WHOSE EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????? in Blades of Avernum

I've been excited. I've even been EXCITED!!! But I can't say I've ever been EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, especially enough to be confident in saying so when faced with seven question marks.

—Alorael, who has more often been excited, or on rarer occasions excited

I'm on a low boil now. When it's actually available I'll bubble over.

—Alorael, who can't say he's ever been EXCITED in all capital letters with a large quantity of redundant punctuation. That's a feeling he's not sure he ever wants to have, either.

Now there are many games with good music. I like a bunch of the mentioned Final Fantasy songs and the Nethergate intro, and others.

—Alorael, who would also like to mention the first time he heard good music in a game. That would be in Loom, and not just because they used parts of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. It was also the last time he heard good music for quite a while.

You can also start or join RP's on some of the boards associated with Spiderweb. I'll plug Polaris here, but there are others as well.

—Alorael, who would like to put this in the proper perspective. RP's are, as far as Spiderweb is concerned, spam. They have no relevance to the games or the company. Having three (or two) is a luxury.

Graphics or a good story? in General
Law Bringer

Graphics are not important to me. As long as they don't ruin the ambience, I really don't care. I'd rather have ASCII than stick-figures in a serious game, personally.

In a game that is supposed to have a plot, plot is everything. In games that really don't need a plot, I've sometimes been annoyed by weak bits of plot cropping up unexpectedly and ruining my fun. RPG's, of course, are always in the former category, while Tetris and clones had better always fall under the latter.

—Alorael, who has a certain gameplay threshold. No matter how good the plot, sometimes it's just too much trouble. Past that point, as long as (Plot + gameplay >= fun) the game is good.

Should color-edits be pulled from the Louvre? in Blades of Avernum
Law Bringer

I think some judgement should be exercised. Some color edits are actually quite good, distinct from the original, and worth keeping individually in the Louvre. Most are just simple color replacements, and currently all of Daniel Ray's graphics make it hard to find the real new graphics.

—Alorael, who thinks the ZIP would be a good general rule. Special exceptions can be made for special cases, like when your first impresion is "Wow!" instead of "Yawn!"

There are far too many topics of complaints, angry responses, responses to the responses, whining, moaning, and groaning. Most of them are redundant. I'd like to avoid cluttering the board any more, so further topics that don't add anything distinctly new will be locked.

If you have something to say, say it in the current topics. There are more than enough of them.

—Alorael, who brings you this notice here because he really didn't want to create yet another topic to complain even more on.

Opalescence + Opalescence + Humility = Infinite loop = Draw

—Alorael, who still occasionally toys with the idea of making a deck that wins by being able to force an immediate infinite loop draw if anything goes wrong. Just wear protective clothing before playing excitable opponents.

Continue this, and I will post a gratuitous image in the grand style of many others before me. Then you can complain about how much the quality of the images has devolved around here.

—Alorael, who spent a good few minutes working on the image. It would be a shame to waste it now, but etiquette requires a warning first.

I would like to thank PE1 for giving Alec a good reason to post that rant. It's certainly the only thing he's done to make anyone happier, even indirectly.

—Alorael, who happens to think that the rant should be placed somewhere on file to be hauled out whenever various whiny people appear.

I trade decks of cards in my quest to have the largest collection of aces of spades in the world. Does that count as a trading card game?

—Alorael, who does not actually do this. Although now that he thinks about it it would be a fun thing to collect.

Er, yes. Well, I fail at counting, but the pattern still works.

—Alorael, who actually remembers carefully counting to nine letters by dividing seventeen into three sections of three letters each. And then he wrote 8. He is slipping into senility.

I could say something witty, but it's not worth the effort.

While bothering to register just so you can post in order to complain about the people here shows a certain dedication, it's also something we can live without.

—Alorael, who will lock this topic now before it turns into a long series of counterflames against someone who doubtless doesn't care, as only "losers and idiots" are here to flame him.

This is a rather bad series, but I believe the link is this:

TEN - 3 letters
FOUR - 4 letters
THREE - 5 letters
ELEVEN - 6 letters
FIFTEEN - 7 letters

Thus, the next in the series is 17, which happens to have eight letters.

—Alorael, who is sure he must have seen the series before. It's too random to be quickly identified.

There is really nothing objectionable in this topic, but I'm tempted to lock it anyway.

[Edit: Some things are best left unsaid. Fortunately, on forums like these one can retroactively unsay them.]

—Alorael, who awaits further news of the tomacco without much in the way of expectations.

Spiderweb has a limit of three active RP's at once. This is number four.

—Alorael, who dedicates this to all the fans of Angband on these boards and to Imban, who would do the same if he were here.

(Actually, I declared the limit to be two.) - Imban

1. No signs of it yet.
2. Not really.
3. Jeff, who will ignore you. He has years of practice.

—Alorael, who would be happy to see point-and-click dropping added. But Jeff seems to hate caving in to the requests of his customers, so don't count on it.

There are still a few old fogeys who remember the IB left. They're mostly the same few members under 100 who are still around, and a few who have inexplicably decided to create new accounts with high numbers but who were once low-numbered.

—Alorael, who can also remember the Ikonboard. He doesn't really count, though, since he was more or less an invisible newbie there.

How can you know that you had a vision of the future? You could have experienced simple deja vu, as Omlette suggested, or maybe you manufactured the memory of having had the vision when, in fact, that never happened.

—Alorael, who has also had experiences like that. But he can never remember thinking of them between the time they occurred and the time he experiences the real thing, which makes them seem like later additions to his memories.

Happy Hallowe'en, with or without the apostrophe!
