Well, either the sentence was ambiguously phrased, or Nicothodes somehow completely failed to notice half a dozen Australians on the list. It's a question of plausibility. Set Stuff Done Flag is mostly a debugging option for Jeff Vogel and maybe for betatesters. Nothing much you can do at this point besides give up that quest as a bad job. You can still finish the game, though. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It's actually easier for a moderator to accidentally double-post, because unlike normal members we don't appear to have flood control on our posts. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

They're not much help anyway, if it makes you feel any better. Just go on without them. EDIT: Wait, which ones are these? The first group you run into, a short distance west of the fort, are meant to attack you; those ones are working for Rentar. There's another group much later on that will help you. All the archmages who appear in A4 are pale shadows of their former selves, actually. It's a little creepy. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

It'd probably be a fairly simple matter to edit the scripts to allow yourself to proceed, if you were so inclined. I'm not about to tell you how to do it, though. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Wow. Um, I hope you had fun playing through 70% of the game in the dark? I can understand why those passages wouldn't work in the unregistered version, though. The script for both of those secret passages checks to see if there's a wall where the passage is, and removes the wall if it's there. If you're playing in blackness, the terrain types for walls are switched with different ones, so the script doesn't find the terrain type it expects, and therefore assumes the passage has already been opened. I'm curious: what happens if you try to talk to an NPC in Bargha? Can you carry out a conversation as normal? It sounds almost as if your dialogue scripts aren't working for some reason. Except for lab equipment. I held on to that for a while, but there doesn't seem to be a quest for it anywhere, and it's worth quite a lot if you sell it. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Yes, the passage should open if you follow the gravel path from where you get that message to the north. This is odd. Has the game displayed any error messages recently? If not (or even if so), do you mind opening up your Scripts folder and posting the entire contents of the files z12abyssdlg.txt and z22barghadlg.txt so that we can see if they've somehow become corrupted? Quest-related bonuses to a skill don't limit your ability to purchase training in it later, but skill point investments do. If you've already raised a skill twice using skill points, you can't be trained in it. In the northern cave wall a very short distance west from Bargha. Stand near the wall and a passage will open. You'd better either be really good at opening locks or fairly good at fighting if you want to get past without the key. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Speaking of rivalries, I've now pulled ahead of TM by several hundred posts, and at this rate he won't be closing in on me any time soon. Wait, wasn't the point of this originally to discourage people from excessive posting? Whoops. All the really important quest-related items (and some less important ones) are unsellable. It's only for a few of the minor quests that you can inadvertently sell items that are needed to complete the quest. quote:After all, it's not realistic to be able to dig around in your backpack for an item in the same amount of time it takes to grab an item from your belt. The extra AP cost for using an item in your regular inventory reflects this. (See Fallout for an example of an easily exploitable inventory management system. Using a healing item that was in your hand cost 2 action points. Accessing inventory cost 4 action points, but after that you could use as many items as you liked for no additional AP cost. Very handy if you were badly injured enough to need to use 5 or so healing items at once.)
