Hmm... sure, why not. Alchemy too, if you want. It'll be fun to see if you can make anything useful out of Exile's 3 most canonically useless skills. :P

The Exile games (or at least BoE; not sure about the others, but probably E3 as well) do have a somewhat simplistic difficulty system, in that you can select the "Make game easier" option in Preferences to halve the HP of all monsters.

As for making things harder... well, try to win with a party consisting entirely of archers. Once you get your first bow or crossbow, never use any other weapon or spell.

It's not actually the killing him that makes them angry, by the way. It's the wandering around (specifically, entering the cave). If you kill him and don't wander around, Icy End is fine with that.

All love is doomed, so distance doesn't make yours any more doomed than anyone else's. Go for it.

My advice: Never put a single skill point into health if you can help it -- you'll get enough from gaining levels anyway. Start with 4 intelligence, 1 dexterity, a reasonable amount of strength (at least 4, maybe up to 10), and as many levels in both Mage and Priest spells as you can get. Don't bother investing too many skill points in SP at this stage; you'll have enough just from the bonus you get from starting with spell levels. After level 1, train in Strength and one weapon skill of your choice. (Don't bother with Dexterity; seriously, don't. At all. Weapon skills are cheaper and you don't really need to use more than one weapon type anyway.)

Haste yourself for every fight. When it looks like you're about to be attacked in melee, bless yourself repeatedly so they can't hit you. Attack with magic at first, until your chosen weapon skill is trained to high enough levels to hit things. Use field spells like Wall of Force and Conflagration to do damage and protect yourself from advancing foes; they're almost as powerful as Fireball early on, and much more efficient. Don't be afraid to use Sleep Cloud to disable your opponents when you're outmatched.

It's not just that asteroid impacts are less common than rain, you know. It's also that you have to expend an awful lot more effort to adequately protect yourself against them.

If you look at the messages that appear in the status window, you'll notice that she drains your status effects. Haste yourself, and at the end of the round you get unhasted and she gets hasted instead. Bless yourself, you get unblessed and she gets blessed. So if you poison yourself...

I trust complete strangers not to beat me to death and steal my wallet in the middle of the street. Conversely, I wouldn't trust my best friends to keep secrets or refrain from telling convenient lies.

For much the same reasons, when I go outside on a cloudy day, I prepare for rain but not for asteroid impacts.

I've recently had to remove my full name from my SW profile, mainly because I found out that my dad's been Googling my name. I don't particularly care if strangers know my identity, but I don't want my family/potential employers/vindictive ex-girlfriends spying on me. I don't feel the need to eliminate all identifying details, though; if someone finds out my identity from the forums, that's okay, but if somebody finds out about the forums from my identity, that's a potential problem.

The explosives are in a small chamber in the far southwest of the bugbear caves. They're big boxy-looking things; stand next to them and look at them to take them.

You'll notice that there are two boxes of explosives in the chamber. Even though you only need one, there's a semi-hidden optional area elsewhere in the scenario where you can use the other.

I'm not locking this topic unless it turns particularly bad. It's at least as useful as the "karma" topics that occasionally get posted, and those aren't normally locked.

Kingy, be nice.

Incidentally, there's no reason you can't extend this to other things as well. If you enclose anything in URL tags, even an image, it'll become a link.

Actually, the initial damage caused by Searer is magic damage, which is different -- it just also happens to inflict acid status, which then does acid damage.

I'm posting this here because it doesn't really deserve its own topic, but I figure that given my new position of responsibility I ought to keep people informed.

With a timing that demonstrates Fate's characteristic sense of dramatic flair, my computer has shuffled off this mortal coil. I'm still going to be around on a regular basis, but I most likely won't have AIM, and I'll be online less frequently and for shorter spans of time (as I'm not going to be able to borrow other family members' computers and/or university computers indefinitely). The deceased is still under warranty, so hopefully everything will be sorted out within the next week or two.

Sorry for the interruption. You can go back to what you were doing now.
