Dikiyoba wonders how many topics get made per year about Alorael. Probably more topics than he creates in a year. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Originally by Micro Phage: quote:See, that's one reason I like A4 less than some other games. What I remember about the other Avernums is getting in the way with A4. I compare the plot, the skills, and the interface and decide that I like the old Avernums better because I'm more familiar with them. If it were a completely new series, I would have adjusted to it quite easily and been perfectly happy with it. Another little issue I have with A4 is the difficulty I have in role-playing. In three out of the four games I bought, my characters naturally have personality. (My characters in BoA don't. At least, not until the scenario gives it to them). In A4, the characters are just numbers wrapped in a graphics sheet. However, upon realizing this, Dikiyoba decided to try A4 again, and concentrate more on giving those lifeless characters personality. Dikiyoba shall see where it leads... No, I think they show up sooner than that. For instance, there is one quest on the job board at Fort Monastery that doesn't appear until after you complete one of the earlier job board quests. But it's been a while, so Dikiyoba could be misremembering. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Originally by Marlenny: quote:I said that already. Although I just looked it up and his name is Tyne, and his mother is Igner. Originally by Little Billy Sue: quote:I liked the children in A2 a lot as well. They are some of my favorite NPCs, despite the fact that they rarely provide anything of importance. And I know there's an option to kill a bunch of slith children in the Secret Slith hideout, even though your characters feel guilty about it afterwards. But Geneforge and Avernum are different. In Avernum, you are the good guys, so you aren't supposed to run around killing whole towns. If you decide to do that, it's your call, and good luck if you screw up the game. In Geneforge, you decide who the "good guys" are and wiping out towns of enemy factions is a legitimate tactic, so I understand not having children showing up very often in Geneforge. But please, Jeff, children in A5! Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Yep. I think it's hard to miss. Originally by *i: quote:Well, I like to read away from the computer sometimes. However, I'm not living a continent away. And a pdf can be updated to a newer version should a major error or a huge number of minor ones be found. Dikiyoba. Edit: Typo. If people are going to argue for and make laws and regulations with that belief in mind (and not take human nature into account), they might as well stop being somewhat sneaky about it and declare their intent openly. Enough with the "Oh no, we can't teach kids about birth control in school. It would encourage the wrong behavior!" sort of stuff. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

You'd have to change the graphic files. Save the graphics you want to replace somewhere safe and then save the graphics you want in the Data folder under the same name as the graphic you were replacing. Be warned that this is untested and unsupported territory, so I don't know whether it would work perfectly or screw everything up. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

But the wise, experienced serviles have always had a good record of surviving in rogue infested areas. Some of them provide explanations for why they can survive unmolested. Unfortunately, Dikiyoba can't remember any specifics, only that the intelligent creations respect the serviles for their wisdom and the unintelligent creations don't see them as a threat. It probably has to do with how long the apprentice Shaper has been training (and therefore how much they know). After all, Greta knows very little about how to actually shape creations. Litalia, however, was almost finished with her apprenticeship before she tried to kill her master. At that point, she can't just be dumped back into non-Shaper society. She knows too much about Shaping. Her attempted assassination has to be forgiven (and Shaper dogma re-emphasized until her concern for creations is squashed) or she has to be killed. Dikiyoba. Originally by Kryten: quote:She/he also shows up in G2. And I think there's a child in Zhass-Uss as well. Originally by Mr. Bookworm: quote:Hey, it's possible, provided that the monster AI is still dumb, the fyora is yours to control, the soggy leaf of lettuce is placed on a smooth floor, and the five year old is unnaturally precocious (as all five year olds in these situations are) and so has the capabilities of a fully-trained Agent. All you have to do is send the fyora out on scouting missions. When it runs into an enemy patrol, the patrol will chase after it (or better yet, call for help so that all the patrols in the area can chase after it). Then the fyora runs back to where the soggy leaf of lettuce is with the patrol following. Some of the patrol members will slip and fall after stepping on the soggy leaf of lettuce, thus preventing them from acting for several rounds. Then you and the five year old blast the patrol apart with powerful spells. (The fyora will be spitting fire at the patrol as well, but it probably won't do much damage.) Repeat until Shaper resistance crumbles, go kill the Shaper leaders, and the rebels have won the war! They'd have an awfully hard time maintaining control, though. Dikiyoba. I think it's people with a good natural ability to shape and the determination/work ethic to develop that ability. All three games emphasize the hard work the character has done so far in the intro text. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Now you will have to pardon my sending of a report after the official version is released. (I couldn't avoid noticing a very tiny bug and a few more typos.) Dikiyoba wonders how these new typos manage to creep into new versions. Do the few surviving typos reproduce? Is it spontaneous generation? Or do the typo gnomes add them in when no one is watching? Act 8, Scenes 2, 3, and 4. This update isn't as soon as I had hoped it would be, but now it's three scenes as opposed to just two. And the script has now been visited over 1000 times. Good work, everyone. Dikiyoba is sure that Nikki will find Scene 4 very memorable. :P Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

I don't play anything besides computer games, and I don't play a lot of those. Besides Spiderweb Software, I like Maxis for SimAnt, SimCopter, and the Streets of SimCity. Dikiyoba used to play a few games by The Learning Company, but Dikiyoba is too old for those games now. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

I don't worry about fulfilling quests for this part of the game. Instead, I concentrate on exploring, and many of the quests just end up getting done along way. I usually have lots of loot after the vahnatai lands, so I tend to explore outdoor areas from the Tower of Magi to Formello as soon as possible. Then I go back and explore all the dungeons and towns in those areas. Dikiyoba does the Giant Fortress relatively soon as well, but Dikiyoba doesn't remember what level Dikiyoba's party is at when Dikiyoba does it.
