There's something that's been bugging me recently, and while it's rather trivial and silly, I still have to know. How do people start fire in the Avernum world? More specifically, how do adventurers, in the middle of a cave with no ignition source in sight, spontaneously light a torch/lamp/candle? I doubt the Avernum universe has matches or butane lighters, and parties without magic-users can light them just the same as those with magic-users. So how do the light them? They didn't start the fire; it was always burning since the world's been turning. But seriously, what's wrong with flint and tinder? There's certainly no shortage of the former. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

And during a battle? Unless you're suggesting a scene like this: quote:Seriously, though, the player's party is never shown carrying flint, and in the case of the lamp, it'd be very difficult to light in such a manner. -------------------- Scenarios need reviews! Matches aren't that radical an idea. The chemicals they require have been used for a really long time, and I think Ermarian can get away with a sulfur-coated stick (which Wikipedia dates to 3500 BC in Egypt) without becoming too modern. I don't know if those ancient matches still needed a spark or were friction-ignited, but making a spark is also really simple. You could argue it takes more than one action point in combat, but that's unnecessary detail - in any case, it's far less than a minute. (Face it: Teleportation, but no fire? WTH?) -------------------- The Noble and Most Ancient Order of Polaris - We're Not Yet Dead. Speaking of matches, try getting through a dungeon with them. At least this was the third one I had to look at before I died of laughter. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The mushrooms would die. What you would have to do is make a little creature the glows (enough to light your way plus a little more), that way you can just feed it. And it wouldn't even need that much food/water. -------------------- I can transform into almost anything, though not sanity. Then it would cause a massive multi-dimensional collapse from accidentally existing in the Avernum universe when it belongs in the Geneforge universe. -------------------- Scenarios need reviews! Vahnatai, no less, which we have since conjectured to be Avernum's version of Shapers anyway... -------------------- The Noble and Most Ancient Order of Polaris - We're Not Yet Dead. Jeff has said the Vahnatai aren't the Shapers. Jeff creates the games. Thus, the Vahnatai aren't the Shapers. -------------------- Scenarios need reviews! The Borg would most likely win by simply assimilating everyone on the spot. Edit: I love tangents!
