You can hold off on worrying until you start breaking into hotels at night, taking all the bibles out, and replacing "nephilim" with "sliths" to show the world which race is better. —Alorael, who only worries himself when he hears others using what he considers Spidwebisms or Despisms. There's nothing like hearing someone using Jagot to make you wonder just how far Desperance's influence reaches. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

In your case, TM, I'd say that makes you aberrant and probably criminal. —Alorael, who does not mean this as a slur against the autosexual community. He means this as a slur against TM. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I view assisted suicide as an extreme medical procedure. It shouldn't be given lightly, or when there is other treatment for the causes that make someone wish to die, but in some cases the treatments are ineffective or worse than a quick, painless death. I'd be happy if all suicides were assisted, or at least medically facilitated. If you want to die, your death should be as quick and pleasant as medicine can make it. —Alorael, who thinks he would go for a painkiller overdose. He doesn't have the courage for a violent death even if it would be too quick to hurt. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Again, the failure of representative democracy is shown. Charisma counts for much more than skill at governing, so of course Ahnold won. He has all the name recognition, all the accent recognition, and an impressive assortment of muscles. —Alorael, who expects another recall in a few months. And some more after that. Once a precedent has been set, politicians will take great pleasure in using it. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

34. Anyone writing Aloreal had better not expect a happy response from me. 35. No matter how bad things get, at least you know you're not locked in a small room with many GIFTS. 36. 21. In list topics, counting is optional. 22. No matter what you post, you're going to have angry people calling for its death and possible yours along with it. —Alorael, who ought to compile a list of every entry from every topic like this ever created on Spiderweb. And maybe a list of the number of times he has used the word ever. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I joined the old Ikonboard slightly more than three and a half years ago, posted for a short time, vanished for months, and reappeared. Since then I've been around and posting frantically. —Alorael, who notices that there haven't been many memories yet, just times and complaints. How about some nostalgia about the good old days of Señor Parapluie? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A brief history of Spiderweb: March 2001: The first Spiderweb forums, on Ikonboard, are created. I believe this was on the 23rd, but I'm not sure. October 2001: Ikonboard replaced with this lovely UBB you see now. A few people registered before the public opening, though. October 2002: The Misc. forum, which was supposed to separate the random babble from the Spiderweb related topics on General, was closed for having too much spam. General promptly took most of the junk. October 2003: Something eventful will happen. Just you wait... —Alorael, who will hope for Misc's re-opening. Hey, awaiting Second Comings is a strong tradition! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

1. I send messages in reply to messages received. Usually much later, since I don't check my profile very often. I really should set email notification. 2. My lawyers told me not to talk about that. 3. I am a member! Oh, who am I kidding? They said my forehead wasn't large enough to join. 4. This is rather pointless, but it's not quite spam. 5. Classical and some jazz. —Alorael, who supports Mensa. Having that top 2% easily identifiable will be very handy when the revolution comes. Actually, I think Jeff just put that in with the hints because it's the kind of good advice your mother may have given you over and over and over. Putting that in with tips about intelligence and spell use fits his sense of humor. —Alorael, who also supposes it could be a reference to Cathrac's Eye, although the game is still fun after you lose it. I don't even mind someone who posts in every topic as long as they're not making every other post and as long as all their posts actually say something. —Alorael, who is a fine one to talk. Maybe that was a typo and he meant 1500? I don't think more than 95% of the board's members joined late. You could also measure lateness by specific board events, like the closing of Misc. Incidentally, that was almost exactly a year ago... —Alorael, who really thinks the fairest measurement is how well various members can reminisce nostalgically about the good old days. What "good" and "old" mean can be left to individual discretion. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Indeed. The recognition of "sir" as an insult is nice, and of course everyone knows better than to throw around terms like "aggregation of lumber" without really meaning it. Yes, we have seen a new phrase from its founding event to recognized use. Linguists should now swoon. —Alorael, who thinks that angry posting is inevitable. However, when profanity is used heavily rationality and coherence go out the window. And those profanities seem to offend people more than non-profane insults do. So certain words are forbidden while anger is expressed in more interesting and creative ways. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

On the recent visitors list, unregistered viewers are called wanderers. I presume Lord Loony is asking how many people have lurked around, unregistered, for a while before deciding to create an account. —Alorael, who would also like to know how many people decided to be invisible newbies for a while before posting. That would be Pac-man or one of the countless variations thereof. You can still see it around today in various arcades, and I have even had the dubious pleasure of playing a high-tech, 3D, and ultimately less simply entertaining version. —Alorael, who will give some watercress to anyone who can name all the Pac-man ghosts. In Avernum 3 v1.0, the outdoor section that should have been Northeastern Upper Avernum was named Northeastern Upper Exile by mistake. If this trend was continued farther down in Avernum, there would be Northeastern Exile instead of Northeastern Avernum as well. And since places can't just vanish, Avernum must have been transported to Exile. Thus, a formerly Exile-dwelling dragon might find himself in Northeastern Avernum despite being a resident of the earlier trilogy. QED. —Alorael, who would really like to accuse a conspiracy of being behind this, except it's too far-fetched even for him. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |
