Drakey had to be member #7 so he could be the same on the IB and UBB. The Great Potato exists for reasons unknown to us, but probably perfectly clear in the minds of little boys everywhere. Especially little vahnatai boys.

—Alorael, who doesn't see anything wrong with custom titles, as long as they're deserved, not demanded. Asking for them constantly is a good way to end up with the very special title of Canned.

What feature that the Avernum series lacked would you most like to see in BoA? in Blades of Avernum

Depending on how variables in the new script system work, genders may be possible. The only way I can envision it working would be with the party leader's information being entered by the player at the beginning of each scenario, but at least that's something.

—Alorael, who is afraid of people who already have plans for scenarios to be made with a program that does not yet exist and that use features that may not be included. And the title is rather worrisome as well, right down to the question mark. But still, it's never too early to start planning so you don't end up with plot writer's block like certain others...

He did save it in printed form, and he probably did have only one copy. I also very much doubt that he mailed it to Ed Lemur, but stranger things have happened.

—Alorael, who isn't sure why Drakey didn't save the posts in a text file. Perhaps it seemed like too much inconvenience at the time, when nobody knew the BEEP would become a nostalgic piece of Spiderweb history.

Powergaming? in General

Powergaming, or RP powergaming in this case, is using a very powerful character and being unbeatable and solving all the problems. It may be satisfying for you, but it ruins the RP for everyone who can't snap their fingers and cause mass species extinctions.

—Alorael, who begs to differ. Homeland and Ocean Bound don't deserve forums because they deservedly have very few players. Lost Souls actually is a good game, although it could be improved by a level editor and some form of multiplayer.

+ People who smoke and then blow or cough in my face.

+ Styrofoam. No, this one doesn't really make sense, but I hate the stuff.

+ People like me. Really, if I weren't me, I think I'd strangle myself and call it a service to humanity.

+ People who can't even acknowledge that they're doing anything wrong (or irritating), let alone try to fix the problem.

—Alorael, who supposes this last one doesn't count. It's not really a pet peeve, since it bothers just about everyone. It even bothers the perpetrator of the wrong or irritating act when everyone reacts to it.

June 20, 1949. I believe that makes me the oldest, or at least somewhere high on the list. And in case you missed it the first few times, I live in Alaska.

—Alorael, who believes this birthday makes him a Gemini and one day away from being a Cancer. Other than that, he has no idea what he is.7

I'm not involved in the NSI any more, but even I can see why everyone is irritated at you just by taking a quick look at threads lying around.

Zephyr, if you'd like to get your act together and post well, by all means do so. But announcements to that effect are meaningless. Instead of checking off what you will do, please either do it or don't post. You're still spamming.

—Alorael, who would also like to say that Canned, formerly SM, is not the best source of advice on posting. He was banned for spam months ago. Rapid posting in one thread, useful or not, is generally frowned upon.

Actually, I very much doubt anyone can help you. Nobody knows how to use the Stuff Done Flags.

—Alorael, who advises leaving them alone. If there's a particular reason you want to use them, there may be a workaround. Otherwise, leave them alone.

Well, there are thre categories of people. The first is people who I would feel no guilt about eating. The second is people over whom I would feel only moderate guilt after killing them in a fit of insane rage after decades on this island. The third group is people towards whom I would probably not have insane rages.

—Alorael, who is sure those who know him can guess who fits in which category. And if you're not sure, just assume that you personally would go under the heading of lunch.

Realmz is not worth the price unless some scenario I didn't bother to play, much less register, is actually good. From what I've seen, it's doubtful.

—Alorael, who does like a few of the scenarios created with Divinity. Still, they're not worth registering, and anyone who bothers to figure out Divinity has obviously never seen BoE.

Exile vs. Avernum in General

Yes, you will have to start over and yes, you might have some trouble adapting to the different interface and slightly different combat, especially the lack of area spells and proliferation of arrow spells. Since the plots are the same in Exile and Avernum, try them both and decide which system you like more.

—Alorael, who prefers Avernum for a variety of reasons. But that has been argued to death multiple times, so he'll leave it at that. Others prefer Exile, though. The boards are probably evenly split between Exile and Avernum lovers.

I remember the myth books. They fell far short of Discworld in humor. They fell short even of most bad humor fantasy.

—Alorael, who definitely likes Pratchett and who thought HGttG was funny but impossible to follow. He'd like to add Carl Hiaasen to the list, though. He's not a fantasy writer, but he has a lovely way of writing with political cynicism.

VWM, I don't care how many beings start with D. A D is an ancient dragon, and a d is a baby to mature dragon. After all my deaths, I ought to know.

And I have led my Vanilla Angband @ to victory over the great purple P. I cheated death like I was supposed to be able to reload, but I did it.

—Alorael, who finds the Matrix code interesting in that it isn't ASCII. It isn't binary, either. It isn't anything, since it apparently consists of strange, vaguely asian characters that mean absolutely nothing. Either coding advanced greatly, or Neo just hallucinates and gets lucky.

I can handle north being any direction as long as it has the decency to pick one direction and stick with it.

Or each sword could count as an individual attack, in which case the damage cap would effectively be raised to 400 and everyone would use two waveblades (or whatever overpowered weapons appear in Blades).

—Alorael, who thinks the balance on combat has already suffered from A2 to A3. There's still no need to make it even worse in BoA.

Baldur's Gate isn't really 3D anyway. While I don't see why a 3D game couldn't be turn-based, there are other problems. Foremost among those is Jeff. He makes the games by himself, for the most part. Paying for 3D graphics would not only make the games more expensive, but it would take more of them out of Jeff's hands. I'd guess that he wouldn't like that.

—Alorael, who is also a terrible navigator in 3D games. If north isn't up, he's lost. He gets enough of that in the real world without spending time wandering aimlessly to have fun.

Realmz has gotten worse and worse. Each update or added feature was slapped on haphazardly, resulting in numerous problems. I have played Realmz from version 4-ish to the end, and it only got more unstable and more buggy in most ways.

—Alorael, who does think that some of the third-party scenarios looked promising. Unfortunately, they're also almost invariably expensive, and the unbalanced Realmz engine just isn't worth it.

Also keep in mind that when you tell them about your personality, they can spit out what you said in different words and be correct. If you say that you're intuitive in response to questions, they can say with some certainty that you will act intuitively in similar circumstances.

—Alorael, who still thinks the personality categories are often accurate in a very general way. Introversion and extroversion are often the most immediately noticeable traits, but you can often guess what people will come out as on the tests if you know them well.

Be warned that Spiderweb has a limited Belgian population. It has a large French-speaking population, but many of those people speak French in a manner that is painful to read.

—Alorael, who does not speak French and who does not wish to join boards where he cannot easily communicate. Just be glad he resisted the urge to show up and spam in Spanish for variety.
