Can someone please explain how the whole 3-D direction thing works? I still can't figure out which monsters are adjacent to which of my characters half the time. >_> Sometimes it seems like I'm way far away from a monster, and I take a step toward it, only I don't, I attack it; sometimes I think I'm adjacent to one but I'm not. It confuses me horribly. ^^;;

Looking at the automap may help, or if you're looking at the automap already, looking at the main screen may be more useful. The iso-3D thing is based on a 2D engine. Do you use the mouse or the keypad to move? (Or the arrow keys?)

I don't really understand what's so difficult.

1) I recommend to use the arrow keys, and not the mouse as in Exile. Only use the mouse if you want to make a step diagonally.

2) In a fight there are these drwan squares on the floor? look at the squares if you're always confused.

i recommend not the arrow keys but the numeric keypad. if you still have problems, you might be not wearing your glasses.

You can also turn on the grid in the preferences.

The grid helps bunches.

Otherwise, just keep guessing.

You should also (if it's Avernum 1) look at the left mouse-right mouse thread to see if that might be the problem too. (It's annoying to walk 2 steps, or one and then attack).

If you're uring the numeric keypad (which I recommend), make sure NumLock is on.
