I think a "view at your own risk" warning is quite sufficient. If you feel really strongly about it, Poit, feel free to censor it yourself. It's on the Ermarian ftp after all. Anyone can edit it.

As most of you are probably aware, there was a BoA design chat over AIM today. I have saved a log of that chat, and it is available here. I do not have the entire log because I lost my connection, but I do have the first 8 hours. When I lost my connection, there were only a couple people still online. I'm sure if you're really curious, TM, Kel, or Thuryl can tell you what they talked about after the log ends.

While it may be a dual-core chip, it's not really all that fast. I would never go under 2 GHz. I can finally talk about and understand Macintosh processor specs now that they're going Intel. Even though they should be using AMD chips, which are much better than Intel in my opinion.

They all have good parts, but A2 has the best plot. A1 was really good too, but the lack of a quest list and no right-click look makes it annoying.

Interplay has been basically gone now for over a year, which is very sad because this means Fallout 3 and the expansion to Icewind Dale 2 will never be released.

Bioware, the company that made the engines for Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights (not to mention the plot and design of NWN) decided after Throne of Bhaal and Icewind Dale 2 came out that the Infinity Engine (the engine used for both Baldur's Gates and both Icewind Dales) was starting to show its age and needed to come up with something new. After lots and lots of work, they came up with the Aurora Engine (the engine used for NWN). Aurora is the next step from Infinity, and I believe I read somewhere that Baldur's Gate 3 will be made with the Aurora Engine. That is what I meant by NWN being the sequel to Baldur's Gate from a software point of view. Obviously, the games are very different. Personally, I prefer NWN, but I'll always have a fondness in my heart for Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

quote:
The only thing Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate have in common is (A)D&D, and not even the same version of it.
I'm pretty sure that had nothing to do with Bioware. I think Wizards of the Coast told them to use 3rd edition rules. Wizards can be very controlling about their licenses.

By the way, when Black Isle Studios died with Interplay, a lot of the designers of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale were hired by Bioware. In fact, I believe that many of the original BG crew are now working on NWN 2.

Actually, all cats can purr, so the fact that the Nephilim can purr doesn't really prove anything. The fact that a roaring Nephil has never been encountered (correct me if I'm wrong) says a lot more than their purr. I would think that if Nephilim could roar, they would do so during battle and that the game would comment on this.

Does anyone actually use IPX anymore? I know it was populare in the mid-90s, but I thought that IP had taken over as the standard.

The story very solidly and loudly terminated with the end of BG2: ToB. Any continuation to the series is a mindless attempt to milk the chain for all it's worth in money.
From a software standpoint, Neverwinter Nights was Baldur's Gate 3. It was a different story, but the software and engine were the logical next step.

Upgrading to SP2 can really screw up a lot of stuff, but a clean install of SP2 is a good thing. It does have a lot of nice features, like autoupdate, redesigned wireless connection wizard, built-in firewall (even though a 3rd-party firewall like zone alarm is a lot better), and a lot of patches for security holes.

As much as I love this discussion of the etymology of my name, I feel the need to point out that it came about one night after consuming copious amounts of caffeine. I sat down to play Baldur's Gate for the first time and decided that I needed to come up with a cool name for my character. After a few minutes of brain-racking, I got Tyranicus, and have used it for every RPG since.

Aran, (Have I been here long enough to address you as Aran? I'm not quite sure of my message board etiquette.)while Tyranicus may not be a proper medieval name, it's certainly a lot closer than any l33tspeak name. Also, I wasn't going for a traditional medieval name. I was going for the kind of name you encounter in an epic fantasy novel, and I think Tyranicus fits that criterion just fine.

You obviously are not counting most people on RPG's.

That annoys me so much! I hate it when I'm playing a game like Everquest or World of Warcraft and meet someone named 1337 4V3N63R. I mean, this is a medieval setting, no mother is going to name her child that! Make up something awesome, like Tyranicus.
