Rules are rules, I'm afraid. If it's any consolation, Spiderweb has always been very good about giving out replacement registration codes promptly and graciously. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Please don't revive three-day-old topics, especially not to tell people to do things they shouldn't. While I must confess that I find the idea of using the free version of a filesharing client to pirate its own paid version amusing in an ironic sort of way, this topic seems to have run out of steam, it's not really on-topic for the forums, some people are getting really close to discussion of illegal activities, and besides, I've been looking for a reason to use my new topic-locking gimmick. So... In the name of Sun Myung Moon, I'll punish you! ![]() -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Divinely Touched increases your Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence by 1 point at level 1 plus 1 point every 8th level after that. It also gives you three special abilities, usable once per day. The most significant of these abilities is Divine Aid, which is a kind of super haste and bless (doubles your AP and greatly reduces the damage you take from enemy attacks). I've spoken to the scenario designer. He has no idea what's going on and nobody else has reported a similar problem. All I can suggest is that you make sure that no other applications are running at the same time as BoA, to reduce the possibility of memory issues. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Hmm. Looking at the script, I'm guessing that for whatever reason your copy of BoA is violently objecting to the force_view_center(47,47) call. Open up t2Exit.txt in the scenario folder, look for both lines in the script that read force_view_center(47,47); and delete them. Alternatively, try changing them to force_view_center(30,30); or another black space within the town boundaries. NPCs are generally worthwhile only if they're at a significantly higher level than you are when you pick them up, and then only in Avernum 3. Avernum 1 and 2 have quirks in their experience system that can cause your other characters' experience gains to suffer if you pick up a high-level NPC. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! If you haven't done so already, download the latest version of the scenario from here: http://tm.desperance.net/MadAmbition.html Not sure if this will help, since I haven't heard anyone report that particular error at that particular place before, but it's worth a try. If that doesn't fix the problem, reply and we'll have a go at tracking down what exactly is wrong. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! The Shaper is probably the easiest class; battles can sometimes take longer than with an Agent, but if you let your creations do all the fighting for you there's much less risk of dying. It's also the one that's most characteristically Geneforge-ish; the Guardian and Agent are pretty standard fighter and mage characters. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! If the regular editor is giving you trouble, try the 3D editor. It may or may not solve your problem, but it's better anyway. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The secret passage you want is in the lava bridge town itself. There's no way to help the unicorns without fighting giants; lots and lots of giants. Personally I didn't find them very difficult, but everyone else seems to have trouble with them. A hint: before outdoor combats, you can drink haste potions to go into battle hasted, which is enormously helpful. If anyone in your party has the Divine Aid ability, you can activate that before combat as well. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! By the way, consider trying some of Spiderweb Software's other games, such as Nethergate, Blades of Exile and Blades of Avernum. Nethergate is very different from anything else SW has made, with a historical setting and a quirky statistic system that you'll either love or hate. Blades of Exile and Blades of Avernum are campaign editors based on the Exile and Avernum engines; there are many excellent third-party scenarios available for Blades of Exile, and a few already available for Blades of Avernum. Better still, you can get Nethergate, Blades of Exile or both for only $15 each with the purchase of any other game. And if you've bought Blades of Exile, you can get a $10 discount on Blades of Avernum. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to let ANY character get encumbered severely enough to start losing action points. I keep my fighters at 2 encumbrance and my mages at 1 encumbrance at all times. If you bless your party enough times, physical attacks should almost never hit them anyway. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Firstly, calm down. Secondly, your observation is true of any summoning spell. If a summoned monster kills something, you don't get any significant amount of experience for it. Summoning is generally more useful for defending yourself than for attacking opponents anyway, although Simulacrum is something of an exception to this. Thirdly, by the later parts of the game (experience level 20 onwards) you don't really benefit a huge amount from gaining further levels anyway. You start to get fewer skill points per level, you can get skill points by buying Knowledge Brews, and there are fewer useful things left to spend your skill points on.
