I'd also like to take this opportunity to advise against posting every time someone else has posted in a topic you're interested in, especially if you don't have much more to say. That's called spamming, and we've had enough trouble with that here on Spiderweb. Just give a few more people time to post in between.

—Alorael, who will now return this thread to its regularly scheduled topic. Jeff has maintained adamant opposition to many ideas that everyone supports, like another patch to fix the glaring bugs in BoE.

Red wine is alcoholic, but it is not itself alcohol. If there were a way to move all the alcohol and preserve the taste, many people would be happy to have that pseudo-wine. Most people don't drink wine to get drunk, they drink it because it tastes good and happens to be a fancy drink. Liver damage isn't what they want out of it.

—Alorael, who also doesn't see why suicide, or more specifically requested euthanasia, is illegal. If someone really thinks it's better to die by drinking a thousand needles than to live, they should be able to act upon that belief.

Different games will work to different degrees, and I have seen newer versions of VPC work much better than the one I have. It's not predictable. I can get Starcraft to run fine, but SubTerra wouldn't work at all. VPC isn't made for games, and I saw somewhere that they specifically recommend depending on it for them, but it will work.

—Alorael, who didn't get VPC to run games. That it does at all is just a nice extra. It's also a very expensive program. If you don't need it for other reasons, you probably shouldn't get it for games.

There is not the remotest chance of such a thing existing on a UBB.

Moderators aren't needed to carefully watch every RP, either. If there are rules or at least understood conventions and somebody is breaking them and unwilling to stop, just ask a friendly mod to hit them with a waveblade, bullet, mango, or anything else that comes conveniently to hand. We don't like spammers much either.

—Alorael, who would like to stop the degeneration a bit more and ask TGM to change his name. Profanity is not allowed and you know it.

Chess is not a sport. Chess is a very entertaining and challenging game (depending on your opponent, of course), but it is not a sport.

—Alorael, who would like to point out that ping-pong can be quite a workout if you have to flee vigorously from angry opponents when you beat them and dodge very fast oncoming balls and paddles and such.

There's also Numbers 13:33, which says:

quote:
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
Some argue that that is another reference to the Nephilim. And using Google, you can also see that many argue that the Nephilim are aliens. No idols anywhere that I can see, though.

And now, Exile through the eyes of Throg:

They throw me in Exile. It big cave. I kill many monsters there and get treasure and pretty swords. Sometimes I die but other people bring me back. Then I kill Garzahd after going to the surface. Then I almost kill Rentar-Ihrno but don't. And I get other pretty daggers.

—Alorael, who likes Throg. He just wishes the E3 intro would play right on his computer so he could actually read the text and see what happens instead of getting about one frame out of every three.

Genesis 6:4

There were nephilim in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

—Alorael, who can see nothing particulary furry or feline here. But you never know... this could be another nail in the coffin of vahnatai creationism.

And it came to pass in the 722 year that the members of the Party did go unto the portal, and they were transported the the darkest realms. And they were filled with fear and gave great cries of lamentation. But Tor said unto them: be not afraid, for the Lord will watch over you and I will give you gifts. And unto them did he deliver poorly made equipment, and the Party was thankful and gave great praises unto him. But he cautioned them: Do not worship idols, for such is the way of the sliths and nephils and verily shall they be smitten by the wrath of the Lord on the day of Adventurer Victory.

—Alorael, who interestingly came across the reference to the nephilim in the Bible. It's about two sentences, totally unclear, and not really worth reading. But surely it is a sign that Jeff has been divinely inspired!

Once I get one of those, I will be able to run every Spiderweb game simultaneously! Of course, this is based on the faulty assumptions that someday I will have one. This may or may not be true, but the emphasis must be placed on someday.

—Alorael, who will have to go off and console himself with skribbane since he cannot console himself with Panther or a G5. Oh, the deep, heart-wrenching pain...

I still define the hazy line between membership and newbiehood as knowing others and having others know you or not. You lost your newbiehood the first time Alec or TM called you Daveykins, more or less.

—Alorael, who lost his newbiehood the first time people were sick of the skribbane and sniping jokes. That would be post number... three? Four?

A few more...

