Whats the best creature you'd wanna ride a BoA game as transport 2 in General | |

Well, there are different kinds of transportation. I still think that you could ride all kinds of humanoids and be transported. And no matter how you interpret the word, I still think slimes are an intriguing possibility. Just think of the advantage riding an Alien Slime would give you in battle and other endeavors! —Alorael, who would rather not here any more discussion of the Alien Slime, thank you. Everyone can think of the possibilities on their own or be blissfully ignorant. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Now that I think about it, slimes are also rather intriguing possibilities no matter how you look at the question. —Alorael, who also likes the color variety. You can have a slime for every occasion, also in multiple senses! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I sometimes read them in my email, decide not to bother responding, and never read the message on Spiderweb. There's no way to see that I have read, but I have. —Alorael, who often actually hasn't. A good number of Spiderweb emails are unfortunate casualties in his ceaseless losing war against the spam filling his inbox. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

All in favor of gathering a virtual lynch mob and stringing up Mindspark's account, post aye! He's a danger to our way of life and probably from a rogue nation like New England. —Alorael, who actually would rather not witness a stream of one-word posts. So you can just say aye and the rest of us will guess. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Plateaus: They appeared in the Avernum games. I'm sure they'll be possible in BoA. Bridges: I think they would be great too, but I don't think they'll be possible. That would require each height to be treated as a separate tile instead of simply moving graphics. Towns: That's a given. —Alorael, who supposes scripts could be use to make fake bridges. Just set scripts to the spaces adjacent to the bridge that either change it to a real bridge or just a graphic of a bridge that you go under. On Spiderweb, we treat all things with equal reverence. You can't say we're not fair. —Alorael, who supposes some things may be snubbed a bit. Little things like anything conservative, moderate, or not quite as far left as the rest of the boards. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

No, actually I prefer watching people steal incompetently. It makes me feel superior, and I need all the small ego boosts I can get. —Alorael, who will have you all know that it takes all of his willpower not to edit those signatures humiliatingly. After all, since he has patented the ever-changing signature, it should be his property anyway. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It probably won't be possible to change the graphics of the abilities themselves, though. Stoning will look like stoning whether it comes from a basilisk or the slooba-coated spears of the forgotten jungle's oblong defenders. —Alorael, who doesn't see what's wrong with archetypes. Everything you could possibly want in your scenarios has been included in the Avernum games. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Titles are a lot like carrots and sticks. They must be used judiciously in order to improve the boards. Or to entertain Drakefyre. —Alorael, who now thinks it's a good thing he hasn't ever done anything to earn a title. Then Drakey might feel torn about not giving a title. As it is, it's a happy wait for the great day of His Postliness. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

At one point Alec wanted to be made temporary admin while Drakey was away. A while after that, he was temporarily banned by Linda. Then he was back to being a veteran. Drakey decided to string all his titles together, and nobody argues with someone who can wreak havoc on your account if you disagree. —Alorael, who will now hide from Drakey's wrath before the havoc is wreaked on his account. Probably T. Some people would object to the animated violence (animated used very loosely), mild language, and twisted humor. —Alorael, who also thinks that the concept of shareware dangerously opposes big business, so it must be supressed. It is certainly not for everyone! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It meets the 5-7-5 rule. Actually, haiku in Japanese are quite a bit different, often part of larger poems, and have some content guidelines. But here in the US of A, we can do haiku our own way and the Japanese out to be happy we keep the syllables right! —Alorael, who assures all doubters that his name has only 3 syllables and that hasn't has two despite the single vowel. On Spiderweb there are no orcs They are not even common as sporks. But if you want some epic verse I'll give you a subject, I'm not averse For if you do not cease to copy Your mortal coil shall be rather floppy. You see, I have been here quite some time To me, my sig's worth more'n a dime. Now you have come and stolen it And I'm about to pitch a fit. In otherwords, I ask, please stop Or I will smack you with a mop. —Alorael, who is semi-serious about this. He has lived through enough complaints about his idiosyncrasies to have a proprietary air towards them. It would be polite to stop imitating. To elaborate a bit... I believe you can set it to not go hostile when you kill certain people, but theft will always result in hostility. That hostility can probably be shared via scripts, but it does not go beyond the one town by default. —Alorael, who can't be sure how much of the Avernum stuff will be included in BoA. E3, for example, had party death nodes that triggered when the town became hostile in Fort Emergence, Ghikra, and Blackcrag, but there was no way to do that in BoE. You can create whatever new cities, continents, or worlds you'd like for your scenarios. They just won't be recognized as part of the "official" Avernum world. You can attach custom scripts to items, so if you can script super psionics, you can have them. —Alorael, who thinks that in many ways entirely new worlds for scenarios are best. They give you much more flexibility in terms of background story. Of course, the flipside is that you have to explain it in much more detail. Jeff has already said that he will not make a spell editor, per se. Scripts and abilities should make an adequate substitute in many cases. There will not be an online version of Avernum for many reasons. This has been discussed into the ground before. Try searching for older topics on the subject. —Alorael, who asks that you go easy on the punctuation. One question mark is sufficient. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A second person shooter would be viewed through the eyes of your enemies. It would certainly make aiming easy, but navigation would be a real pain. —Alorael, who has to say that some of EV's appeal comes from the background. It's not plot, precisely, but someone taking the time to work out a reasonable explanation for importing and exporting kelp really does make a difference in a game. Diablo II is the great-grandchild of Rogue, Nethack, and Angband. And you know what? Aside from online multiplayer, I prefer the ancient ASCII games. —Alorael, who must admit that he's influenced by the lack of loading times, and the fact that he cheats death outrageously. Angband without cheating in the beginning is Angband with an unhealthy dose of frustration. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

That's why we don't have that rule. But it's just as bad to tell other people that they have volunteered for the suicidal assault on Castle Impregnable and handed over all their weaponry to your character. —Alorael, who would like to add Commandment XI: Thou shalt not force the plot in directions that others have clearly rejected, no matter how nicely you planned it. You do not own the RP. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |
