It also depends on what you want it for. If you're mostly going to use it to run old DOS applications, DOSBox is excellent.

I take I'm going to have to hold off on having signs in Linear B in my BoA scenario set on ancient Crete? :P

Yep. I guess you'll just have to redesign your scenario to make it more non-Linear.

Yes, it's fine. As long as you don't go nuts and put hundreds of separate items in the same area, they shouldn't disappear.

Jeff, if you do decide to add support for Dvorak keyboards, you might as well add support for European keyboard layouts like AZERTY and QWERTZ while you're at it (although you'll only need to add support for QWERTZ if you ever use Y or Z as a hotkey in any of your games). Judging by the composition of the forums, you have quite a few customers in Europe.

Ah, I remember that topic now that you've brought it to my attention. Thanks for the link. It seems like a neat idea, but ugly to implement in practice for most scenarios.

(Then again, most of the best ideas are ugly to implement in practice for most scenarios. The trick is to have an idea good enough that it's worth building a scenario to accommodate it.)

Easy. Same-sex intercourse is adultery (or, strictly speaking, fornication) because people of the same sex can't get married, and they can't get married because... well, that's where you have to turn to the other passages, isn't it? :P

You'll also have to think very carefully about how to make the special item take the party to another town in the first place; the only way to directly send a party to another town is a Stairway node, and you can't call a Stairway node with a special item.

One way is to use the Word of Recall/Variable Town Entry method used in Shadow of the Stranger, but doing it this way means the item can only be used outdoors and requires a party member with 7th-level priest spells. On the bright side, making it usable only outdoors eliminates the problem of sending the party back to the correct place in the town they came from.

I believe that it's possible to get an aranea through summoning spells if you're lucky.

If you fail a job, you won't be given any more jobs for a pretty long time (about a month, I think). There's no other penalty. Jobs aren't that important anyway.

The balance between trying to avoid hits and trying to survive damage also depends on what difficulty you're playing on. On Normal, making enemies miss you all the time is a viable strategy if you pump the right skills (Defense, Dexterity, Gymnastics) enough. On Torment, enemies will pretty much hit you fairly often no matter what, so you may as well focus on surviving when they do hit you.

By the way, if you're having problems surviving attacks, putting more than a few skill points in Hardiness is a waste -- each point reduces damage by 1%, which isn't really much at all. It's better to raise Endurance so you have more HP, or raise your Defense and Dexterity to at least 6 so you can qualify to train in Parry (which is one of the best defensive skills in the game.)

Money isn't that tight later in the game. As long as you don't buy extra levels of spells (which aren't really very useful), you should have more than enough money for training.

