I have been playing Geneforge. I tried playing Avernum 3 for a short time but just couldn't get into it.

My questions is - is Avernum 4 a hack n' slash style RPG or is there an interesting plot to move you along. I enjoyed the Geneforge plots, even though they seem to peter out towards the end of the game.

A4's plot is basically a continuation of the plot of Avernum 3. If you disliked A3, then A4 may not be your style either. You can always try out the demo and see what you think, though.

A4 has significantly more plot than G3, if that's a helpful comparison.
