I've never played Exile II, but my assumption is that you can only play those scenarios with Blades of Exile.

Actually, this is a cosmetic bug in BoE. BoE claims to be Exile II under some circumstances.

But yeah, the actual problem is that you're not supposed to open a scenario as if it were a saved game.

Today's name, Tonsillectomy, may come as a bit of a surprise to forumgoers, since people still routinely have their tonsils taken out. And while I'm not necessarily going to suggest banning it, it's a controversial procedure within the medical community, and there's no doubt that it was widely overused in the past.

It's not all that long ago that a sore throat, especially in a child, was a good enough indication to take their tonsils out. And, like any operation, there were risks; occasionally, things went wrong and patients died. The clinical indications for performing a tonsillectomy have been sharply restricted in recent years, and some medical practitioners are seriously questioning whether tonsillectomy is ever indicated except in very rare cases. Nowadays, tonsils are only routinely removed if they are so swollen that a patient has difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Back on Aceron's board I went by a different name. That's why TM occasionally calls me LRTDeM.

It's possible to do over 200 damage on a single target with one spell, if the target is 2x2 in size and not resistant to magic. Cast Death Arrows, and target all 4 squares that the monster occupies. Result: all 4 arrows hit it for about 50 damage each.

Thuryl, after all, isn't even the name I was given at birth (or, indeed, the first name I used in the SW community). It's just the name I've been known by in this community for longest. :P

Admittedly, that's happened to me precisely once in my Exile-playing history, and that was in BoE.

In fact, sulfuric acid is the most important industrial chemical, in terms of sheer amount produced per year. It's mainly used in the manufacture of other products such as phosphate fertilisers, petroleum derivatives and various sulfate salts of metals.

You can do that, but if you make a space blocked in the editor there's no way to unblock it again if you need to (at least according to the documentation, which I admittedly wouldn't trust as far as I could throw).

Selathni's the town you started the scenario in.

That's where you put the papers, though, not where you get them. The papers themselves are in an abandoned Empire fort; head north and slightly west from Selathni and you'll find it.

Something else which will produce one of the most corrosive acids on earth, is mixing sulphuric acid with hydrochloric acid. In Dutch its called "Kings water." I don't know how you call it in English.
You're probably thinking of "aqua regia", which is actually made by mixing nitric and hydrochloric acid. I don't know whether you could make something similar from sulfuric and hydrochloric acid; it's been too long since I did chemistry.

Anyway, today's name, Salisbury Steak, is a kind of ground beef steak recommended by the late-19th-century physician James Salisbury. Dr Atkins had nothing on this guy; Salisbury believed all vegetables, fruits and starchy foods were harmful to the health and should be limited to a small fraction of the diet. His dietary recommendations included meat, meat, and meat, especially beef, with plenty of water and some coffee for variety. His recommendation for a meat-based diet didn't catch on, but Salisbury steak remains a part of our language, and a popular and tasty dish... in moderation.

(Whew. 12 minutes to spare.)

Distilled water certainly does have the capacity to osmotically rupture cells if you inject it into your bloodstream. So don't do that. But drinking enough water to disrupt your body's osmotic balance is extremely difficult -- you'd have to drink more than 20 litres in a day. Water intoxication generally only occurs in unusual circumstances, such as when a dehydrated person drinks a very large volume of water in a short time.

Specific spell immunity in Blades of Avernum Editor

Note that Simulacrums always use the default script of their creature type as defined in the data script, so if for some reason you don't want to give a creature the Special monster type, another way to disable Simulacrum is to give the creature type a null-monster script by default, but give every actual instance of the creature a custom script. When a player tries to cast Simulacrum on it, it'll inherit the default script from the scenario data script instead of the custom script, and they'll summon a living doorstop.

EDIT: Wait, Niemand already said that. I'm a fool. :(

EDIT 2: On closer inspection, my solution is actually subtly different from Niemand's. Niemand's is possibly simpler, but mine might be useful if (for some reason) you wanted a creature that can be charmed but not Simulacrumed.

I'm not sure what you think isn't real about this community. We're all real people (allegations of certain members being Turing machines notwithstanding) who are really communicating with each other.

If you liked Castle of the Winds, you may enjoy other Roguelikes such as Nethack, Angband or even ADOM. If you want something that plays a little more like a traditional RPG, I suppose you could try Realmz, although be forewarned that it's buggy and awkward.

All of the effects of Luck besides lucking out are pretty minor. Not dying when you otherwise would is a pretty big advantage, though. It's not as good as it was in Exile, where 5-10 points of Luck made you virtually invincible, but it's still worth putting a few points in.

Anatomy lets you do a little extra damage against humanoid monsters, like nephilim, sliths, ogres, or Empire soldiers.
