A4's plot is basically a continuation of the plot of Avernum 3. If you disliked A3, then A4 may not be your style either. You can always try out the demo and see what you think, though.

There's another way in. Have you finished the quest in the tunnels west of Fort Remote yet? You'll be sent to do the Spire mission after that.

He does. Also, it's spelled "Alorael". He gets mighty touchy about that.

Drakey also told us that the spoiler wouldn't be the villains in Avernum 4. Forgive me if I have my doubts about his information.

Even more so if you've killed the shades, since the point at which you see the stone circle is exactly when the crystal fragments from the shades start playing up. For a moment there, I was honestly expecting to have to fight all 3 shades at once.

Jeff did occasionally accept pre-orders from BoE/A scenario contest winners who were entitled to a free game and wanted one that hadn't yet been released, but that's a special case.

There's some ridiculously high Nature Lore requirement to get Heartseeker, the best bow in the game. Even 22 total Nature Lore in my party wasn't enough; I'm guessing the requirement is probably around 25. Fortunately, you don't need that much for any other caches in the game, and the bow's right near the end, so you can wait a while before getting Nature Lore that high.

FIne Slith Spear, not so fine? in Avernum 4

You mean, of course, 1-3x8. Fine slith spears are 1-4x6 (plus 1-4 per level of Strength, Pole Weapons or Blademaster, of course).

Apart from the ones upstairs in Giscard's storehouse, there are a couple of bottles in Giscard's house as well, if you haven't looted it already. Also, wine sellers sell Gremlin Wine; there's one southeast of Formello, one in the Great Cave near Almaria, and a couple in other places.

Or you can just kill the gremlin. That counts as successfully completing the quest too.

It should be relatively easy to do a find/replace through all the scripts to change every instance of run_dialog(0) to run_dialog(1).

Jeff deliberately set up a major subplot in Avernum 4 so as to require a new Avernum game for its resolution. The good news (at least for Jeff) is that this means Jeff gets to sell another game in the Avernum series. The bad news is that we already know what it's going to be about.

Hint: the image's filename includes the phrase "captured German soldiers".

Was there a name at that picture?

Click on it, bring up a contextual menu and choose View Image. Observe the image's URL in your browser's address bar.

The filename also includes "May 2", if that date means anything to you.

I clicked 'Save As', and the filename was 'untitled', not 'captured German soldiers'.

That's why I didn't tell you to click Save As.

This link points straight to the image. Note the URL. Do you believe me now?

Oh, and the maintainers of all of the other thousands of Wikis on the web would really appreciate it if you didn't call Wikipedia "Wiki".

(I swear, I'm not just doing this to further enlarge the quote pyramid. Really.)

No -- other titles of non-deleted members (specifically, TGM) contain specially-formatted characters that don't carry over correctly either. It's because everything within CODE tags is interpreted literally instead of being converted to what it represents.

You can always come back after killing the shade and get the mission then. The reward is only 300 coins and a bit of experience.

You're right. One quest (to find the island) is from Marshall in West Cotra, and the other (to find evidence of the sea monsters being there) is from Ruth in Silvar. You can only get the quest from Ruth when the shade isn't in town.

Question: which (if any) is displayed on screen?

The number displayed for your armour in the character info screen is simply the sum of all the percentages. Which means that having a displayed armor value of something ludicrous like 108 is actually somewhat misleading, since you'll still only be blocking most of the damage rather than all of it.

At a certain point somebody discovers a second dimension. paralel to the Avernum world, but linked with portals. In that second dimension everything is tuined. Everything if filthy. People are ill and dying. before things will be settled in your won world, you should fix the problems in the second dimension. That is something that always intruiged me.
There's a BoE scenario called The Nature of Evil which touches on these themes. Well, sort of.

As far as I can recall, the only quest involving that island was to find the way to get there.

The town the party's being sent into looks like a small town, judging by the automap.

Well, change the coordinates to somewhere else relatively nearby within the same town, or knock down a few walls to create a bit more space, and see if that works. BoA's party-placement code is picky sometimes.
