The graphic itself isn't the problem. You need to check your custom objects script and make sure your custom terrain has the correct te_move_block properties, or that you're importing from a terrain that does. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! quote:Also, it's pretty much impossible to live through a toe-to-toe fight without abusing the game mechanics, such as through the creative use of dynamite. (Really, the fact that players can win such fights is more of a flaw than the fact that they can't do so easily -- the player characters are pretty much supposed to be completely out of their league most of the time.) Whilst doing work experience at a hospital, I once became somewhat lost and inadvertently wandered into the psychiatric inpatient ward. Given my slightly dishevelled appearance and the fact that I wasn't carrying any identification, it took some fast talking to get myself out of there. This isn't actually my most embarrassing moment, but it's the only one that I feel comfortable relating as an anecdote. Simulacrum *can* fail, but if it's at a high enough level, it generally has an extremely high success rate even against very powerful monsters. A few creature types are immune, though. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

There is a Simulacrum spell in BoA, but it doesn't work the same way as it did in the Exile series. There's no Capture Soul spell, and Simulacrum just summons a friendly copy of whatever monster you cast it on. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Er, Alo? This is the Avernum Trilogy forums. Inadvertently fireballing your summons isn't an issue. :P Having said that, summoning still isn't enormously useful. It's somewhat more so in BoA, where you're occasionally likely to run into things you just don't want to face in melee. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Note that a number of people have reported continuing problems even with the latest patch. For some of these people, redownloading the game from scratch seemed to help. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

quote:Well, the one-weekend figure I quoted was for a town with dialogue and quests. In my "15-20 towns" figure, on the other hand, I included dungeons and other areas that won't necessarily be so involved. But yeah, on the whole it's a long process. Roots took me 3 months to make, and it's only 10 towns. It's not as if I was working on it every day, and Roots crams about as much into every one of those towns as BoE's limitations allow, but still, scenario design is hard work. Also keep in mind that as with any creative work, you have to factor in the amount of time you can expect to spend thinking about working while not actually working. quote:Depends on how efficiently you work and how detailed you make it, but expect it to take at least a solid weekend. quote:15-20 towns seems like a reasonable length, but it depends on how much you put into each of them. quote:This is a matter of preference. I like to have the entire plot planned out on paper before I touch the editor, but once I'm actually in the editor I do terrain before coding and dialogue. quote:Depends on how much work it'll take you. If it's just a couple of different choices the player makes that affect the ending, it won't be much effort for you, so go for it. If the scenario takes an entirely different path based on decisions the player makes early on, it's probably a bit much. An outdoor town entrance rectangle *must* be at least 3x3 in size for the game to process town entry points correctly. The way you're describing it, it sounds like you've just made your town entry a single space. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Be warned that experience penalties for race and positive traits in Avernum 2 are extremely harsh. For example, a total 70% penalty literally means that you'll be gaining 70% less experience. Avernum 3 changes this, but it's still an oddity of A2 that has to be kept in mind. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! A scenario can have up to 130 shops. Are you sure the shops you're calling are the same shop numbers as the shops you've added items to? Double-check. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It's not as utterly unprecedented as K-dawg makes it sound -- there have been times when it's happened before on these forums -- but all the same, it's unusual to see anyone change their opinion in the course of a single argument. (That's true of any argument, of course, not just those that take place on SW.) -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Are you trying to make as accurate a remake as possible, or just a scenario that borrows its plot? Some aspects, like the psionics and the block-pushing puzzles, might be hard to implement in BoA. Generally I'd advise you to stay away from possible copyright infringement, but honestly, if Jeff allows scenarios set in the Star Wars universe to be put up on SW's site I don't think he's going to be overly strict about a scenario inspired by an obscure game. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun!
