Good point. I suppose I've just never heard one played well enough, then.

EDIT: I'm not a big fan of 70's brass rock (EW&F isn't bad but I can't stand BS&T), but some modern ska makes very good use of horns. This is a song by my friends' band, and I think it's a good example of that.

I'm not big on BST either, I just felt like I needed a third example. However, Chicago's work in the early seventies is absolutely golden, and I've never really heard horns used to better effect. I'm not big on ska, but I have heard bands like Reel Big Fish utilize horns fairly effectively.

Damn, there are more than a few people who only listen to classical music. I used to fancy that Aran was the only one. :P The closest I ever get to classical music is listening to progressive rock bands that utilized orchestration heavily, like Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Instrumental music just doesn't grab me, for whatever reason.

And I cordially detest vocals, so between us we probably comprise a full and well-rounded listener.

—Alorael, who will admit to listening to Windows Noises as well. He's not a discerning or discriminating connoussier, he's just picky.

You're not alone- UA's got much the same attitude with respect to vocals. I fully understand that people have vastly different tastes, but the human voice is an instrument of more versatility than almost any other. Do you really detest all forms of vocals, no matter the style, range, and pitch of the singer? And what is your opinion with regard to non-lyrical vocals? Just curious, is all.

Just as some people hate the accordion, I really don't like most vocals, with or without lyrics. There are some few pieces I like, and I somehow enjoy musical theater, but singing just isn't my thing.

—Alorael, who believes that his theater exception is much like his Tom Lehrer exception. When the lyrics are more important than the actual music, it's more like poetry with background noise and thus enjoyable. Singing for musical purposes might as well be violin played by the uncertified.

I suppose I just live for the human element in music, imperfections and all- but as long as humans are still playing the instruments, that can still be found, to some degree. You're certainly right that the human voice generally lacks the sheer range and precision of a man-made instrument. Such things matter more to some than to others. Matter of taste, I guess, as in so many other cases.

Piano, usually sit and practice the BGM from "Exile I - Escape from the Pit". It is darn finger-burning to play in the velocity it requires but heck, adrenalin rocks!

I downloaded October. It was okay, I guess, but it wasn't great.

What instrument plays the lowest pitch, and what music includes it?

Some pipe organs can produce notes as low as 16 Hz, which is essentially beyond the range of human hearing -- you "feel" most of the note and only hear the harmonics.
