*sigh*... quote:With the magnitude you're describing, it would kill everybody. Those who lived would quickly starve. quote:So you want the entire cave system to collapse? Everything would die. The continents above Avernum would drop down a few feet, disrupting surface life. If the cave floors are falling all the way down to Vahnatai lands already, they'll have enough momentum to crush any undiscovered caves below. It would destroy everything, not just supplies. quote:No. Just no. If they've got tons upon tons of cave rock falling on them, they'll be dead before they can fight each other. And why would they start fighting one another? quote:... But they'll all be dead. I really want this thread to die. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. quote:I'm against RTS in Avernum, and I'm against this too. Because the game had to switch to "townlessness", a lot of the game space wound up being empty or filler (or so it seemed after killing the hundredth cave bat). Either of those alternatives would make the vast majority of the game space feel empty. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." That, and townspeople would just start running from you after a while. Dialogue would be cut short by NPCs slinking away... I can see it now: PC: "Hi, you're cute!" X: "Erm... I must go find an anvil." PC: "Hi, I'm Spider!" King Micah: "Uh... that's nice. Spider, these are my guards." PC: "Hi, wanna be my mate?" Garzahd: "I would, but I must be going. Demons to summon, wars to wage... you know, that sort of thing. You're very cute, though." -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Swamp folk have only appeared in A Small Rebellion, seem to be incapable of communication with other species, and have a degree of magical skill. I'm not sure, but they might technically be of the creature type Plant. That said, they got my vote. Everything else was useless. And if we allow undead or demons as races, we might as well get the name changed to World of Ermarian. (play on World of Warcraft, for those who have no idea what I'm talking about) (And we get it, you like foxes and wolves...) -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." quote:I believe the politically correct term is Anthropomorphic Reptile. But anyway, it makes sense that the Avatars would be Anthropomorphic Reptiles instead of undead or demons, since they need to retain their flame-resistance (since zombies are famously flammable). That, and if they're incarnations of heroes, I'd think that they could resist a little wimpy Repel Spirit anyway. That could make a case for them being demons, though, so that only level 3 affects them... But I'm analyzing it too much. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Yeah, as far as item values have gone for the Avernum series, getting extra AP is one of the most expensive abilities. Thus, it makes sense that a +1 AP item with no drawback would be way more expensive than something that just offered some cheap Quick Action points. That said, if the Assassin's Shield gave Quick Strike points, the value would be greater, but still not as high as the Bulwark's guaranteed extra AP. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." quote:I'd like to object to this part. When it comes to the deeply-buried stuff, I'd much rather talk with somebody who I know well, rather than a group of near-strangers. I agree that relative anonymity makes it easier to be yourself, but there's just a point at which things get convoluted or painful enough that you're only willing to get into them with someone you trust. And as for the uncalled-for Plato reference... I feel like I'm here, and that's good enough for me. End of speculation, on with the show. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. You know, maybe the "Bleagh" at the end of the post denoted sarcasm... in fact, the post just sounds somewhere between mildly tongue-in-cheek and blatantly cynical. Okay, at least the revival makes sense. But I think that this topic could've just faded away, and nobody would've had to think of it again, misunderstanding or no. And seriously, we've had much more offensive stuff posted here than that. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. Am I the only one here who thinks that this kind of thing spoils the fun of the game? EDIT: The thought of not training an archer in Bows until halfway through the game (and just so you can get a few measly points extra) is just intolerable. Ah, you need mithril. If I remember correctly, then you need to go look over by the Inn of Blades. Somewhere around there, there's an outdoor encounter by a massive granite spire, and you can get your mithril there. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Here's the way to find the safe path: Walk slowly. Whenever you see a pylon at the very edge of your field of vision, stop. They can't attack you until you take another step toward them. As for an initial point in the right direction, start off with the far west route (this is from the extreme SW corner of the caves), then cut across to the far east of the tunnels once you hit a pylon. You should come to four tunnels, check each for pylons with the method described above. You'll get there eventually. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice.
