This is directed towards that guy who had the incomplete RPG and asked us whether he should finish it. Could I borrow your tiles? I'm developing a free RPG engine and I need some nice artwork for a proof-of-concept beta release. I'd credit you nice and prominently. I can't afford to pay you, however, since I am giving this thing away for free. If anyone else has any idea where I can get some good tiles, I'm up for suggestions. I've got a nice collection of terrain textures, but I desperately need character art, items, etc. Also, the tiles I have now have a definite 256-color look to them, although Pygmalion uses 24-bit color. Tiles that match this sort of style are preferred. [ Monday, November 10, 2003 10:23: Message edited by: Conspiracy Duck ] Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

What kind of enviroment is it? And what size do you want the characters? As soon as I get a few more useless graphics apps, I'll be making graphics again. You can see my current work somewhere on my site. http://www.geocities.com/loneflame1023/images.html is the exactish location. I'd post it as a link, but Aol 5.0 sucks. I've gotten a little better since I made(actually it was pretty much modified) those graphics. If you like what you see, I might be willing to contribute some of my new stuff. If you don't want my stuff, it'll just keep making it for my evil purposes --------------------- [ Friday, November 07, 2003 14:12: Message edited by: Lone Flame ] Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

I can't use any graphics based on Spiderweb Software's graphics; as derivative works, SW still has rights to them. The following generous people have already granted me permission to use their original work: Stareye, The Creator, Brett Bixler, Drakefyre, Jayne. I'm assuming TM has withdrawn his authorization on grounds of hating me. By the way, the base unit for Pygmalion graphics is a 32x32 tile, but I've had lots of success resizing BoE tiles in the past. Thuryl found a fantastic site with lots of cool tiles. [ Friday, November 07, 2003 14:29: Message edited by: Conspiracy Duck ] Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

My new stuff's made from scratch. Not much, but it'll grow and improve when I get around to working on some more. The SW-like stuff was just a sample of my skill. Just to make sure I get what your asking for... You want sprites, right? Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

Pygmalion graphics are 32x32 tiles. They work essentially like Blades of Exile tiles, except that different directions and movements are stored in different files. (Compiling a Pygmalion scenario also combines a lot of graphics into larger tile sheets for faster loading). BoE graphics work with just a bit of adjustment, but I can't legally use them. Nor do I really want to; enough people have accused me of trying to rip off SW as is. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Okay. You need 32x32 sprites. I have a few. I might give let you see them, but only if I can still use them for something else(maybe similar) I've got to quit for getting to put that stupid sig... --------------------- [ Friday, November 07, 2003 14:36: Message edited by: Lone Flame ] Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

So you need item graphics too? Hmh, promising, as I love making item graphics. Okay, they won't be super cool (check them out on Louvre, if that matters), but I could make something up. What kind of items do you specially need? -------------------- - The Great Mister Posts: 972 | Registered: Tuesday, October 28 2003 08:00 |

LF: Sure. I don't require any sort of exclusivity. KK: I just got a huge load of graphics it's going to take me a while to categorize. Let me get back to you on that. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I've got the frontals of about 15 sprites(9 guys 6 chicks-all human-). I'm currently(oh so slowly) working on the backs to them. What directions do you want them to be facing? Wait, since when did I say that anyone can't use my graphics? I mean, especially considering that I don't have any copyright on them, and Pyg is free-domain and whatnot... LoneFlame- You like designing graphics? That's great! Why not submit some to the graphics catergory of the Sixth Scenario Contest? There's nothing wrong with the statement either way, although one wonders when homy became a free-floating adjective. —Alorael, who has nothing useful to add to the discussion, as usual. Carry on. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Hmmm.... Haamana, my recent(ish) works aren't quite exile friendly(basically they aren't designed for exile's environment, but could be modified-slightly- for it). However, I might submit the old stuff of mine that was spared destruction thanx to putting them on the web. Actually, I think I will submit them. Anyway. Back to the topic. When I get done on the back views and create the side views, I'll let everyone reading these posts know. Edit: Nevermind on the graphics contest(for now-maybe-) [ Sunday, November 09, 2003 10:37: Message edited by: Lone Flame ] Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

quote:That's not true. While of course you can't use any graphics FROM a spidweb game, it's too far-fetched really to call any tile-based 32x32 sprite a 'derivative work'. Especially because lots of games use tile-based sprites for graphics and many of them predate spidweb. -------------------- Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, Wir betreten feuertrunken, Himmlische, dein Heilighthum! I didn't intend to say that. Hell, SW doesn't even use 32x32 tiles. What I mean is that I can't use things like color changes or tiles that use portions of Spiderweb's art. For example, Brett Bixler has a very attractive jungle terrain set; you might remember it from Masks. Problem is, although it's mostly original, some pieces of it do use SW art (doors, etc.). This prevents me from using these pieces of art. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I believe that the copyright to certain Spiderweb graphics are not actually exclusive to Spidweb. I've definitely seen the Dervish graphic in other games, and I think a few graphics appear in Realmz. -------------------- KazeArctica: "Imagine...wangs everywhere...and tentacles. I've been wondering why some Exile graphics doubled as Realmz graphics(aside from the obvious Fantasoft link) Posts: 1918 | Registered: Sunday, October 13 2002 07:00 |

There is actually quite a bunch of freeware graphics (and sounds etc) on the web. Granted, most of it is crap, but if you look hard enough you'll find some good stuff. For instance the sounds from SubTerra come from a variety of freeware sites (and it surprised some people that they'd seen the sounds somewhere else too) -------------------- Freude, schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, Wir betreten feuertrunken, Himmlische, dein Heilighthum! Why should he go out of his way to find horrible graphics, when almost-decent artists me will contribute just to half his name on a piece of software. Speaking of which... PC, Mac, or both? Wait, that's not a valid question. It should be Mac, OSX, PC, or Linux Edit: To whom it may concern, check your PMs, I sent you something.... I think...
