Original Graphic Sets? in The Exile Trilogy

Anyone have the original sprite sets for any of the Exile games? I really prefer the original to the updated, oddly enough. If you have them around anywhere and could send them to me somehow, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I recommend doing it with the mirrors... Sure, it takes longer, but lasers are fun. And as far as golems go, killing = more experience = good. Besides, they're not that hard to kill if you've played well and gotten the right gear.

Seriously. As if there's not enough cool equipment in the game already.

Level cap in A2? in The Avernum Trilogy

I can understand why Jeff didn't make the encounter unending. But it certainly was fun in E2 - I'd keep my final save right there, and whenever I wanted to kick sme Empire tail, I'd load up and fry those poor little imp-loving momma's boys.
On a somewhat-related note, is the Third Empire Army encounter in A3 infinite? Or can you finally get in there?

A3 endgame... Continuation option? in The Avernum Trilogy

Hmm. My last save point was right next to the controls. But I think my backup was right before the Vahnatai captured me. So I guess I'll go back to there. Any ideas on what to do to waste 50 days until TotM (I know, it's ToM in Avernum, but I like the Exile version better) gets invaded? (And who the heck takes 160 days to beat the game, anyway?!)

I agree. A sequel would be better than a facelift - and I haven't even beaten Nethergate yet! (I am trying, though - I just started yesterday!)

After the little movie at the end, a window pops up saying something to the effect of there's still a lot more to do. I mean, I had a few minor quests left, and I had really cool stuff to drop off at my house! (I'm a pack rat; you never know when three suits of blessed plate mail will come in handy! Plus, do you really want that kind of power availible to the general public?)
The only problem is, the window says Quit, Restart, or Restore. Is there any way to continue playing the game, like there was in A1 and 2?

True, but I never had much of a problem with experience in E2... I mean, my characters didn't hit the cap, but they were certainly the most dangerous thing in the caves.

I believe Princess Ruth is correct. Of course, it's been, what, three years since I beat that game?

And yes, the Empire troops there are a lot easier to beat in E2 - then again, the man-to-man odds are more in your favor, too.

Just do what Jeff recommends in the letter he sends when you register: make a backup copy of Avernum.dat (for Windows users, at least) and store it in a safe place. I store it in three safe places for extra security: USB flash drive, CD-RW, and as an attachment that I emailed to myself.

I would have to agree with Rent-an-Ihrno. Having played and beaten A3 over the last six days, "HA HA" seems more familiar than "HA HA HA". Of course, if you're seeing that, then you've gone too far. But Alo already said that.

Know any good RPGs? in General

If you haven't gotten it yet, you can get BGII and the expansion pack together for only $20. Well, in the States. Someone (can't remember who...) mentioned Morrowind - I have The Elder Scrolls, and it's a good game. Other than that, if your Internet really sucks, go with a text-based RPG - I personally recommend Materia Magica (www.MateriaMagica.com) for a large community; Arkheim Winter (I forget the URL) is good if you're looking for true, actual role-playing.

The Empire camp that you call an unending loop is only unending in E2. In A2, they'll only rush out at you three times. Maybe five. But they do stop, entirely too soon.

Wrapped-Up Bug in The Avernum Trilogy

Hmm... Been a while since I've played A2. But here's what I remember, without giving too much away:

Check around the area where you got the bug. (North of Mancuso, if I remember correctly.) There should be an altar somewhere around there. With the bug in your inventory, something interesting should happen. It may take several times, and the special happening may be repeatable - like I said, it's been a while, and I'm not 100% sure. Just play around with bugs and the altar and eventually something good will occur.

EDIT: Please let me know if this works.

Would Exile make a SWEET movie? in The Exile Trilogy

I like the name "Exile" a lot better. It just sounds cooler. I can imagine bits of A1 in the movie though - the party comes out of the castle and head west. They rise over a hill (I know, no hills in that area... Call it poetic license.) and see Fort Remote. In ruins. All of those brave soldiers, some of them the party's good friends. They then swear an oath to hunt down the monster that committed this atrocity. Fade to black.

If someone did a (really, really good, hyper-accurate) BoE version of A4, I would buy BoE for that one reason alone.

Hint, hint, all you BoE experts with too much free time.

Death to Anama!!! in The Avernum Trilogy

A more careful licensing system and tracking of all wands, crystals, alembics, and other paraphernalia of the mage would go a long way.
Yeah, but if only good people control magic, then adventurers everywhere would be out of jobs. Unless you really like the courier jobs, in which case, have at it!

On a similar note, my party uses magic for, shall we say, less-than-noble purposes. I kinda have the attitude of, "If I can steal it and get away with it, I will, because ultimately I am the only thing that stands between these people and their untimely demise."

what do you think of summoning? in The Avernum Trilogy
Shock Trooper

Simulacrum is the only spell I use... I had an Efreet in there, but my Naga took its place. I only use the Naga, though, when the enemy outnumbers me by some huge ratio (7:1 or higher, usually).

I never get anything good with arcane summon, though I must admit that Divine Host scrolls are incredibly useful against things like Fetid Zombies - they are my meat shield, I stay back with arrows, razordisks, and spells.

EDIT: As my Soul Crystal slots have changed, so has my mind. In A3, stick a Dark Wyrm in there - I use him for big, special fights (like the endgame against Rentar, who I would dearly love to be able to destroy, but that's off-topic...) and he can usually drop three or four guys - that's three or four guys that I don't have to worry about, and I accordingly retarget my spells.

Doesn't Skribbane also increase your spell points above maximum? (I used 20+ once just to see what it did, but that was a _long_ time ago, so my memory may be serving me poorly.)

In the demo of E3 (no money to register E3 yet), I pulled together a very nice Anama party.

Priest skill all around, with PCs 1, 2, and 3 having sword, spear/throwing, and mace/archery, respectively.

Assassination was eventually given to the first three (who were mainly there to keep melee enemies from the other three).

Alchemy on PC number six, item lore given to #4, and #5 was used as a pack horse/healer.

Races were Nephil, Slith, Nephil, Nephil, Human, and Slith, in order.
