quote:Yep, it's pointless to raise Parry above 18. A Guardian (which is the class most likely to get Parry to that level) can afford to take a hit every once in a while, especially when 3/4 of attacks that would otherwise hit aren't doing any damage at all. quote:You don't make the roll. So your total chance to deflect or parry a missile attack is only 75% -- which still isn't bad. I'm not a huge fan of A4 either, but it did indeed sell, in Jeff's words, "like hotcakes." Incidentally, the Geneforge series apparently doesn't sell nearly as well as the Avernum series. This came as something of a surprise to me. In fact, Jeff wrote a whole article on how he often avoids trying new things because every time he tries something new he loses sales. Flavor of donut: cinnamon Spell circle in Nethergate: War Nationality of jumping bean: Italian Animal to keep as a pet: parrot Goal in life: to die. I like to set goals I know I'll eventually achieve. By the way, I count 4 references to different SNES RPGs in your profile (Earthbound, FF5, BoF2, ALttP). Did I miss any? -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Sounds like a corrupted download to me. Have you tried redownloading? (Make sure you're downloading the Mac version, obviously.) quote:It's pretty simple, really. Ever hear older people complain about how all their friends are getting married and now they feel left out because all the married people only hang around with other married people? There are plenty of people who marry so they can feel superior to unmarried people. The more people are allowed to get married, the fewer people they can feel superior to (and the more all those lovely tax concessions married people enjoy have to be shared around). quote:Am I that bad at explaining myself to a lay audience? :( [ Wednesday, June 21, 2006 05:39: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Find the Avernum 3 Prefs file and delete it. Note that if you registered the game, this will unregister it, so you may have to email Spiderweb Software to request a new registration code. (There's no extra fee, as long as you remember the name and address you registered under.) -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! I'd have loved Annwn if it weren't for all the spectral warriors. Nethergate's combat got pretty repetitive by the end. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

You probably missed a panel. The golems really shouldn't be too tough, though; just have a fighter with high Parry hold them off. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

By the way, what version of the game are you playing? Older versions had a bug which allowed you to skip the part of the plot that made Almaria friendly, by getting the Crystal Box before receiving permission to pass through Fort Emerald. If you triggered this bug, you can still finish the game, but Almaria will remain hostile forever. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! No, nothing wrong with your sig. More senior members get away with all kinds of things that they really shouldn't, so I'm not entirely sure why ADOS felt the need to be a dick toward you in particular. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! You can buy registration codes for most games online; the exceptions are Nethergate and Blades of Exile, which are normally available only on CD. However, if you email Spiderweb Software and explain your situation, they'll be quite willing to provide a secure download location for the full version of Nethergate/BoE after you've paid your fee. As for which games I'd recommend, well, Blades of Exile deserves special mention. It comes with a scenario editor allowing players to create their own adventures, and about 300 scenarios have been made. Some individual scenarios rival entire SW games in size and quality. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

That's not anywhere near the Honeycomb. I do actually vaguely recall a chasm somewhere in that area. Wasn't there a crumbling tower or something next to it, with a lair of basilisks in it? -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! No. If you do the math and are scrupulously careful to account for the influence of every magnet on every other, you'll find that the forces on each magnet will balance out to zero. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! As a bare minimum, I make a hand-drawn map of every town and dungeon with notes on it describing important people, places and events. It doesn't have to be completely precise, and you don't need to worry about things like character numbers or SDFs until you actually start designing. but it should be enough that you know where everything is in relation to everything else. You don't necessarily need to have every town designed before you start designing the scenario, but you should know what you're going to put in a town before you start on that town. Nothing sucks more than having to redesign an entire town because you realise one house needs an extra room and you haven't left any space for it.
