[GF2] Questions about training, powergaming factions and Shapers in general. in Geneforge Series

Is it possible to strike a balance between being able to do damage with my main character and my creations?
If you need help, there are several creations that you can have travel with you (if you have enough leadership). You can't control them, which is annoying, but they don't cost you any essence and may be useful. You should have access to the vicious roamer imprisoned by the servile cultists, a servile in the Magus Complex, and a swamp rat somewhere in the swamp by now.

quote:
Also, does anyone recall the Mechanics/Leadership point 'progression' they used? I believe you want to have 6 Leadership and 8 Mechanics ASAP... eventually getting 10 in both (probably with the help of the Inifltraotr Vest you find pretty early)?
I think I went up to 10 in leadership and 12 or 13 in mechanics as fast as possible and then ignored them for the rest of the game. I didn't bother too much with infiltrator gear.

My problems with the Shaper class aside, I've been struggling with Trainers in GF2. Namely, if you gain a point in a skill as a quest reward the trainer can train you that much less... Does this also apply to manually raising your own skills? If so, what's the point of Barzite or Taker trainers since it'd take quite a headache to avoid raising your skills while waiting to get to them? I think I'm really missing something as far as Trainers are concerned. Take Learned Guas for one - he's in one of the hardest areas in the game and he'd be quite useless to me since I would have gotten training or quest rewards in the skills he teaches before making it to him?
Trainers are rather icky in G2. You can only train twice in any skill, but the game counts using a canister, reading a book, getting a quest reward, or using skill points as getting trained. I ignore all of the stat trainers but the melee trainer in Medab. Sometimes I can buy a skill or two off a later trainer, but I never plan on it. The real thing to watch out for is creations. Don't using canisters that give you create creation skills until you've trained in them if you want to make the improved version of them.

quote:
I guess my main concerns are twofold: Would I be able to be upfront about terminating my connection to Awakened through the dialouge option with their leader and how much of an impact would being augmented have on my endstory?
I don't think the Awakened will go hostile if you terminate your alliance by talking to Learned Pinner, although I think the Takers and Barzites will go hostile if your terminate your alliance with them.

I assume that being augmented is counted as if you used a few canisters, but I've never actually checked the script, so I don't actually know. However, I'm almost positive you can only be augmented once.

All memes are ideas. But they are ideas with special properties of propagation and a propensity to skew one's perception of reality. Gaining freedom from such memes does not lead to the elimination of ideas. Freedom in this case is the ability to perceive reality as it really is, without the influence of the lenses of our own memeplexes.
So, would "Do not murder" be a meme, since it is prolific, influences behavior, and alters people's perceptions?

If it isn't, then why isn't it?

And if it is, then do you really advocate its destruction?

UBB doesn't like certain symbols (not necessarily parentheses) in links. That's the only time Dikiyoba ever recalls seeing it. If not, maybe your post is getting too long. Who knows?

FF had a bit (in the second really long post, perhaps?), but I don't remember offhand exactly what it all was. Edit: Nothing too critical, though.

But it was acceptable for Ceylon since it was correct advice that the original poster didn't know. You calling attention to it, however, is far less appreciated.

Anyway, how exactly are you a "thief" in Avernum?
A character with high tool use for opening doors and disarming traps can be considered a thief.

Presumably, a thief also takes everything valuable that's not nailed down as well. :P

They're customizable in the sense that you can train in whatever you want after your character is created, but there's no option for a custom class like in Avernum. You have to choose to be one of the five classes, and that determines starting skills, skill point costs, and the formulas for health, energy, and essence.

By saying "They decided the outcome of the battle between Seoth and Geltor a long time ago", I meant that they made sure to tip the balance in Seoth's favor through some small, seemingly insignificant and inconsequential action before the battle ever took place. Quite frankly, anyone with half a brain and knowledge of Geltor could see that he was going to go on a rampage eventually.
Okay, understood. That's the line that worried me. Except, why even mention them there at all? If there was an IC reason for it, I missed it. And if it's only in OoC, why make things unnecessarily complicated?

I'm actually kind of sorry to hear that, Nioca. The mortals percieve deities like the ones we play as infallible, but we know from the actions of our deities and of the deities around us that they aren't, and there's a lot to explore with that. How do you respond and what do you do when you have to fake your infallibility, or when you realize that other gods around you may not be working towards a greater good? But to have a higher set of deities who are infallible and have ensured that everything is working as it should ruins that exploration.

Don't get me wrong; I want you to have those higher gods. But I don't want them to be infallible. Perhaps "they" and the white-haired woman are wrong to prevent low-level gods and mortals having access to that energy storing technology. Maybe while your character is struggling to figure out what is going on, "they" are too. As I read it, the blockade-deity didn't seem like it knew exactly what it was doing all the time either. Just my opinion.

Oh, and with a hierarchy comprising mortals, demigods and angels and who knows what else, and at least three levels of deities, it's no wonder that Burrard is such a powerful and enduring god. :P

What style of obnoxious harassment would work best? Begging? Belittling and insults? Making you feel guilty? Acting super excited about it? Threats? Bribes? Bumping this thread up every day? Constant annoying reminders that never let up? Finding out where you live, showing up unexpectedly, and chaining you to your chair until it's done?

Automatic Hint Pop Ups in Avernum 4
Councilor

Maybe you need those automatic popups after all. :P

More seriously, A4 is very different than previous Avernums and is much more similar to the first three Geneforges. You need 5 action points to attack. Being slowed or being encumbered because you're carrying too much weight will reduce your action points.

If it's too frustrating to enjoy, then don't play it. Replay an earlier Avernum. Grab Blades of Avernum (and if you are on a Mac, Nethergate: Resurrection) if you haven't already. Geneforge 4 has several improvements over A4, so see if you like it. Finally, judging by what little we know, A5 will probably be a lot easier to work with and more fun to play than A4.

Mainly, it prevents you from entering the vahnatai's portal back to Avernum. It also prevents you from exploring from some vahnatai lands.

If you use the character editor to get back to Avernum, you can only explore a few sections beyond where the barriers used to be and can't enter any towns.

You haven't opened the door to the second canister, right? If you have the quest, have the ring, and have turned in the first one, then that's the only thing I can think of that would mess it up.

Why would Miranda be dead if the Shapers won?

Anyway, Dikiyoba places Dikiyoba's bets on the Trakovite ending being the closest to G5's setting, since it allows for a stalemate between rebels and Shapers, keeps enough people left alive to form a decent Trakovite sect, and gets the PC from G4 conveniently out of the way.

Looks like you may be out of luck, since it is Sick Boy who gives you the tip about Judith when you give him some coins. I doubt that it's affected by time.

The holly berries can be found by searching twin berry bushes. Look at the read-me to see what they and the other alchemical plants look like, because you will need them to beat this scenario.

You should see the peak about the same time you reach the hot springs and find the firewood. If you haven't done those yet, then there is a stepping stone path across the river.

I'm beginning to doubt that he even plays Spiderweb games...

Edit: Or rather, that he has, but keeps complaining about other games so often it sounds like he doesn't play Spiderweb games.
