Shadow leather can be worn while casting mage spells. If your mage is a natural mage (as he should be) it sucks. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Posts: 322 | Registered: Monday, April 12 2004 07:00 |

Actually, knowledge brews gave you five skill points in A2 also. I know because I got mad the first time I drank one in A3 (yesterday) right after playing A2. The Alien Blade's pretty nice in A1. I think I used that throughout the whole game with my singleton...including when I killed Grah-hoth. That was kinda funny. :) -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Posts: 322 | Registered: Monday, April 12 2004 07:00 |

Definitely not normal. However, if you want to buy the Avernum games, you should just buy the Avernum trilogy. It's much cheaper, and you get registered versions on CD for just the shipping (which is like $2). :) -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Are you sure you've gotten them that way? I think I remember them resetting every time you leave the tomb, so you have to change all the ones that need it in a single go. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. I recently got A3 and started playing it, but whenever I climb into a boat it says something along the lines of 'system can't play sound' and gives me error number 2 -85 -204 (something like it, anyway...I can check later). I've checked, and the rowing sound is in the sound file for the game...the kicker is that I had a copy of the original demo (v 1.0) lying around, and there aren't any problems with that. The error only occurs with version 1.1.3 (or whatever the newest version on CD is). Any advice? -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. It was really quiet right before the Windows release, too...perhaps all the "I can't find this in the docs" questions are over so people need less help. Yes. It's one of the things that makes singleton Divinely Touched Natural Mage mage/priests (no fighting skills at all!) playable in A2. :D -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Posts: 322 | Registered: Monday, April 12 2004 07:00 |

ACtually, that's got to be a feature; Jeff probably put that in on purpose. At enough urging he may remove it, but good luck trying. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Posts: 322 | Registered: Monday, April 12 2004 07:00 |

quote:This is one of the apparently lesser-known benefits of running a singleton party. I'm playing all three trilogy games for the first time with a singleton, and the only time I really run out of room is when I can't fit all the looted chainmails from Empire elite soldiers and stuff. I find myself buying skill levels just to be able to keep selling items (I got up to level 13 magery in A2!). So, in A2 I went with a divinely touched, natural mage shaman (dual mage/priest; I raised them equally until I had cloud of blades and then finished my mage before finishing my priest) singleton. It was pretty slow (and hard) early on but well worth it in the end after he started getting some decent health. It was kind of amusing to watch him stomp through Garzhad's palace using Demonslayer and potions more than any magic. (I got my melee skill up to ~10 and had 3-5 each of gymnastics, anatomy, etc) In Avernum I played with a pretty even mix of melee/mage/priest, though I left off with the priest skill as both magics became too expensive to hold. I'm playing A3 with a (possibly Slith) fighter/priest. In the unregistered BoA the only run-through I did was with a mage, priest, and two soldiers. One of them, I think actually my priest, had good tool use; the mage had natural mage (shocking, huh?); and my first fighter had elite warrior. I think that's it. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Posts: 322 | Registered: Monday, April 12 2004 07:00 |

And the scripting processing is probably the slowest part of the operation because it involves a fair bit of data manipulation that is performed by the engine finding critical strings and numbers in ASCII text, which takes a while. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. I've had similar problems occasionally in A2. I usually fixed it by picking up one stack and giving it back to my characters, at which point the game 'woke up' and merged them. Have you tried that? -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Posts: 322 | Registered: Monday, April 12 2004 07:00 |

In what way are you stuck so you can't get up top? Well, it's not that slow anyways. I've got a Mac 9600 (which is from '96) with a G3/400 upgrade card stuck in it and it runs fine for me. I saw something somewhere about the game checking to make sure your skills approximately match your level so that your level 1 fighter doesn't have 20 strength/dexterity/whatever. If that's what you're doing, just add experience too to level him up. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. Not because it's badly programmed (or at least not completely that) but because it has to turn textual commands (avernumscript) into computer commands. And he's asking for help because it's slower on a faster (presumably, anyway, with a higher clock speed) system. From the website, About Us page: quote:This is presumably the arrangement they buy all pictures under, so Jeff gets the rights to use the pictures however he wants to without paying royalties, and presumably (since they're non-royalty) the artist retains the rights to them too. TGM: Actually, phrasing it that way ("Andrew works for Jeff") is misleading...Andrew creates graphics and JV buys some of them, but Andrew isn't part of SW. And Cole, it says all that stuff about buying other folks' graphics in the instruction manuals (which I'd quote, except they aren't on this comp). -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were.
