I believe it will also be possible to give individual monsters special AI and scripts. But I'd say that combat is always boring. The fun is in figuring out the tactics to use and being right (or horribly wrong).

—Alorael, who expects lots of tactical fun from BoA. He still wants an amazing gauntlet of Dark Wyrms on raised platforms. And intelligent spellcasters will be terrifying.

This thread is not appropriate material for General. It is not related to Spiderweb.

The free AOL CD's are indestructible. Believe me, I have tried. They snap back from any warped position. They are shatterproof. And even if you scratch the CD surface and doodle with a ballpoint pen, your computer will still be able to read it.

—Alorael, who was eventually forced to set the CD on fire with the help of lighter fluid. He then dropped the flaming thing down a deep hole and covered it. Ominous noises can still be heard.

Be careful what you say. Too much enjoyment and we'll all see how much fun it is to have our inboxes infested with geek pr0n spam.

—Alorael, who could also point out a number of other sites that cater to interesting tastes. But he won't. Instead, he'll resist the urge to lock the topic for containing pornography.

I adjust my Angband fonts, thank you, and I can assure you that my @ is every bit as luscious as yours. And I'm not twisted at all, it's a flat squiggly pattern.

—Alorael, whose @ presents itself very well. Actually, usually it presents itself by madly butchering everything, but that's not such a bad introduction when you think about it...

I'm not angry at all! I just can't let my adoring followers down by not giving the standard angry threats. Don't take it personally.

—Alorael, who will quietly apologize for the inconvenience. Very quietly, though, or his fans will be upset again, and nobody wants that.

Earlier today I had problems with speed whenever I tried to post. When I wasn't posting, everything was fine.

I don't think Jeff wants to pay for advertising in magazines, and it's up to the editors to decide whether they want to mention Spiderweb's games as really good shareware.

—Alorael, who for reasons unclear to him has stopped getting the CD with the magazine. If he were still getting it, though, he'd expect GF2 to appear in a month or two. MacAddict always lags a bit behind on shareware.

I believe Jeff has already said somewhere that the engine, including the combat, is the same as A3.

—Alorael, who also expects that several designers will tweak numbers in order to get the damage levels back down to levels that aren't made meaningless by the cap.

I am very sorry for expressing the wrong form of humor, or lack thereof. I'll go join the midget, shall I?

—Alorael, who would prefer not to. But hey, sometimes you just have to go with others' party plans.

You could always ask if you see an unfamiliar abbreviation. You can also usually pick it up from context, or just be wildly wrong and give the rest of us a good laugh.

—Alorael, who wasn't supposed to say that. It's less funny if you see it coming.

With some custom graphics, it shouldn't be too hard. I don't know how the height will work, though, so don't count on it.

—Alorael, who would rather count the number of steps taken up the staircase and use them to calculate just how much damage is dealt when you step off. Ascending infinitely can be hazardous.

The point of Paranoia isn't the game. The point is either learning self-control and not throttling your DM if you're a player, or watching the players turn interesting colors as they struggle not to throttle you if you're the DM yourself.

—Alorael, who would say that the nice thing about computer RPG's is that they're dependable. A pencil and paper game can be much better, but it can also be much, much worse. You think Diablo is a boring hackfest? Try it when each hit takes a handful of dice and those mind-twisting calculations using variables that were banned by international treaty.

Yeah! Party on with them dead links! Congrats on having 3000 posts and more! Some orifices aren't meant to be treated that way, especially not with wet rubber bands!

—Alorael, who is very disappointed. He just got back from Amsterdam and he missed all the fun. There's no place for pedestrians like the red light district, especially when everyone is high and/or TM, which is pretty much synonymous.

Most of my names come from mashing the keyboard and inserting/removing vowels as necessary now. I used to actually think about them, but I stopped. The only name I use regularly is Ta-Ssst for any slith.

—Alorael, who has most recently had far to much fun with bad puns as names. Geneforge shapers leave far too much room for those.

I believe you can use the Orb of Thralni to reach Kneece from Bigail. If you want to get the Orb legitimately and you haven't already, you'll have a long wait (day 100-some). If you can't stand it, add the Orb with the character editor. It's one of the easily available artifacts.

—Alorael, who believes reset towns should restore Olga to her happy living state. It also restores everything and everyone else. Use with care.

Goodbye on General, Sir David. I'll see you elsewhere on Spiderweb, I guess... And if you meant a hiatus from all of Spiderweb, then I guess I won't see you elsewhere for a while, but after that I will.

—Alorael, who won't be seeing anyone for a week, as he'll be away. So to everyone, a very brief farewell that co-opts an existing topic instead of creating a new one.

Other games have eventually been given release months without fanfare, although the month has sometimes changed, also without any comment. So you probably won't miss a hint if you don't read the posts (the date would be on Spidweb's main page), and there may be a hint to miss.

—Alorael, who suspects that Jeff is working harder at porting GF2 than he is at coding BoA.

Hey, the various philias aren't always sexual attraction. There's also hemophilia (or haemophilia, depending on which side of the Atlantic you reside on) and hydrophilia. None of them are really wonderful things, but it could be worse.

—Alorael, who isn't sure BtI or Thuryl got such great deals in the title department either. Of course, he's not sure what they got, period, so that may be a mistaken impression.

Does everyone understand the principles behind, say, transmission of signals via radio waves? No, not everyone does, but everyone still listens to music, or news, or something.

Do you understand the principles behind demon summoning? No, you don't. But that doesn't mean there aren't any. Judging by the number of magic laboratories in Exile, there are plenty of logical rules that can be determined and used (or bent).

—Alorael, who would say that magic is hard to generalize about since it doesn't exist. You can give it any rules or lack thereof you'd like. But if someone shows you a brand new invention like nothing ever made before, it might as well be magic for all you can figure it out.

Blame Stareye or thank Stareye. Your choice. Since he's into the dream shattering and such now, I'd go with the thanking, personally.

—Alorael, who isn't quite sure why that one appeared. However, it is a landmark custom title by public request.