SMOKED?
Only when set on fire. This is now at least the third time I've used that exact joke on these forums; I'll start thinking of original answers when people start thinking of original questions.
GOTTEN DRUNK?
Do I even need to answer this?
STOLE YOUR FRIEND'S BF/GF?
No.
PLAYED SPIN THE BOTTLE?
No.
GONE SWIMMING IN A WHITE T-SHIRT?
I am not in the habit of wearing a shirt whilst swimming.
BEEN TO A NUDE BEACH?
I've never seen a beach that was wearing clothes...
BEEN CHEATED ON?
I'd be very surprised to learn that I had been.
BEEN WALKED IN ON WHILE YOU WERE DRESSING?
Yes. I was a vinaigrette at the time. (Boom tish.)
BOUGHT SOMETHING WAY TOO EXPENSIVE?
No.
PLAYED STRIP ANYTHING?
No comment. ^_^
PUNCHED YOUR PARENT?
Not as far as I recall.
GONE TO SLEEP NAKED?
A few times.
RAN AWAY FROM HOME?
I threatened to at the age of 4 or so, but didn't actually get past the front garden, so I don't think it counts.
WORE YOUR PAJAMAS IN PUBLIC?
Well, I've worn them outdoors, at any rate.
DANCED IN YOUR UNDERWEAR IN FRONT OF SOMEONE?
No.
MADE UP A FAKE IDENTITY WHEN YOU MET SOMEONE?
At the age of about 12, I gave a false name to a drunk on a bus. It seemed the safest way to get out of the conversation.
BEEN IN LOVE?
Yes.
GOTTEN A HICKEY?
No, but I've given one.
SLEPT IN A BED WITH A MEMBER OF THE SAME SEX /OPPOSITE SEX?
Yes to one of the above.
HATED THE WAY YOU LOOK?
Hated? Nah. But some days I look in the mirror and I don't recognise myself.
CRIED YOURSELF TO SLEEP?
No.
DONE SOMETHING YOU TOLD YOURSELF YOU WOULDN'T DO?
I'm still here, aren't I?
SUNG IN THE SHOWER?
If you can call what I do "singing".
BEEN TOO SCARED TO WATCH A SCARY MOVIE ALONE?
No.
LAUGHED SO HARD THAT YOU CRIED?
No, but I've cried so hard that I laughed.
FORGOTTEN SOMEONE'S NAME?
All the time. I still don't know the names of some of the people I've been working with all year.
CRIED OVER SOMEONE?
Yes.
SKIPPED SCHOOL?
No, but I've exaggerated illness to get a day (or a week) off.
GOTTEN EXPELLED FROM SCHOOL?
No.
DONE DRUGS?
Nothing illegal.
GOTTEN A TICKET?
Only parking.
GOTTEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT?
Yes. Not serious.
SCREAMED IN A LIBRARY?
No.
ASKED SOMEONE OUT?
Sort of.
BEEN ON A PLANE?
Yes.
BEEN OUT OF THE COUNTRY?
No, but I've been overseas. Figure that one out.
PASSED OUT?
Yes. Funnily enough, none were alcohol-related; I have low blood pressure and am slightly prone to fainting.
BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL?
Not since I was very young.
HAD SURGERY?
Yes: dental and foot. (Not for the same illness.)
PLAYED A TERRIBLE PRANK ON SOMEONE?
Not as far as I recall.
MOCKED SOMEONE?
Moi?
FAILED A CLASS ON PURPOSE?
No.
SEEN A GHOST?
No, but I've seen a Belgian.
CRIED IN PUBLIC?
No comment. >_<
BEEN HIT BY A PARENT?
Yes, but not recently.
ATE DOG/CAT FOOD?
I'm tempted to go and eat some right now just so I can answer "yes" to this question.
WALKED INTO A WALL AND/OR DOOR?
The doorknob to my bedroom hits me in the side as I walk out of the room far, far more often than it should.

So showing a mere interest in surrounding events is worth sometimes, IMO.
Oh, now I get it. You're opposed to same-sex marriage because it'll encourage persecution of gays.

You're even more of a loon than I thought.

As a result, there probably won't be too many riddles in any of his future games.

Yes, there really does need to be full documentation of the reserved variable names somewhere. "shop" is already mentioned in SW's tech support page, but there are definitely others.

To be more precise, you need to visit at least 4 different towns to get a town to reset.

Or you can just use the character editor's Make Towns Forget You option while outside of the lair.

Nobel's intention seems to have specifically been to reward progress which improved the human condition, hence the prize being awarded for medicine rather than biology.

Your comment does give me an excuse to furnish you with another fun fact, though. Legend has it that there's no Nobel Prize in mathematics because Nobel's wife ran off with a mathematician. It's probably untrue, but it makes a good story.

Someone else may want the guy to stop doing what he loves.
If you don't pay attention to your neighbour now, it will be too late when he sneaks upon your dog's crap suddenly one day, so you won't be able to clear it yourself. So you will be accused of, firstly, for not clearing after your dog, and secondly, for intoxicating your neighbour if something happens to him. Did I answer your question? :P :)

Edit: some detalisation

... so, if I may make a stab at deciphering the analogy, you're saying that gay marriage is bad because it will encourage gay people to sexually assault you and those close to you?

Okay, your name's going in my loon file now.
