I have never reserved any characters, just my exclusive right to use the ever-changing signature. Regardless of dash type or number, it's mine. My PRECIOUS! —Alorael, who would like to apologize to the nonexistent impersonator who is apparently not on these boards for the unnecessary accusation. Or something. 1. I'd give it back. I'd also take a 95% commission for money retrieval services, but that's neither here nor there. 2. I'd like to live in a cave in a volcanic mountain on an island in an arctic climate. Failling that, I'd take a mountain. 3. I can't say I've been in many fights lately, but I'm told I'm extremely offensive on a regular basis, and I'm usually defensive about it. Take your pick. —Alorael, who suspects that most people are associated with water, what with that comprising the vast majority of the human body and all. Air's another big one. Flaming people, on the other hand, are rather uncommon. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I am still a mod. I'm a bit scarce, since I'm traveling again, but I'm still around once in a while to lock topics without explanation. I don't think any explanation has been given for locking a topic in a very long time. Despite what the CoC says, mods are chosen mostly because they are trusted to make good decisions on when to lock topics, so unless there's a problem no more needs to be said about it. —Alorael, who would say a better solution than to add to the bureaucratic mess would be to take out the requirement. If a problem arises, by all means report it to all the moderators with the alert button and the matter will be discussed on the Mod Board. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The impersonator is breaking the Code of Conduct. Whoever you are, please stop. —Alorael, who as a further and only slightly more related aside can add that ninjitsu wasn't only a martial art. It also included training in all kinds of things that spies might need, including everything from disguises to weather-prediction. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The War of the Flowers - Tad Williams. I like his books a lot, although there's very little similarity among them in terms of plot material. —Alorael, who was also highly impressed by the fact that he runs another UBB where many members have over ten thousand posts and one has over 25,000. There's also a fourteen page topic in which only one member posted... Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Why use LSD when lead-containing paints are so much more common? That way breathing in water makes you high as you drown. —Alorael, who doesn't drink water anyway. But you all should know that by now. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I have no idea. Out of curiousity I did a quick Google search with various terms. I came up with a number of hits, some of which are grounds for execution. I also found RoR's, I think, although it wasn't under any familiar moniker of hers. —Alorael, who advises any permutation of the terms "Exile," "Avernum," "fanfiction," "fanfic," or anything else that comes to mind. You'll find stuff sooner or later. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A minute with Google can turn up fascinating material. Most of it is also abominable, but it is fanfiction and it is Exile related. —Alorael, who suspects that TM and KM have just violated the CoC by even referring to their work. They may even be violating international treaties. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

We're all after you, ex-VWM. It's yet another Spiderweb conspiracy. —Alorael, who suspects that Drakey's use of the abbreviation VWM prompted PantherShadow. For all you know, he didn't even know that VWM referred to you! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The pilot screamed so loudly that he destabilized the topic. Sadly, it was destroyed utterly. There were no survivors. —Alorael, who can vouch for that personally. If there are any, they are welcome to meet sniping. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Road construction is a funny thing. The more a road is used and the more extreme the temperatures get, the more work it takes to keep the road in good shape. But if a road gets a lot of traffic, there's no good time for repairs. New York City has some stunning examples of what happens to roads that are in such constant use that they haven't been touched since the invention of the wheel. —Alorael, who has had fun listening to weather forecasts. Somehow the weather has managed to be completely opposite to all predictions every day for the past week or so. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Exile wasn't really that original of an idea, although it was executed well. Avernum was the same thing, only with a new engine. The vote is split over that one. Geneforge actually isn't like most other games, but I dislike the engine. The solution is to make more historical fantasy games like Nethergate, obviously! —Alorael, who can't remember the interview that gives Jeff's rationale for game design, but it's out there somewhere. Basically, he wants to make a living, so when an idea sells he sticks with it. He said that a strategy game might be fun to make, but it's an unnecessary financial risk (look at GC!). What you see is proof that one should proofread. Otherwise you too may find yourself making a BoE/A scenario with a wang of summoning, and that would not be a good thing. —Alorael, who doesn't proofread, actually. But at least he knows he shouldd! I don't think Jeff is big on collaboration, I don't think he'd want to publish under Ambrosia when he has his own company, and I most emphatically do not think Geneforge is Sci-fi. It's still fantasy, just not traditional fantasy. —Alorael, who would be willing to try any Spiderweb game no matter who else worked on it. But New Centurions isn't even a new game. It's just Realmz with a new title and a new theme. Fantasoft deserves to die for self-plagiarism. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You know, all the AOL CD's could be collected, sharpened, and used on a raid against AOL headquarters. Misc. was a lot like General is now, only there was even more garbage. At least we don't have intentionally pointless polls. Not many of them, anyway. —Alorael, who does think Misc. was a time of more intelligence, mostly because General made sense as General, not a sort of weird Misc. substitute with occasional hiccoughs of reversion to sanity.
