The engine was seriously complaining (giving me negative HP and such) with level 12000 characters. A god party scenario worked decently well in BoE (Sir Psycho Sexy) but given the rather bugged nature of the upper levels of godlike power in BoA, I don't think it would work quite as well.

Besides, HLPM god parties are essentially invulnerable and one-hit virtually anything. Anything strong enough to damage them would have to be doing unblockable damage from a script, which would be no fun to fight, and anything strong enough to take more than one blow would have to have strong resistances to every form of damage, which is also no fun.

It's a utility. You can sort of have some fun in it. Hopefully you should be able to figure out where to get it...

It appears -- and I could very, very easily be wrong about this -- that the max level is at least 4500. I have no idea why that would be. I used the following code:

while (TRUE)
{award_party_xp(500,get_level(0) + 10); }

EDIT: No, it's even higher than that. I don't think hitting a maximum level will be an issue. :P

But the important thing is that those floating walls are fixable if you just drop the heights of the tiles that they're on.

Think about what space the walls on the right are actually on. For the editor screenshot you cut off the tiles on which the walls were actually placed, but I'm guessing (based on the other screenshot) that they're at level 8 rather than level 7. Drop those walls down by one.

Why are we even talking about non-SW games? All a true gamer really needs can be found in the demo of Galactic Core...

Also, I don't think Civ 3: Complete is out for Mac yet, based on this page.

Well, someone has to do this. We've been speculating for a while (here, for instance), and it turns out the new game after GF3 will in fact be A4. I base this on Jeff's comment in the BoA board:

Jeff, I (and I'm sure every other BoA player and designer feels the same way) am happy to hear that you will look at our list of bugs and consider our suggestions. The promise of a new version to fix these bugs gives me a great deal of hope for BoA's future. I look forward to seeing what you will do.

Am I just completely blind and out of it? What was the point of that post? Reviving a dead topic, no less. And don't tell anyone, but I don't own any of the Exiles, either.

That statement marks you as not a Blades player, Icshi. I think the same thing as you do about all of his other games. Prior to getting involved in Blades, I thought that Jeff was a pretty cool guy for making all these wonderful games. Now I'm a little more frustrated with him.

But I don't hate him the way that some others do.

For having chosen to support a small shareware company, we get the reward of being insulted personally rather than ignored entirely. Forgive me if I hardly see this as an improvement.

To some extent, I think the hostility towards Jeff can be a bit excessive, but it certainly is not entirely baseless.

The Lyceum is a pretty good source for this sort of information.

Jeff's description of BoA (from well before it came out)

Alcritas's response to his description

Is Jeff guilty of mail fraud?

Also, a quick comparison of SW's description of the status of bugs in BoE and their intentions vs. some Lyceum descriptions (1 2 3 -- and there are more) is instructive. Jeff's response and the community's response to him is also rather interesting.

Not to mention a more recent event, and of course, the link to Shyguy's sadness above.

Yes, the community's relationship with Spiderweb has always been, well, an interesting one. I don't think I'm going to encourage any of my friends to buy their games anymore.

EDIT: Bottom line, Jeff has been rather poor at supporting Blades of Exile, and many of the BoE players and designers are pretty irritated with him about that. That's the source of the majority of the hostility.

The most beaultiful city in The Avernum Trilogy

I had to think about this for a while. Going to Fort Spire was utterly breathtaking -- walking out into the middle of the chasm -- but the city itself was not great. I had a certain fondness for Dharmon and Patrick's Tower, and the Castle was nice, but I think Formello was the most beautiful. That water running through the middle of it really does it for me.

Arriving in Avit was a visually memorable experience. (Vahnatai look cool in 3D!) The Empire Archives -- ice floor -- was also visually memorable. Not sure about human lands in A2 -- maybe Dharmon or Formello again.

Lorelei was by far my favorite city in A3, but I think the most beautiful was... er... I don't remember them well enough. Fort Emergence was kind of nice.

Yeah, and that's far more detail in an answer to your question than you probably wanted to know. :P

Well, you could always try to get Micael to send you the current version of Undead Valley.

Alternatively, you could send them off to fight in the HLPM's Arena.

Or you could play DWtD again.

Or you could wait another... eh... not sure how long... until
Bahssikava comes out.

Uh, Micael, one would think you've been around long enough to know that mods only delete topics when some incredibly grievous violation of the CoC has occurred, and usually not even then -- usually they just edit the posts as necessary.

One would think so, but one would apparently be wrong.

I have to say, making a duplicate of A1's Lost Bahssikava in the BoA editor was tremendously instructive about town design. I didn't really get the concept of correct placement of walls until I did that.

That said, re-creating one three-level dungeon is completely different from re-creating dozens of outdoor sections and towns. After a certain point, it could get extraordinarily tedious and probably would not be very useful to anyone.

But I definitely did find it helpful to re-make LB. Take that as you will.