X. Good threads that degenerate into stupid arguments.

Y. People who complain when bad threads become interesting arguments.

Z. People who insult or claim to dislike something they actually know nothing about. A possible exception to this is food; some things are just so disgusting in concept that they're not worth trying. Haggis is a case in point.

—Alorael, who is willing to concede that haggis may taste wonderful. That doesn't change the fact that it deserves to be banned by 51 of America's states in order to promote morality, sanity, sanitation, and general happiness and well-being.

I would like to clarify that I do not, in fact, support the illegalization of alcohol. The Prohibition showed the problems of that nicely, as I alluded in my post. Legalization for everything would work well, although I still think many drugs should be regulated so heavily they might as well be illegal.

—Alorael, who would once again like to point out the sheer amount of money that goes to illegal drug trade. If all that were to go to tax-paying companies and sales tax, there would be money that the government would use to support education and healthcare! That's about as likely as legalization in the first place!

1. I'd choose invisibility, of course. The Ring of Gyges tells all.

2. The ability to snipe with perfect accuracy! Or maybe the ability to imbibe endless skribbane! No, wait... I think I'd have to go with the power to prevent stupidity. Yes, an actual aura that prevented people from saying or doing abominably stupid things would be nice and good for everyone.

3. I'd be Intellectual Male Homo sapiens sapiens, of course.

—Alorael, who thinks RoR already has a perfectly good name and power. Wielding a scythe to end bad comma splices as the Grammar Wench is something everyone can aspire to.

It turned into a semi-RP, but the point was mainly to report on the status of Exile and the rest of the world.

—Alorael, who was a correspondant somewhere. The real fun was explaining every so often who everyone was. Sadly, he can no longer remember who was who, though. What was the name of Rentar-Ihrno's counterpart?

The first release of A3 did have the item getting problem with stacking and it wasn't possible to hold down option to look multiple times while using the letter keys to look. I don't know if these were fixed later, but they were semi-problems that were present.

—Alorael, who can handle the two keystrokes instead of one for looking. The stacking glitch really is an inconvenience while trying to fit loot in as compact a space as possible.

I also refuse to place invisible newbies in the human category. Humanity begins for most when they actually come into existence. Of course, some never reach that lofty state (or degenerate state, depending on how you look at it).

—Alorael, who now remembers that he shouldn't expose the secrets of his knowledge like that. Holmes would not be proud of him.

Topic doesn't need locking. I find it quite enlightening.

SM, you are still spamming, and just because a warning, friendly or not, doesn't come from a mod doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention. To eliminate double negatives, maybe now would be a good time to carefully consider your posts and whether or not you can improve them.

—Alorael, who would consider banning a very viable response to a "no" in response to this question. Remember, nobody specifically decided you deserved to return. You're here because of a second chance you got by accident, and it would behoove you not to waste it.

You know, Misc. wasn't anything special in and of itself. It was just fun because of all the oddball topics that appeared. And in case you have been living with your head encased in the wall for the past eight months or so, General has gained all those topics and become identical to Misc. in most ways.

—Alorael, who at first found General to be even better because the worst of the topics from Misc. didn't make the transfer. Looks like the garbage is making a comeback, though. Maybe General should be closed and everything should start over on Tech Support.

While Alec stated it a bit differently than I would, I have to agree. I've been out and checking Spiderweb only briefly and from a dialup connection, and I happened to notice long loading times on long topics containing many posts by the same people saying absolutely nothing.

—Alorael, who would like to entreat everyone to remember the dialup users. Every post makes a difference, and it's a pretty bad difference if the entire contents of the post is "Hahaha I win!"

Rest assured, TM will have five scenarios completed in the first three hours. Whether they're crap or not... Well, not crap, precisely. Just incomprehensible.

—Alorael, who can hope that the first BoA will not contain the word Echoes. It may be a vain hope, but he will maintain it proudly anyway.

Marijuana should be legalized. It's only slightly worse than smoking in general, and it would probably be better with quality control. It's far less dangerous than alcohol, which definitely should be illegal and would be if it weren't for several thousand years of support for drinking.

No, that picture is not me, although it could be. Well, I actually really look nothing at all like that, but with a little cosmetic work I could try to match that.

—Alorael, who will cheerfully acknowledge that he has no life and no particular desire to gain one, either. He's heard that they take far too much work.
