Well, we already use "normotensive" to describe someone with blood pressure within the normal range, so I came up with "normodactyly" based on that. It gets the right idea across, at least. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The bug, by the way, is that it isn't supposed to be possible to dispel the barriers in Fort Emerald until the plot requires you to. The main consequences of triggering this bug are that you can't do any further quests along the Almaria/Ghall-Ihrno plotline (so if Almaria is still hostile at the time you find the box, it'll stay hostile forever). Other than that, the game is perfectly finishable. (There's no way to save Houghton, by the way, even if you play the game normally. If you keep him alive until the end of the fight, he dies of poisoning from the scratch inflicted on him when the Vahnatai first appeared.) Unfortunately, "orthodactyly" is also taken as the name of an abnormal medical condition. It's when you're incapable of bending your digits. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

quote:Clearly, then, the correct state is one of oligodactyly. Or would that be having more than one digit, but still fewer than normal? A quick search reveals that the term is in fact used to mean having fewer digits than normal. I suppose we'll have to stick with "normodactyly", then. Someone tried... modifying... his Blades of Exile saved game to give himself more than 250 health once. It didn't work very well; every time he gained a level, it reset back to 250. (It's possible to get to 251 health through normal means if you're at 249 health and train in Health. But again, if you gain a level it resets itself to 250.) -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

There are two areas full of dark sliths. The one where you find the Emerald Chestguard is west of Fort Dranlon. Look for a secret passage in the far northwest of that area. Don't go in unless you're well-prepared. Note that you need to talk to Ariadne in Fort Dranlon before you can find the secret passage. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I believe SW games use a different format for preferences across platforms. Transferring your Mac preferences file to Windows won't successfully transfer your preferences across. I'm not sure of this, though; you could always try it. I do know that they're in the same format for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, just stored in different places. How would you implement keyboard-based targeting in a game with area-of-effect spells, anyway? The only solution I can think of would be to number all the rows and columns on the screen with a Battleship-style grid, allowing the player to type in "b7" or whatever to target the square at the centre of the area of effect. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Actually, Geneforge 1 has a level cap at 30. But you can only get past the mid-20s by repeatedly creating and killing your own creations, since nothing else will give you XP. Avernum 4 supposedly has a level cap at 60, although this can only be reached by massive cheating -- you're likely to end no higher than the mid-30s for a normal party, or the mid-40s for a singleton. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Dispel Barrier is a reward. Talk to Kelner after killing the demon, and he'll unlock a door in his room, allowing you to read a book which teaches you the spell. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

In Avernum 4, you'll still need to use the mouse occasionally to target spells and missile weapons, select items, and so on, but many things (including moving from place to place) can be done with the keyboard. Unfortunately, I don't think Geneforge 3 has keyboard movement, so you'd be using the mouse a lot more for that. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! A data point: in Exile 2, Demonslayer and Ravage Spirit did work against Rakshasi, so it seems that at that point Jeff considered Rakshasi to be demons. This was changed by BoE, in which demon-slaying weapons and spells no longer affect Rakshasi; I'm not sure whether or not they were considered demons in Exile 3. I don't believe Demonslayer or Ravage Spirit ever worked against efreeti, though. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure!
