I believe the bonus stacks with other equipment that protects you from melee damage, though -- with the assistance of item enchantment platorms, I think it's possible to get your total melee resistance up to 50% in Avernum 3. I'm not sure whether the protection is applied before or after the protection given to you by ordinary armour; if it's applied before, then it's somewhat more useful. If you're downloading from Spiderweb's FTP server, try using "anonymous" as your username and your email address as your password. There should be a preference option in your browser that does this automatically for you, but if you only use FTP occasionally you don't really need to set it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! No, you can't play your own scenarios without registering. The only scenario you can play with an unregistered version of BoE or BoA is Valley of Dying Things. But you can still use the scenario editors without registering BoE or BoA, so in theory you can still make scenarios. The only problem is that you'll have no way to playtest them to make sure they work. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! What files do BoA and the editors share, exactly? Given that two separate copies of BoA, in separate directories, both failed to work, it can't be anything in the BoA directory itself. A corrupted preference file seems the next obvious suggestion. Try looking in your preferences folder (Users/apple/Library/Preferences) and moving everything with "Blades of Avernum" in its name into the trash. If everything works again after that, the preferences were causing the problem; delete them. (Note: this will unregister BoA.) In theory, you can make a complete scenario without registering BoE or BoA. In practice, it will be buggy and unplayable if you don't test it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Caution: the Death Charm is buggy. If you try to use it before visiting the priestess, it's possible to make the scenario unwinnable. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Are you playing under low-memory conditions, by any chance? (On an old computer or with a lot of other programs open, for example.) Since the most notable thing about the model town room is that it has a lot of different terrain and monster types in it, and displaying a lot of different graphics requires extra memory, that could explain the problem. I have my suspicions as to who, if anyone, might be going, but I've made a policy of not publicly speculating about that issue and I'm not going to change it now. One of the pillars of SW forum culture is that you don't have any ownership over the topics you make, and you can't expect them to stay on topic forever. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. Thank you to everyone who voted for someone else as well, for expressing your views and helping to make the process fair. Congratulations to Stughalf for his strong showing in the election; from reading people's explanations for their votes, one can clearly see that there was strong popular support for both of us, and that either of us would most likely have been widely accepted by the community if appointed as moderator. Now to have my blood stretched. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

First impression: it's possible that the new attacks weren't intended to cause serious injury, and are just meant to keep up the climate of public anxiety for a little longer -- the equivalent of sending envelopes full of talcum powder. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun!
