I've an 800Mhz system on which BoA plays fine. I've a 900Mhz system on which BoA is just generally slow - pretty much everywhere, from normal movement, to hitting, to sounds, to death. Both have identical preferences. [ Thursday, June 10, 2004 03:53: Message edited by: Grey-Eyed Stranger ] -------------------- Apparently still annoying. Check and make sure that nothing is running in the backround because that can take away excess memory. Other than that, the 900mhz might just be more degraded than the other one thus making it run a bit slower too. (Although the degrading factor shouldn't affect gameplay that much...) -------------------- Austrian Alex Posts: 1307 | Registered: Tuesday, May 7 2002 07:00 |

There's about a half-second pause between each move outdoors on the 900Mhz. It still happens after terminating background processes. -------------------- Apparently still annoying. Posts: 612 | Registered: Saturday, October 13 2001 07:00 |

Have you tried opening the preferences and setting it on the fast speed setting? -------------------- -Zephyr Tempest, your personal entertainer Posts: 1779 | Registered: Monday, December 9 2002 08:00 |

What about sounds? Could the sound for the steps just take half a second to load and play each time...? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I just discovered Windows's Display Hardware Accelleration wasn't at it's top notch. I'll see how BoA performs now. Edit: Not sure how much of a difference it made. Seems a bit better now. BoA is slow because it's badly programmed Posts: 7 | Registered: Thursday, May 6 2004 07:00 |

Not because it's badly programmed (or at least not completely that) but because it has to turn textual commands (avernumscript) into computer commands. And he's asking for help because it's slower on a faster (presumably, anyway, with a higher clock speed) system. If it is slow because of scripting processing, then it *is* badly programmed. (Programming includes not only coding but also design ... bad design makes for more problems than bad coding) I rather doubt that. There are examples of bad design (if I put arbitrary limits like 'max 30 scenarios, if you want more just shuffle them manually' in any of my programs at uni, I would not pass that course until I removed them), but if it works on one computer and slows down on another similar computer ... -------------------- AKA xKiv : I/O,I/O, it's off to disk I go ... Well, it's not that slow anyways. I've got a Mac 9600 (which is from '96) with a G3/400 upgrade card stuck in it and it runs fine for me. And I don't have a clue what "you rather doubt." -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were. quote:Huh? Could you give that to us in longhand? And the scripting processing is probably the slowest part of the operation because it involves a fair bit of data manipulation that is performed by the engine finding critical strings and numbers in ASCII text, which takes a while. -------------------- There are two kinds of game players...those who are newbies, and those who were.
