Huh. I never thought about using summoned creatures before. I used the enter-end combat thing in Nethergate, but I could never get it to work in the Avernum games.

That may be true, but after installed all the Spiderweb games, I copied all the directories to a CD for backup purposes. My complete collection of all the games available for Windows takes up a little less than 500 MB, which fits just fine on a CD with room for a few more games.

Interestingly enough, it seems more people see both Drakey and Stareye as the bad cop than the good cop.

Very true. In fact, I have the opposite problem. With Nethergate and Avernum 1, I have problems moving only one space with the mouse, no matter what I set the speed at. The keyboard works fine, but I prefer the mouse. I know it has to do with my newer and faster computer (2.5 GHz Athlon with 1280 MB of RAM) because I had no troubles with my old 200 MHz P1 with 48 MB of RAM. I suppose it could have to do with XP over 98, but i doubt it.

EDIT: I don't have these problems with Avernums 2 and 3, which I attribute to the fact that these games are newer.

It seems to me that there are quite a few of those inaccessible rooms throughout the Avernum Trilogy (and a few in Nethergate if I remember correctly). Some of them, like the area behind the Vahnatai temple in A2 were accessible in Exile, but not in Avernum. The question is, did Jeff do this deliberately to annoy us and have us waste time trying to enter a room that can't be entered, or are these mistakes?

Does anyone know what is in the hidden room in the southwestern corner of Dharmon and/or how to get in? I can see it when I cast Far Sight, but I can't get in.

I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but since it concerns two seperate games, I wasn't sure where to put it.

I just bought BoE. I'm more of an Avernum fan, but the sheer number of scenarios called to me. What annoys me a whole lot is that I had to get it on CD. Why is this? I don't mean why can't you get a registration code for the game, although that is an interesting question as well. I'm talking about why I have to pay to have it shipped to me. Right after I ordered it, I got an email with a link to Spiderweb's FTP, where I could download the full version. Why couldn't I just buy that link and not have to pay to get the CD shipped? It was the exact same way with Nethergate. I got an email as soon as I ordered it as well. it makes no sense that Jeff doesn't make the CD optional like with all his registration code games. I mean, how is downloading the full game off the FTP any different from downloading the demo and then inputting the code?

Yeah, old headquarters of nefarious characters do seem to have a predilection for being used for the same purpose by different nefarious characters, don't they?

If you're really curious about it, you could always email Jeff about it. I'm sure he'd respond.

With enough finagling, you can get pretty much any old PC game to work in XP. Just make sure that all the .exe and .bat files are in Win 95 or 98 compatability mode.

EDIT: .com files don't need compatability mode. I was thinking of .bat

It's been quite a while since I last played A1 (over 3 years, I think), so I'm a little rusty. Does anyone know what's behind this gate and how to get past it?

EDIT: Yes, I know that my party is way overpowered. I'm just running through the game with an overskilled party for fun and to prepare for the Windows release of A4

I know a lot of people bash it as being not as good as Baldur's Gate, but Neverwinter Nights is an awesome RPG. Also, if you like the older Final Fantasies, you might want to check out WildArms and WildArms 2 for the original Playstation, WildArms 3 for PS2 is good too, but nothing beats 1 & 2.
