The easy solution is just to make two weapons, one ranged and one melee. Call them gun and bayonet. You could even run a recurring script to check that no character is using one without the other, although most guns can be used without bayonets and one could theoretically use a bayonet alone as an awkward knife.

—Alorael, who would otherwise advise a recurring script checking that if one is wielded, so is the other. Annoying, but it will probably work.

The people have a voice in locking topics. Let's hear it for popular moderation! For future reference, the yaoi really isn't necessary, though. A simple gigantic picture of a mango will get the message across quite nicely.

—Alorael, whose 'witticisms' really aren't witty. They are snide, though, and a lot of fun for the two or three seconds it takes to write them.

My signature will stand, I suppose. There's only so much fixing I can do before it becomes equally humiliating.

—Alorael, who was also named Skribbane Addict for a good, oh, three or four hours. Apparently Spiderweb was not ready to handle a name change.

What are some of your favorite movies? in General

Movies and books are really suited to very different stories. Action books are usually terrible, because action in text doesn't have quite the same impact as clashing swords, fiery explosions, and sudden gunfire that you can see and hear. On the other hand, a book can give more detail and more view into the minds of characters.

Most movies based on books are bad. Some are good, but I rarely like them as much as the book no matter which order I read them in. Books written based on movies are also almost always terrible. The two media are simply too different.

—Alorael, who doesn't see anything wrong with adapting a book to be a movie, or vice versa. In most cases the adaptation has to be heavy, and in the end the meaning and tone are often completely changed. If the director/author is not very good, the result is a wreck.

It's been years since I've played, but my strategy was to start work on the ship immediately, and always have just enough wood to keep the work going. The rest of my people farmed in the maximum group size (ten, if I recall correctly). You'll only need three or four farm plots at once, and don't put roads over them until they no longer grow at all after planting.

—Alorael, who must say he didn't think the game was particularly enthralling. All the levels are much the same. Chop wood. Plant food. Build ship. Next!

I'm not much of a movie person. I don't know if I've even seen enough to have favorites. Adaptation is a good one to watch five times and still not understand, though. It's not a really lovable movie, but it is strikingly bizarre.

—Alorael, who would also like to give a nod to The Usual Suspects for being a brain-twister. Any movie you can't watch twice isn't worth watching once.

It's a good thing our resident wolf is good at his job, or we'd all be buried under the masses of invisible newbies. Let us all take a moment from our busy lives to thank him.

Oh, and toss him a newbie. He's probably still hungry.

—Alorael, who is unaware of any capitalization in Hebrew. There are final letters, which is something like capitalization in reverse (well, not really like that at all, but...), there are different writing styles, but there are no capitals. Even punctuation is a modern addition.

I'm a vegetarian when it comes to sushi. I've eaten several sushis with raw fish, and I just don't like it as much as a good cucumber.

—Alorael, who isn't much of a pizza man at all. If he were going to eat one, it would be covered with veggies. If it has to be a pizza, at least it can masquerade as an odd salad...

I'm a decent writer, contrary to all evidence, and I can play recorder fairly well (no laughing!). I've won a handful of awards for black and white photography, but I haven't done any darkroom work recently.

My abilities in other visual and performing arts are, to put it nicely, probably able to be legally termed assault.

—Alorael, who has been paid to stop singing. That is quite an accomplishment if you look at it in the right light.

Actually, I believe virtually all the Iraqis besides the Saddam loyalists, who are a tiny minority, are very grateful that America came in and ousted him. That doesn't mean they still want us there, but they're not angry that we moved in in the first place.

Of course, there are only a few dozen other countries with hated dictators in the world. Is it our duty, or even our right, to remove all of them?

—Alorael, who was just speaking to a journalist who was in Iraq earlier today. He had interesting perspectives from talking to different levels of the military and Iraqi civilians. He also unfailingly refused to give any personal opinions.

Saddam was an evil man and a terrible ruler, no question about it. Bush may be misguided and mistaken, but he's not deliberately evil and he doesn't advocate military action against his own people. Trying to equate the two is ridiculous knee-jerk Bush bashing.

That said, I don't think Saddam's capture will change very much. It will relieve a few of the worried Iraqis and make Bush look more competent, but that's all. Saddam hasn't had any significance since he disappeared months ago. There will still be Americans killed there and the country will still be a mess for the foreseeable future.

—Alorael, who would like to point out that most evil dictators aren't sitting on vast quantities of oil. They're also not linked to Al-Qaeda in the public mind, which makes stirring up fervor for war more difficult.

Slings may appear again. They weren't in Exile, but they were in BoE. Nethergate had slings, so it can't require much programming.

You can make custom graphics for items, but not for the missiles. Rocks look something like bullets anyway.

—Alorael, who doesn't think it would be too hard to make a new misile weapon even without slings. Just give a throwing weapon the "returning" ability (if you can), change the graphic, and voila.

You could have four games. One if you have only humans, one if you have at least one slith, one if you have at least one nephil, and one if you have at least one of each.

—Alorael, who bases this on the assumption that you can't check for the presence of humans, only the absence of other races.
