Never mind, I just jumped into the General Forum. I think I will stick will the Exile Boards. I haven't been here long enough to know what you mean by @ or an ASCII game or letters. I'll just stick to Exile. But, you told me to move my topic to this place. Why bother though. I don't get any comments on mine and everyone has lost me a long time ago. I beeter stick to what I do know. And that is the Exile games. Bye. -------------------- Mrs. Peacock: "Everything all right?" Colonel Mustard: "Yep. Two Corpses. Everything's fine." Don't be frightened. It's Spiderweb, where you have to leave your sanity at the door. —Alorael, who believes (and hopes) that the @'s are in reference to various rogue-like games. Those are just birds! True balrgos are U's. Ancient balrogs are &'s! —Alorael, who would be more intimidated by a room full of nether hounds. Or a purple capital P. That's always bad news. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Back off-topic for one post, all those ASCII games have a different way to mark monsters, so d can be a dog and a lesser dragon in two games. Imagine it: "Oh, hi, cute doggie....." *RRRROOOAARR* and small purple j's send me running, while a grey & causes me not to run, but to restart the game... Yeah, I was talking about Moria286 and D is an ancient dragon. d is a young or mature dragon. And B is THE balrog in that game, I just put 2 for emphasis. -------------------- Tip of the Day: #13 Stand clear the closing door. That's treason. I believe I remember reading on TB's site (TB = Thomas Biskup, the creator of ADOM) that the engine is largely based on something he called Q'Hack, which is probably the engine used in the Hack-series. But that's just my faded memory and inane reasoning babbling away here, so don't necessary believe it. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" There are three types of roguelike. All of them originally came, obviously, from Rogue. Rogue begat Moria and Hack. Moria begat Angband. Angband begat many children. Hack begat Nethack. Nethack begat many children, including ADoM. ADoM is one of the third type of roguelike, which is an overland adventure (unlike Hack, which is a limited dungeon crawl, and Angband, which is an unlimited dungeon crawl). However, the whole line of games like ADoM (Omega is another) did originally inherit their play mechanics from Hack, not Angband. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |
