In celebration of the New Year and in protest of the base 10 number system's imperalist grip on our perceptions, I will make a celebratory post containing scenes of 1945 of my current count. See if you can identify their significance:

Maybe you know why some slith eyes were once red - ´cause the demons, which led them were red.

But why are the eyes of the Slith Lord Followers red? Because they see the remains of their enemies always before the battle begins!

Happy New Year!

Is the first one Soviets taking over Berlin, or Americans taking over Paris?

I thought that too, but was that tank doesn't look Russian... I'm not sure. And wasn't Berlin already occupied by '45?

I dunno - my post-WW2 history is a little bad. We do everything between them at college, not the effects.

I was unaware that 1945 was so special in base 10. But congratulations anyway. It is an accomplishment.

Congrats, *i !

Now we just need to make a topic called "Reality". Then the boards would be caught in a contradiction of epic proportions.

Hehe.

The second one looks like a funeral for an American soldier.

It was occupied during 1945, by the Soviets after quite a bit of fighting (much to the dismay of the U.S. and U.K., who didn't want communists to have it). It was in May, I think, but if not in that month then somewhat before.

Maybe it's German soldiers surrendering?

I thought I'd implied that pretty strongly already. Are my posts invisible or something? :P

Hmmm... you know, I wonder if it has anything to do with, like, Nazi Germany or something...

American, yes. Soldier... not exactly. Sailor, sort of. One of the greatest leaders this country has ever had, definitely.

Was there a name at that picture? anyway, it does fit with what I said earlier: the white flag.

Click on it, bring up a contextual menu and choose View Image. Observe the image's URL in your browser's address bar.

The filename also includes "May 2", if that date means anything to you.

EDIT: Woooo! Quote ziggurat!

I clicked 'Save As', and the filename was 'untitled', not 'captured German soldiers'.

EDIT: Wikipedia says: The Soviet Union announces the capture of Berlin (second May, 1945).

That's why I didn't tell you to click Save As.

This link points straight to the image. Note the URL. Do you believe me now?

Oh, and the maintainers of all of the other thousands of Wikis on the web would really appreciate it if you didn't call Wikipedia "Wiki".

(I swear, I'm not just doing this to further enlarge the quote pyramid. Really.)

As for terminology, Wiki is the concept, MediaWiki a software implementation, Wikimedia a foundation, and Wikipedia the name of the encyclopedia website. :)
