Yes, you have to unlock the door. Start putting points in Tool Use. You'll need 15 Tool Use by the time you get to Formello anyway.

So you didn't find the information about the traitor either?

You need to go back into the lair and explore more thoroughly.

1. What are sheets??

If you're on Windows, a sheet is an individual graphics file. For example, if inside a scenario folder you see a file with a name like G500.bmp, that's a sheet. If you're on Mac OS, a sheet is an individual resource number within the scenario's .cmg file.

2. How do I find out if a picture I want to use is at 72 dpi and if it's 8 or 16 bit? I've been trying but can't find any such info on the picture.
Most images designed to be displayed on a computer screen are at 72 dpi. 8 bit means 256 colours; 16 bit means thousands of colours. (A good graphic editing program should be able to tell you the colour depth of an image.)

No. A "kraut" is an offensive term for a German. Aran is a German. Therefore, TM is trying to offend Aran.

TM, don't try to offend Aran.

Actually, it's only 5-25 extra damage. Remember, the damage of missile attacks only increases once for every two levels of dexterity you get.

And when it's easy enough to get a 95% hit rate against most enemies with only the appropriate weapon skill (which it is, especially if you're blessed), why invest in Dexterity at all?

Last time someone did that, the server mistook it for a DoS attack and automatically IP-banned him for an hour.

"Oldest" and "longest-lived" are not synonymous. Age is measured by the date of the first post; lifespan is measured by the time elapsed between the first post and the most recent post.

You know, if you create a second character, even if it's just temporarily and for the extra Vahnatai Lore skill, you're not technically playing a singleton any more. :P

There are a few places where you can buy herbs, but not many. You can find them here and there in caves and caches.

Well, you still have to give someone Tool Use if you want to be able to disarm traps, since Unlock Doors doesn't work on those. If you also make the person you're giving Tool Use to into a full-time mage, he can unlock doors without needing a ridiculously high investment in Tool Use. And mage spells are handy for other things as well.

Are you sure all the points in those skills are actually points that you've gained by spending skill points or buying training, and not bonuses from items or traits?

I did put a Warrior's Cloak on my mage for a while, until I found the Symbiotic Cloak. I ended up with an Archer's Cloak on one archer/priest, a Deadeye Cloak on the other archer/priest, and a Symbiotic Cloak on my mage. (My mage also had a Bonding Knife and Quicksilver Sandals, and never put a single point into Strength or Dexterity, so at the end of the game his Str and Dex were both 0. His strength would have been -2 if it were possible for stats to go into negatives. Fortunately, it isn't, as his equipment weighed a total of almost exactly 50 pounds, which was the most he could carry without encumbrance.)

Various places. Some are available online. Some aren't.

That would require a great deal of effort on the part of one or more administrators, who are all fairly busy people. You can try to convince them to spend several hours of their free time selectively pruning the forums if you want, I suppose, but I don't like your chances.

You'll find there are quite a few players from Australia and New Zealand here.

Anyway, in answer to your question, Avernum 4's manual includes a summary of most of what you need to know about the Avernum, so if you like A4's gameplay best then you won't miss too much plot by playing that first. On the other hand, some people prefer other Avernum games over A4, so decide which demo you like best before buying one.

Blades of Avernum doesn't really relate to the broader plot of the Avernum series: the real attraction of it is the ability to make your own scenarios and play ones that others have made. Mind you, that's a big attraction, and BoA is well and truly worth getting for that alone. In fact, Blades of Exile has even more scenarios available (over 300), so that's also worth looking at.

You know, there comes a point where it's more efficient to just give your thief some Mage Spells skill so he can cast Unlock Doors.

It did.

How does dividing work in A4?
Some monsters, when killed, automatically "summon" one or more weaker monsters. Occasionally these weaker monsters themselves create new monsters when killed, and so on.

Yep. For game balance reasons, you're limited to 2 traits. In the Exile series, this wasn't the case, and everyone tended to load their party up with all of the useful advantages and tolerable disadvantages.

Actually, Prismatic Shield won't help against dazing, since it doesn't provide mental shielding. (It's worth using anyway, though, since the demon can also freeze you.)

Honestly, though, I had no real difficulty with that fight. It helped that my fighter had 10 Parry by that point, so I could just park him directly in front of the demon, having him draw the attacks from the demon and all its summoned monsters while taking virtually no damage from any of them.
