Some articles on how we see things:

http://www.hhmi.org/senses/a110.html

http://www.theness.com/articles/believingisseeing-nejs0401.html

I remember learning in school long ago that we "see" with our brains, so what we might believe to be objective and unambiguous information might really be a lot of assumptions.

As far as legendary quests go, I'd recommend going after Pachter's Plate Mail. It's a lot easier than the Black Halberd quest and you also get Arcane Shield at level 3 in another area of the dungeon. I believe you need to enter the library in Gale to learn the location of this dungeon, and to have it appear once you get there. Some dungeons don't become accessible until you have done some background research.

Do you have a cleric who knows mass healing, preferably at level 3?

That helps a lot. Find level 3 of this spell downstairs from the NE corner of the giants cave. You need good rune reading ability.

There's an Ichor Coated Shield in a heavily guarded room in the Bandit Hideout south of the westernmost town. It protects against sickness. Not a great item, but somewhat enhanced.

The Chitin Armor you get by killing the platebug queen has the same protection ability.

If you can kill the Demon in the School of magic, you get a Strength Bracelet.

I believe you need lockpicking ability around 10 to open the Vahnati chest to steal the fine waveblade. They don't mind you stealing it.

I was disappointed by the Dark Wyrms I summoned; they just stood there and didn't do anything. If they had fought my enemies as hard as they fought me they'd be great.

The Mung Demon worked fairly well. I'd just as soon rely on the Arcane Summon spell and let whatever comes up work for me.

You have to get permission to visit Empress Prazac to proceed to Footracer Province and the endgame. She will allow you to visit her if you complete either the slime or roach quest AND either the troglo-giant tunnel barrier or golem quest. You only have to complete two plague elimination quests.

(I recommend doing the roach quest even if you don't have to because the mayor of Shayder gives you a ring with excellent resistances, which is a much better reward than the gold you get for completing the slime quest. Just a personal preference.)

You need to ask one of the Vahnatai to give you the crystal of power. You need this in the end game.

Also, while you visit the Vahnatai I recommend unlocking the chest (need tool use level 10) and stealing the fine waveblade. This is the best melee weapon in the scenario that I could find, and the V don't mind you taking it.

I believe the pants of power in VoDT are in a cabinet in a room guarded by two mines. But I forget what area of the School of magery the room is in.

I thought an effective 4 character party (for VoDT) was a stock archer with all 8 free skill points assigned to priest spells, human (for fast leveling up), and nimble fingers (doubles your tool use stats). The other three are human custom characters with natural mage (so they can wear armor). Give them all 5 levels of mage spells, 2 levels of priest spells, add a couple levels of intelligence and luck, put the rest of the points in hardiness and defense.

Right from the start all your characters can cast heal, cure and war blessing. The magic users can each cast ice lances on 3 opponents. As you level up add luck to the archer and another level of priest spells to the mages so they can learn repel spirit, which comes in handy for targeting multiple undead instead of relying on the single shot fireball spell. Boost defense and hardiness for everyone. Eventually steal the fine waveblade from the Vahnatai. (They won't mind) The waveblade comes in very handy if you want to fight the demon, and also against altered beasts, whcih you have to fight. So pump up melee skill for the archer as you go along.

You can cast some spells on Bruning, such as heal and cure and maybe haste and war blessing. Select the spell you want and hit 5.

Very interesting singleton, Gavinfox. I like the ranged attack with unlimited ammo and 50 damage points, even if you only get one shot per turn. I'd suggest a couple levels of priest skills soon, so you can cast heal, cure and war blessing.

ok, so i found Pangle, payed for some papers, dunno wheather he gave them to me or not, i just payed for them, killed the hYdras for him, and now i found this big tower, i think it was called main control or someting, found the room with 3 controls, but i can't activate any of them, so...what do i do now??

You need to get the papers from one of Pangle's storage sheds. The papers are in a chest. The demo walkthrough explains the rest.

I remember near the end there's a scene where Empress Prazac asks one of her wizards to rescue your party from the Great Hall of Rentar-Ihrno as it implodes. Don't recall seeing a wizard when you first meet the Empress, but maybe he's there and I just forgot...

You could create a new party and give one of the characters that trait, then look at their special abilities by clicking on the hand symbol and reading the explanations of the symbols. Or you could just select "info" for any of your characters, then select the character trait you are interested in and it will give you a general description.

"National Velvet" - I cried when my mom made me leave the theater because I didn't want to leave Elizabeth Taylor.

"Shane" - one of the best western movies ever, about character and fate.

"M" - In German with English subtitles, starring Peter Lorre as a serial killer of little girls whom the police can't catch, so they pressure the Hamburg mob to help. (A true story brought to film)

"Rashomon" - Japanese with subtitles. Medieval rape and robbery, seen from three points of view.

"Marty" - About family and peer pressure, and being true to oneself.

In the School of magery student quarters the walkthrough map shows hidden rooms in the NW area and the SW area. After walking into walls all over the place I can't reach either one of them.

What did I miss?

Mac or PC? in General
Shock Trooper

Just speaking from personal observation, at various jobs I've worked with PCs and Windows operating systems for about 15 years. There's always something going wrong that requires a team of IT people to fix or maintain the PC.

At home I've had a Mac for a little over ten years. I plugged it into the wall and it just works. The Mac operating systems are much more user-friendly, IMO.

A friend told me once she thought there were two types of people who use computers: "process people" who are interested in how the computer works, and "content people" who are interested in other things besides computers and just use the computer to help them do something that interests them. I think Mac users tend to be "content people".

I accept that the controversy over which is better is never going to end.

Suicide in General

When I was 14 I thought about stealing one of my stepfather's guns and shooting him and my mom and going off robbing gas stations until someone shot me. I decided I didn't want to hurt people (including myself) badly enough to do that, so I didn't do it. But I felt totally an outsider in everything and trusted no one. My goal became to drink enough so I didn't care what was going on around me, and the thought of doing this at night made me able to face the day. It was a poor coping strategy, but it's what I learned.

Once my mom walked into the living room with a loaded shotgun and announced she was going to kill herself. I got the gun away from her and hid the shells. It surprised me that I could do anything like that.

Much later in life I learned self-acceptance with a lot of help from many people and now I can face the day with optimism instead of alcohol. Because a lot of people helped me, I don't hate and distrust everyone as I once did. When I hear of someone killing themselves, I can easily imagine it being me when I was younger.

If you got Erika's amulet and she doesn't appear when you enter Rentar's great hall, then you made a mistake with the buttons in the basement. If you don't have a saved game that takes you back to the point where you start with the basement buttons, you can reset the buttons from Rentar's control panel by pressing the top left button. You will have to endure being teleported away from the control panel about five times before you can reach it. After you do that, I suggest saving the game and labelling it "Rentar's buttons" so you don't have to deal with all the teleporting if you make a mistake again.
