Ah, well, it's not that simple, is it? You've inadvertently touched on one of the philosophical problems of intentionality -- namely, in what sense can statements refer to the idea of an object, regardless of whether that object actually exists? When we say, for example, "A unicorn has one horn", there is a sense in which what we say is obviously false, since unicorns don't exist. But there is also a sense in which what we say is obviously true, since by definition a unicorn has one horn.

There's also that bit in Geneforge 1 where you can bluff a group of servile bandits by threatening to dissolve their arms and legs. The dialogue mentions that this is a feat only very advanced Shapers would be capable of.

This young lady had not by any chance recently immigrated from Ukraine, had she? If so, better get yourself tested for dioxin exposure.

What, you'd rather the Kurdish genocide had continued for longer so that the US could have done something about it?

Wouldn't it be more convenient to just read the scripts to find out what Arcane Lore total is required for each spellbook?

Are you going to post that fanfic here? I'm sure there are people who would be interested in seeing it.

You need to have a reputation for opposing servile independence. Basically, go around telling serviles that they should obey you. Once you've talked to enough people, ask to join again.

Same Graphics? in Avernum 4

Well, Jeff Vogel has to hire an artist whenever he wants new graphics made, and that's expensive. If you're playing the Avernum series at all, you're presumably playing for plot and/or gameplay, not fancy new graphics.

Avernum 4 does have completely reworked graphics, though.

Unlock Doors doesn't work on traps, though, so you still need Tool Use for that. That still doesn't justify making a thief who isn't also a mage, though. Oh well.

Huh. You're right. I just created two characters identical except that one had Elite Warrior and one didn't, and the Elite Warrior had a carrying capacity 16 lb higher than the other guy (82 lb vs 66 lb). That's equivalent to a difference of 2 points of Strength.

Wait a minute. Are the character with all the Tool Use and the character casting Unlock Doors the same character? If they're not, the benefits don't stack. Just thought I'd clarify that, if you didn't know already.

EDIT: Behind the door is a spellbook of Enduring Armour. Pretty useful if you don't already have the spell, pretty useless if you do.

You can always just send a handmade card instead. Makes you seem thoughtful and costs nothing except your time. Expensive gifts are for the lazy and uncreative.

If you're enjoying it that much, it may not count as foreplay any more.
