Saxophone. That's the only thing the orchestra misses. But sa sax doesn't really have part in Wagner. ;) i have a violon, and I once played on it, until it just broke. Now the violon lies in a case in about five pieces. the wood hasn't broken, just the plastic things for the head and strings. I need to get it repaired, but I'm to lazy to bring to a music shop. EDIT: violon? what was I thinking. Of course i mean violin. In french, le violon meanse the rape, doesn't it? I play piano, though I haven't practiced in about a month. When I pick that up and get back to peak performance, I'm moderately good. I used to play the violin, and the only electric violin I've ever seen was a six string monstrosity, which was having Voodoo Child played upon it. Quite a sight. I sing pretty well, and can read music. I also also play piano, guitar, and mandolin with a fair degree of mediocrity. Mostly this is because I never had the patience to practice much. I bought a bass guitar, but I gave it up. I'm just not dextrous enough. I have a good singing voice though, and I have pretty good range. I can sing falsetto and whatever the word for singing in a deep voice is. I can also drum simple beats on my desk, if that counts. The harmonium: It's an instrument from North India. I learned North Indian classical music for six years, but I haven't bothered to practice for quite some time. The lessons also involved voice training, and I'm a pretty good singer. My voice is a rich bass, and although I once had a poor upper range I've expanded it nicely. Don't get to show it off too often, though. I've considered joining a band, but as the harmonium isn't quite a standard rock instrument it probably wouldn't work out. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. You think you have problems, Stug? I play the recorder. Moderately well, if I do say so myself. —Alorael, who gets no respect for it and is consequently driven to militant recorder promotion and elitism. It's at least known on the far side of the pond. Blockflöte and flauta dolce don't have quite the bad reputation of the recorder. And while it can technically be called a flute, that always calls to mind the traverso and creates awkwardness. Oh, is the harmonium more like an accordian? Maybe you could play an accordian. They sound good in rock music, even though they're not used nearly as much as they should be. They Might Be Giants seem to be the only ones who use it. You know what instrument I don't hear much of? The oboe. Alo, the harmonium is an age-old, respected instrument. That thing is a child's toy. :P I suppose the harmonium is somewhat similar to the accordion, in that both have keys and bellows. However, the two instruments have very different tones- the harmonium produces a rich, stately sound, more akin to that of a pipe organ. Also, the harmonium is larger and heavier than the accordion, and as such can only be played while seated. Actually, the harmonium has been used occasionally by rock bands. The Beatles used it in "The Word," with George Martin playing it himself, and a bunch of obscure psychedelic bands in the late sixties probably utilized it as well. It's not an idiom. I mean it literally. At rock concerts, there are often pyrotechnics.
