Hmm... it is an... intriguing proposition. With time and money you could perform an experiment to answer this question. Trouble is that people all have their own in-built innate predjudices and judgements, meaning that you could never draw a definite conclusion.

It is technically possible. There has been a noticable increase of apathy in the general population in the last few decades. Also people do seem to use racist comments more freely. This does correspond with a growing attitude of "one person can't make a difference", and a growing ability to seemingly "mentally absolve" governmental sins. The population seems to have a shorter memory for government f ups.

Add this to a trend of nationalist, xenophobic governments coming to power in western countries...

Hmm... it does seem to add up... but personally I would prefer something other than theory and possible coincedences.

BTW, your comment of bringing "innovation and empiricism" to Asia is incorrect in certain cases. China for one. They had printing presses, gunpowder and all sorts of other things that were no more than crude versions of what we, four millenia later, use everyday.

We aren't the only country that uses "pounds" but most of the other have something else in the name. We ARE the only ones to write it as a plain £.

The reasons against are best expounded by John Wadham, director of Liberty. (An organisation in Britain which protect civil liberties) http://www.urban75.org/legal/id.html

Other websites such as the Home Office, the BBC or the Government ones can give more information. But do bear in mind that most of the information will be fairly biased. Especially on the Beeb.

As for the new childrens bill. I must confess that I only know outlines due to having heard it off of a friend of mine who is going to the next march in London to protest agianst it. Oh well.

I just heard of a government scheme. The controversial "ID cards" are to go on a pilot scheme next week and are to be compulsory in far less than a decade.

Not only do you have to give all sorts of personal information, have fingerprints and retina scans taken, carry it at all times, but you have to PAY £20 to get one ontop of those aswell. Anyone who cannot produce one upon request can be arrested.

It is an invasion of privacy, an infraction of civil liberties AND contravenes human rights. Information is gathered on you which you aren't legally allowed to see.

IN ADDITION, they are putting forth a new childrens bill which reduces our rights and allows files to be kept which anyone EXCEPT the child to see it.

RUDDY ASS-RAPING PANTALOONS ANONYMOUS!!!

Rollocks to that is what I say! Damnable governmental wimpish liars! GRARGH!

I never said that the car was this-year, in fact it was a second hand Suzuki, G reg. A tree fell on his last one (quite literally). Nor does a mortgage mean new house. My parents aren't that old. It's got about eight years on it. (Meaning I'd be 23 when they paid it off.)

Wealth is realitve so I'll make no comment on it between me and the average uni student (who over here is about to pay £3000 a year JUST for tuition fees). I will however say this, I am too honest to be rich, too poor to be an eccentric, too stupid to be novel and am without guidance to use my life. Bleh, feh, meh.

Blood and sand. All that humanity will find.

Not really, only my dad works at the mo, my mum's off due to some weirdass lung problem. They don't know wtf it is, so she's not in work. Nor is likely to be for a long time at this rate. There's the mortgage at a stupid interest rate (which they point blank refuse to change to another provider) and all sorts of blooming pants-on-a-stick to sort, along with they just got my brother a new car, meaning more outlay. It tends to add up, especially when none of them has a practical bone in their body.

Oh well. Dang family.

Except I've never read the Telegraph. Nor do I know anything of the base origins of his work. Thanks for shattering a misconception (not sure if that's sarcasm or not myself).

Even Shakespeare was supposed to have stolen his work. Off of a playwright who "died" in the same boarding house as him. Only rumours abound all sorts, like the "dead" man actually was going to be murdered in revenge for something, yadda yadda, went into hiding, sold plays for a cut. Rumours abound with every user of the English language. You can't open your mouth or even begin to write something without the cry of "Plaguerism!" going up.

But it doesn't matter. It was written. And whomever it is attributed to, it was good work.

And I still don't read the Telegraph.

Or ANY newspaper for that matter.

