Alo, the harmonium is an age-old, respected instrument. That thing is a child's toy. :P

I suppose the harmonium is somewhat similar to the accordion, in that both have keys and bellows. However, the two instruments have very different tones- the harmonium produces a rich, stately sound, more akin to that of a pipe organ. Also, the harmonium is larger and heavier than the accordion, and as such can only be played while seated.

Actually, the harmonium has been used occasionally by rock bands. The Beatles used it in "The Word," with George Martin playing it himself, and a bunch of obscure psychedelic bands in the late sixties probably utilized it as well.

Ah, you're right, that line is unfortunate. I suppose only "Golden Slumbers" out of that medley actually has inspirational lyrics.

The difficulty lies in playing with two hands. When playing the harmonium, one uses his left hand to pump the bellows in the back of the instrument, and only plays with his right hand. After years of playing in this way, the fingers on my left hand are quite a bit less dextrous than those on my right.

The harmonium:

IMAGE(http://www.buckinghammusic.com/harmonium/hbmaa.jpg)

It's an instrument from North India. I learned North Indian classical music for six years, but I haven't bothered to practice for quite some time. The lessons also involved voice training, and I'm a pretty good singer. My voice is a rich bass, and although I once had a poor upper range I've expanded it nicely. Don't get to show it off too often, though. I've considered joining a band, but as the harmonium isn't quite a standard rock instrument it probably wouldn't work out.

In terms of inspirational music, ADoS, I suppose I could recommend a few tunes, although you've probably heard me mention some of these before. In alphabetical order by artist/band:

"Hold Your Head Up"- Argent

"Golden Slumbers," "Carry That Weight," and "The End"- The Beatles (part of the long medley at the end of the Abbey Road album)

"Feelin' Stronger Every Day"- Chicago

"Marrakesh Express"- Crosby, Stills and Nash

"Carry On"- Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

"Hold On"- John Lennon

"Carry On My Wayward Son"- Kansas

"Shangri-La"- The Kinks

"Coming Up"- Paul McCartney

"Bridge Over Troubled Water"- Simon & Garfunkel (I know you don't like 'em, but someone else might)

"Coloured Rain"- Traffic

"This Will Be Our Year"- The Zombies.

That's the short list. I suppose I could get a few more if I dredged through everything with a fine-toothed comb.

Most men would, you know. I wouldn't be too interested in keeping such a girl around on a regular basis, but strategic interaction once in a while would be just fine. :P Besides, airheads aren't the worst of the lot. It's only when an airhead also happens to be loud and obnoxious that the situation becomes untenable. Intelligent women can be trouble as well. They're more likely, for example, to bump their husbands off for insurance money, or successfully conceal an affair.

If you did happen to possess such an ambition, it would have been utterly satisfied after last year's World Series. I've always like them, but my affections took a hit when they managed to overcome their curse, with the Cubs still mired in theirs.

As for the Marlins, the Wayne Huizenga team was indeed a crass assemblage of big-money stars, and an example of the worst in baseball. However, Florida's more recent championship was won with a solid team, assembled legitimately and coached strongly by "Trader" Jack.

As for the salmon demise depicted in that picture, you have very little to fear at the moment. I'll be sure to inform you if "GRIZZLY R. BEAR" ever decides to register, though. :P

Thanks. I was looking for a picture of a bear holding a marlin, but I suppose that sort of wildlife encounter doesn't really occur in nature. So I settled for that less impressive fish, the salmon. "Go Fish," indeed. :P

TM is more than just his identity on these boards. His contributions to the community are many and frequent. Ash and Zeviz are notable exceptions, but the majority of those rushing to slam TM have probably never played through a significant number of his scenarios. He's not in the goddamn BoE Hall of Fame at the Lyceum for nothing, you know. If you're shallow and uptight enough to overlook his contributions and merely focus on his playful excesses around here, then I don't know what to say. I just hope that TM doesn't rise to all the bait being waved about when he returns.

This thread is intensely inane, but if I was a mod I wouldn't jump to lock it. Although the discussion has become disturbingly meat-o-philic (but I'm biased, of course) there's nothing awfully objectionable going on here. I'd just post a friendly reminder to the effect that spamming up the boards to increase post counts is discouraged around here, and as this appears to be largely a one-on-one discussion, that the two major participants might be better off taking the conversation onto AIM or the like.

I do wish he would make himself more accessible at times. But he's nowhere near as venomous as some seem to think. And his scenarios have depth and are genuinely interesting, if not always completely comprehensible.

And, as to Alo's camel analogy, that damn camel would have died a thousand times over before now if TM spamming up RWG was enough to break its sorry back. :P

That's quite debatable. Some would argue that the health risks involved in the abuse of marijuana are outweighed by the enjoyment the user gets out of it. The same can be argued for drinking, and many other potentially destructive habits. Of course, most people wisely choose to draw the line at some point. The consequences of abusing cocaine, for example, are considerably more dire than those of smoking weed or drinking.

I believe the "I don't care if I never get back" line means something along the lines of, "I don't care if I can never get back home, because the ballpark is such a great place." And, in terms of the lyrics, this is the only version that really counts: :P

Take me out to the ballgame,
Take me out to the crowd,
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back.
So let's root, root, root for the Cubbies,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes you're out,
At the old ballgame.

Some of these fakes are quite well-made, and difficult to differentiate from the real thing. Most of the time, though, those who aren't yet 21 just get older friends to make the alcohol purchase for them. Now that I'm finally 21, I'll probably be high in demand for such services once I get back to college.
