Hmm. Tough call, but here's my preliminary split: 11 votes to Alec, probably the single candidate closest to me in policy. He'd do a damn fine job. And 14 votes to me. I would like to support Thuryl as well, but he doesn't appear to need my help. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. Perhaps he feels that the debate has run its course. You two have discussed quite a bit, and wasn't that the sole purpose of having a debate in the first place? I mean, I'm sure you were aware at the start of this that neither of you was going to change the other's mind, so the only point of this from the beginning was to flesh out the issue and have an in-depth discussion. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. It does strike me, though, that he's been guilty of quite a lot "worse" in the past. It's not as though he's been acting out in any particular fashion in recent times. Why ban him now after letting him do his thing for so long? It seems inconsistent to me. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. TR's my personal favorite, but FDR held sway in a time of far greater turmoil and uncertainty. The same goes for Lincoln. Alec's top four list sounds reasonable. I agree with his sentiments regarding Jackson, as well. He was a hugely adept politician who had an uncanny mastery over the passions of the common man, but his policies were suspect and frequently contradictory. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. Homeland is the worst, of course. We didn't need a poll to figure this one out. If this poll concerned only the Vogel originals, the results might be a bit more enlightening. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. There's a running debate taking place here regarding french fries as well, it seems. I remember enjoying Cracker Jacks in my childhood, but I haven't had them in a long time. I've explained the sequence of events that originally led me here many, many times. Anyway... I was exploring Download.com's games section around the summer of 2001 when I noticed Avernum 3 and decided to give it a try. I liked the demo very much, and proceeded to acquire the demo versions of A2, A1, GF2, and GF1. The first SW game I purchased was GF2, around the fall of 2003. I found these forums very much by accident while looking around for hints for GF2. The rest, of course, is history. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. About 60 voters, not sixty votes. There are only so many votes available to each voter as there are candidates in the election. I was forced to state that I had registered Lost Souls, as well. Unless White manages to drug me up on LSD and then put me in front of a computer, it's quite, quite unlikely that I'll ever consider registering any one of the RWGs. I've played through the Homeland demo on my dad's PC before, and found it to be not quite so bad as I had assumed. The graphics were ambitious, if somewhat shoddy, and the game music was almost interesting. Having a dog as a pack mule and fighting companion was an interesting touch. That said, the gameplay was phenominally horrible, especially in combat. To say that Homeland combat system is real-time combat at its worst would be an understatement. And accumulating money to purchase better equipment is a truly mind-numbing process, requiring the killing and skinning of countless hundreds of snakes in a massive orgy of mindless bloodletting. I've never played past the registration barrier, but I remember an old member, X, describe what he found after registering it out of curiosity. Unsurprisingly, he said the game continued in much the same vein for some time, and after allowing it to eat up several hours of his time, he finally ran into a bug that prevented him from finishing the game. A fitting conclusion to a deadly dull playing experience, it seems. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. I only bother with philosophical writings in which the author's message is clear as day. I tend to despise subtlety in writing, as I'm very poor at catching non-explicit statements. When I'm reading a philosophical or religious text I tend to analyze on the fly, accepting or rejecting statements as they come. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. It seems unlikely that we'll ever manage to get a significant number of candidates to attend a live chat at any particular time. We're just a bit too spread out over time zones, I suppose. That thread title doesn't seem at all fitting to the content of the post. An area's culture cannot be adequately described by simply discussing the nature of its currency and laws. You have to dig deeper than that. That said, I can describe the American currency system for those who are unfamiliar with it. In terms of bills, they are made out of specially formulated paper here, and are all a similar pale-green shade. The higher-value bills ($20 and up) are treated with special inks to create watermark effects and the like to stymie counterfeiters. In terms of the faces on the bills: $1: George Washington $2 (quite rare): Thomas Jefferson $5: Abraham Lincoln $10: Alexander Hamilton $20: Andrew Jackson $50: Ulysses S. Grant $100: Benjamin Franklin Bills larger than $100 are being phased out by the U.S. Treasury, I believe. It's rare to see a bill of larger value than $100. Where coins are concerned, I'm not sure of the exact metal composition of the different coins. Perhaps someone more well-versed can cover that information. The faces on coins: 1 cent (penny): Abraham Lincoln 5 cents (nickel): Thomas Jefferson 10 cents (dime): Franklin D. Roosevelt 25 cents (quarter): George Washington 50 cents (half-dollar): John F. Kennedy 1 dollar (silvery color, with distinct edges and sides): Susan B. Anthony, famed women's suffragist. 1 dollar (newer coin, golden color, larger, circular): Sacagewea, a historical Native American woman. There are also a few specialty coins. One that comes to mind is the Mercury Dime, an ordinary-sized dime with a portrait of the Greek God Hermes (winged helmet and all) instead of Roosevelt. I'll leave it to others to describe our voting system and governmental organization. I wouldn't bother with an Avernum movie. As has been mentioned, the games are too open-ended and meandering to translate well to screen without alterations.
