SMoE spammed in order to force the mods to close a topic he didn't like. It was one of the many topics that sprang up on the Fourth of July and pointed out the less savory aspects of America and American history. —Alorael, who also doesn't think SMoE has been banned at all yet, temporarily or not. He decided to leave of his own accord. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The scripts seem like C++ to me, but it's probably limited to only a few of the basic libraries. —Alorael, who believes one could create a scenario with a password that requires payment. It would be very difficult to keep that password a secret in the face of any determined scenario pirates, and many people would be highly annoyed, but he can't remember anything in the license against it. Keep in mind that he hasn't read the license very closely or very recently, though. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I have talked to Japanese who say that the bombs did save their country from even greater destruction. They were given a chance to surrender between bombings and got locked in internal arguments for too long, and the second bomb broke the deadlock. I don't know if the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were right or wrong, and historians have argued it endlessly as well. I would like to point out that the occupation of Japan was perhaps the only time America has occupied a foreign country after defeating it in war and had a good outcome. It may have been for the wrong reasons, but America did bring about a more democratic government and a reformed economic system that helped Japan reach the point it's at today. There's a reason they have not had any constitutional amendments, and it's not just lack of precedent. —Alorael, who has just one more thing to point out. Motrax is still gone. Gone is actually King Micah, or more recently Ikari Gendo. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Well, I'm here, but I have no great wisdom to impart. Just try to polite and friendly and ignore the occasional angry person here. —Alorael, who is always happy to see a new face... or name, anyway. Flaming is not appreciated, anyone. This topic, like the other Fourth of July topics, has degenerated past any worth it may have had. —Alorael, who would play taps for the topic if it weren't wildly inappropriate. Instead, he'll just quietly shoot it. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The Fourth of July can and should be used to celebrate the good in our country. And yes, there is good, even when we point out everything wrong with it. However, it's our patriotic duty to fix those wrongs, and that should be part of the Fourth too. —Alorael, who has only two things to add. First, Cinco de Mayo means the 5th of May. Second, while mispellings are inevitable, Good Mourning is a rather humorous oxymoron. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Omlette is nice, level-headed, full of Exile advice, and knows better than to jump on people for differing political or religious views. I think that's something we could all work on, especially right now! —Alorael, who would also like to thank Omlette for advice on what you can poke a straw through and for inspiring some Ayn Rand advice on eggs and his namesake food. And, of course, for hours of nice, smoky, back room plotting. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

1. Jeff is unlikely to program a new window. Besides, being able to see farther would make the game slighly easier. 2. If scenario designers want to have quicker means of transportation, they can add that themselves. It's not difficult. 3. Two weapons will not be included. 4. Maces can be included, but they will still have the graphics of either swords or polearms and be treated accordingly. 5. There won't be nether spells, although some designers may make special 'spells' that may work even better in BoA than they did in BoE. There will be two new spells, though. 6. Designers can make any equipment they wish. If you don't find what you want, you can make your own scenario just to give your party that item. And since the sneaky skills don't really require much dancing around, just manual dexterity, encumberance shouldn't matter much. —Alorael, who doesn't think a wish list will do much good now. First, Jeff is probably significantly into the programming now. Second, he doesn't like our suggestions anyway. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

TM, you of all people should know that Spiderweb does not, in fact, care much about the boards beyond seeing to their continued existence and (cheap) function. —Alorael, who nonetheless agrees that this mess is remarkably disgusting. Anyway, the topic should go on, despite any attempts to end it that would meet the approval of Tom Ridge and that of any number of censors through the ages. Don't worry about driving five miles per hour over the speed limit. Depending on where you live, that could easily be normal. In fact, there are places where that will get people honking at you for being slow! —Alorael, who is a bad influence on young drivers. And from what he's seen of Italy, city driving has plenty of cars, and it's worse than a bad day in New York even on light traffic days. Rome is terrifying. Nope. Karma ratings are permanent. Yet another reason to hate them. —Alorael, who doesn't care about karma at all. He does find any attempts at conversation with oneself laughable. Both together are just hilarious. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Not all scenarios made with BoE were set in Exile, and it's almost certain that not all BoA scenarios will be in Avernum. You get the engine and you're free to do whatever you want. —Alorael, who would in fact say that many of the best scenarios are unrelated to Exile/Avernum. Think of it as an endurance test to weed the conspirators from the smoky bar poseurs. Yes, with a U in there as well. —Alorael, who finds this topic frightening now. If there were any more hints or innuendoes, the conspiracy would be irrevocably compromised and everyone would have to be hydrated immediately. Since one-use special items were present in BoE and used quite often in all three Avernums, it's safe to say that it will be quite easy to remove special items. Actually, regular items are harder, since if BoA works like BoE you'll need to mess with special classes to do that. But yes, item removal of all kinds should be included in the stock scripts of BoA. —Alorael, who expects special items will be far less used by designers since they can no longer be used by players. So those special classes may appear more and more on scripted items. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Drakey decided we could be trusted for a little while on our own. And of course he's still plugged in. He's just not bothering to pay attention. —Alorael, who suspects Drakey actually just wants to be able to lay down the law when he gets back. So no admin means more chaos for him to ruthlessly quash! It was too runny anyway, SMoE. There was no way you could get anyone to believe it would stay in the strainer no matter how many pretzels you had lining the bottom. —Alorael, who supports NaCN anyway. ***MORE SPOILERS, ALTHOUGH THE WARNING IS A BIT LATE IN THIS THREAD!*** Rentar's Keep isn't just the only time Rentar is hostile, it's the only time you can fight her, period. Ghikra has a party death node that goes off if you make anyone hostile. —Alorael, who suspects that Jeff intended to make Rentar immortal but didn't quite do it right. The programming assumes that Rentar-Ihrno is always alive because she's supposed to be. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A scenario translator would have to accomodate for walls between spaces rather than in them, different monsters, weapons, items, and spells. It would have to deal with the disappearance of special node circles, the changed perspective, height, and everything else. —Alorael, who does doubt that such a translator could work in a worthwhile fashion. Besides, new scenarios are better than even good remakes. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You know, I think theft of my signature is covered under the CoC as impersonation. And if it isn't, it darn well should be! —Alorael, who is not Motrax.
