The Exile games (or at least BoE; not sure about the others, but probably E3 as well) do have a somewhat simplistic difficulty system, in that you can select the "Make game easier" option in Preferences to halve the HP of all monsters. As for making things harder... well, try to win with a party consisting entirely of archers. Once you get your first bow or crossbow, never use any other weapon or spell.