Milton was an extremely good wordsmith. He knew his craft to a tee. Even over a century later poets like Wordsworth would mention him in their work. And Paradise Lost is certainly, not just one of the most famous pieces of English works, but a masterpiece without doubt.

Watch your back Kel, I'll get there first. Though it would appear that Alorael is going to have to sit and take his Postliness, like it or not.

Lots o' shooting and stuff... hmm... Leon or Ronin. Both involve shooting lots of stuff.

Violent films don't have a huge effect on me. They're not real. Horror movies I just laugh at. I mean, come on! Some of them are just so ridiculous. Films like Predator, Mimic and Komodo had no practical sense of realism.

I prefer a movie with an elegance to it. Something which not only leaves a mark but makes you think that whoever wrote it actually put some concious thought into it.

Still got to respect the original The Italian Job. Double diamond, top qual.

I like quite a few things mentioned so far but I do think that Beethoven's 9th needs a mention, as does Tchaikovsky's 1812 William Tell Overture. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is quite good too. Some JS Strauss would also be worth a mention.

I may not be able to play an instrument to save my life but at least I'll always have crazy hallucinations.

"OOWIE! OOWIE! ARGH!"

"There, teach you that will."

McRalph shuffled swiftly away to avoid another confrontation. Turning down the corridor to the lounge he was suddenly thrown off his feet. "%$£^£!!" Swearing copiously he got to his feet just in time for another tremor to topple him again. "£%%"%%"$£ "$£$"$"%$ £%£%£%£&^^!!!!!"

Getting up for a third time he decided that he REALLY needed to get to the bathroom or otherwise that janitor was, most likely, going to try and kick whatever else remained of his stomach contents not just out of him, but all the way across the inside of the MicroSpider as well.

He just managed to get the bathroom just in time to empty his stomach. As he stood before the mirror afterwards, splashing his face with water, Mcralph had two thoughts, "Silly pilot find I must to what that was find out. And te- Was that the janitor trying to shove TOILET PAPER down a man's throat as I came in? Holy guac-" With extreme swiftness he started to run for the door.

Okey I get it now Immy.

UA: You didn't say that in this topic and this is what has easily throw people. If you sound as if you classify everyone as stupid, while refusing to accept yourself as such, then people get a little irate.

Why childish? A child is merely someone who is younger and (generally) smaller than an adult. A child can easily know more than an adult, be more sensible and more objective, yet when someone is being stupid we classify it as "childish". Personally, being a minor I find the term derogatory and offensive as I am taller and broader than any person in my town. I am also a fair bit smarter than the average adult, and act a heck of a lot more sensibly. It confuses.
Je suis un muir.

If you didn't want anyone's opinion, then why did you bring this up in the first place? Why didn't you just ignore it? You can't stop people having an opinion. It's part of being human. And it really is your own fault for taking offence. Oh well.

You know it by now. But for y'all: Bleh, feh, meh. Rantalicious. At half rant.

Living in the past? in General

Whole point is that the stuff that happened in the past that doesn't look good generally gets forgotten over time. The recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq will likely soon be forgotten. The same is true about the past in general. If going back in time to say the 60's or 70's looks good because it seems that people had more fun then and nowadays people are just apathetic. Then just think. They don't mention that living then was just as much a pain as living now. That people were just as oppressed. And while all the hippies you see depicted nowadays are free living, free love and all that, remember in reality following that path would mean very different things. Not to mention your hygiene probably wouldn't be up to much.

Me? I liked several decades for several reasons: the 90's for all the Old Skool music, the 60's for the fashion (talking about it, much akin to all of the stuff you see nowadays), the 20's just because they look FUN. In reality, they would all be just as much a pain as now.

Same goes for movies. We see iconic movies of then, but never see the failiures. Living now, we see them all.

Also, I think that quite a bit of Sandler and Carrey is funny, former more so than latter. But some of it is just really lame. Lem in fact. Lemmer than Lemsip.
