Um, whaaaaaaat? Many Linux distributors make a handy profit by selling tech support. Please check your facts in future? :P

As for why most people use Windows? Frequency-dependent selection. There are considerable advantages to be had by using the same kind of computer as everyone else. Windows managed to become the first de facto standard OS, and much like the QWERTY keyboard, that allows it to maintain its position despite obvious flaws.

Poser's a fairly popular 3D modelling and rendering program, designed specifically for making models of humans. I believe that Brett Bixler has a copy, although he's not around as often as he used to be and I don't know if one could talk him into helping make graphics for A5.

Depends how many archers and mages you have. It's possible to damage pylons faster than they regenerate, but it's frustratingly slow.

By the way, for those who don't know already, green (Jade Runed) pylons are vulnerable to magic, orange (Ruby Runed) pylons are vulnerable to cold, and blue (Opal Runed) pylons are vulnerable to fire. All three are also vulnerable to acid.

If it makes you feel any better, I think I may have started even fewer topics than that. Of the ones I can remember, one was on Misc, one was in BoA, one was in General and the rest were on the mod board (and hence invisible to mortal eyes).

You can't get into Spire Fortress until later. For now, keep doing other missions for the Castle.

Is this the one west of Fort Remote with all the pylons, or the one in the northwest tunnels with... well, all the pylons?

If the former, stay as far away from them as possible when you can, and run past them while hasted when you can't. You can get past most areas without having to kill pylons or suffer attacks from them. (Come back and explore more thoroughly after you've turned off the pylons; there's some nice treasure scattered around.)

If the latter, haste everyone, cast Prismatic Shield or Arcane Shield and make a beeline straight through the field of pylons. If your party has high Nature Lore, look for a cache in the far northwest of the field of pylons -- there's an item there that's definitely worth getting. Don't bother trying to kill pylons or protect your Vahnatai allies; it's not worth it.

Actually, it isn't odd. Most topics never get to more than one page, so the proportion of total replies which are also the first reply on a new page of a topic is less than 1 in 25.

2. Counter-Spyware. Have a program take a piece of spyware, trace it back to where it sends it's info (or where it came from originally), and then assault that machine.

The first is a bad idea. If your antivirus has a serious bug in it, then it's just another piece of malware (and even if it doesn't have bugs, a program that automatically distributes itself has the potential to bring down networks). Programs that install themselves without the informed consent of the computer's owner are bad news.

And the second idea is just plain illegal.

Well, I'll be jiggered. I suppose, then, that the only restriction on publicly displayed names is that you can't change your PDN to someone else's login name.

Which brings up another point -- the slimes always looked kinda like cabbages to me.

I'm not really sure how one would do a good slime in GF-style graphics, though. Oh well.

It's pretty easy to get stunned into immobility if you charge your fighter into a cave full of submission fungi. Even with (nominally) 100% stun resistance, you're likely to come out of that a few AP down every round; if you're wearing the Emerald Chestguard or other armour with poor stun resistance, whoever's getting hit will likely be useless most of the time.

A character or monster that's stunned in one round will have fewer action points in the following round. If it's stunned badly enough, it may even miss its next turn entirely.

Jeff, the lack of graphics is one area in which BoE/A designers should have a lot of sympathy for you. Even though the lack of variety in graphics does sometimes detract from the game, I personally can't really fault you for having difficulty finding/making large numbers of good graphics.

Whoops. You're right.

Investing in the appropriate weapon skill is still better if all you want is to do damage, though.

I'm rather fond of the Oozing Blade too; I found it quite early and kept it on my fighter until the endgame.

Really, though, there are so many top-notch items of different kinds that it's hard to choose between them. Hero's Necklace, Avenger's Ring, Answering Gauntlets...

I'm told that Heartstriker is a sickeningly powerful bow, although unfortunately I was never able to gain enough Nature Lore to dig it out.

The problem is that a 1.44 MB disk doesn't actually have a capacity of 1.44 MB, for some definitions of "MB". It's the whole megabyte/mibibyte thing.

Anyway, you could always divide a single file over multiple disks using a compression utility (WinZip has an option to do this). Then all you have to worry about is getting WinZip onto your Compaq.
