Well, there's Fallout and Fallout 2, but chances are you've already played those. Actually, pretty much anything by Troika Games (a studio founded by three of the guys who made Fallout) is good for that sort of gameplay, if you don't mind tracking down fanmade patches to fix the bugs.

Random name generators in General

Come on, you know you've used 'em, so share 'em.

I recently stumbled upon the Evil-Sounding Name Generator. The names it generates tend not to be very good, but they do tend to be bad in amusing ways. I asked it to generate a greed-themed name and ended up with "Moneycoin the Grasping" which, if nothing else can be said for it, at least gets to the point.

(Countdown to the first joke about TM's town name generator: ???)

They didn't start the fire; it was always burning since the world's been turning.

But seriously, what's wrong with flint and tinder? There's certainly no shortage of the former.

I really, really wish that people could get this straight. I once showed up for a job interview at 12:30 a.m. I was naturally somewhat skeptical that that was the correct time, but I confirmed the time on the phone with the boss's secretary the day before the interview. Of course, it turned out they'd meant 12:30 p.m. after all.

For what it's worth, Phantasy Star III is almost universally considered the worst game in its series. (Admittedly, not just because of the romance element.)

Ned Kelly had an 8000-pound price on his head? That's massive -- even 200 pounds was considered a large reward at the time.

Homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers and especially potatoes are all full of natural poisons and carcinogens. That's why we have livers.

You need the Blessed Athame to break the seal on the flask. It can be found in the Tower of Magi.

Check out this FAQ for information on what you need to do in the Tower of Magi.

There are a couple of areas you're not really supposed to fight your way through at the time you first reach them: most notably, Turabi Gate.

Turn the difficulty down.

If you want more specific advice, it would help to know what class you're playing. In general, Lifecrafters should pump Intelligence, a little Blessing Magic, Mental Magic and Healing Craft, a couple of points of shaping skills and not much else. Serviles should pump Endurance, a little Strength and a little magic; they can neglect combat skills early on and still be effective in combat. Infiltrators should pump magic skills (focus primarily on Battle or Mental: your choice) and can put the occasional spare point into endurance, combat skills or shaping. Warriors and Shock Troopers are suboptimal (although Shock Troopers can be a lot of fun to play if you're good). Every class can benefit from a little shaping ability even if it's not their strong point.

You didn't lie, and it's no rumour. Jeff has indeed confirmed that a major reason he didn't include such a class is that he couldn't see a way of making it balanced.

While this is true, aspartame is so sweet that the amount actually used in foods is pretty damn small. The amount of methanol produced by breaking down the aspartame in a can of Diet Coke is less than the amount naturally found in, say, a tomato.

Stealth reduces enemies' "sight" radius with respect to you, so you can get closer before they notice you. Oddly enough, it even works on mines.

On second thought, it probably just causes more damage to the undead.

Oh wait, that's right, it does, that's what bane is all about.
That's probably what Radiance would do, if it worked, which it doesn't seem to, which is what we've been saying.

It seemed more like a Diablo-esque real-time thing (where different weapons had different delays between attacks), except the automation spared you the clicking frenzy.

That is what real-time combat in Arcanum is like. There is an option for turn-based combat. You will enjoy the game a great deal more if you turn it on.

Tacking on optional real-time combat to a system not designed for it doesn't tend to turn out well. Look at Arcanum.
