Requiem, a warrior-singleton given maxed luck by the editor. He had no resistance to bind though. He fought a binding Eyebeast using that binding ray thing. After being blasted down to 0 health, Requiem never died because of his luck, and since you can't stop the game mid-battle, I had to restart my computer after letting it go for 6 hours (I was away.) The moral of this story is if you're going to edit one stat to max, edit all of them. (That was way back when I didn't even know how to use control alt delete.) On the one hand, if you do shrink the images then they'll lose quality. On the other hand, cropping them will leave you with less image. There isn't a right or wrong choice here, but my opinion would be to shrink and fix-up the images. I work with smaller graphics like this, and I think they'll be much better off in this sense. My reason for thinking this is that even with the original quality of the actual A5 graphics, it'll be lacking in 2 regards. 1. The connecting panels would be incomplete or awkwardly spaced, thus meaning you'd have to either crop the images to make a 2:3 ratio, or edit the graphics to make them look like they fit. This won't be that big of a deal, but it may sacrifice the same quality you were trying to keep. 2. The images won't be the same size as their surrounding images. Because a square in Avernum 5 is larger than a BoA square, you'd either have to make the background squares bigger, or make the image appear to fit if you're keeping the same scale of the tiles. If not, you may have certain places that may be the same amount of pixels, but still appear to be bigger, have different quality, or just seem out of place. It's a worthwhile endeavor if you really like A5's graphics. It's always nice to have a few new tilesets. Good luck with whichever you pick, neither are going to be that difficult or easy. Hmm. All of those plates and no silverware? (I guess you could say that there are knives.) I was actually quite surprised that I took such a liking to Avernum 5 despite not really liking Avernum 4. I'd say that I'm definitely going to consider getting it when I beat the demo a few times. I'm a conservative. Can you see why I'm depressed this election? Our only strong candidate swindled his way into being the front runner and plays the dirtiest politics on either side of the aisle. He also took all of Guilliani's liberal winner-takes-all states (what could be less democratic than unequal representation in select parts of the country that specifically benefit one candidate?) McCain has stubbornly opposed almost every bill Bush has proposed, not because they were good or bad ideas, but because he lost the primary to him and did it out of spite. McCain also passed legislation to make it difficult for poor candidates to run because they needed private funding(Dirty move 1, and might I say how impressively Huckabee handled this), he slandered his main competition(Romney) in Florida with total farces right before the election with no chance for Romney to defend himself(Dirty move 2). He also pulled the West Virginia "vote for Huckabee" move (Dirty move 3). If McCain gets elected, then the Republican party (which I've already stopped affiliating myself with) is as good as destroyed. If McCain gets into office, he'll just do whatever he feels like doing. Any and all promises he made for when he gets into office will only be kept if it benefits him. McCain is not a conservative or a republican. He's a McCainian. Hmm, sorry about the rant. I don't know if you want to call it a bash, or just my hating dirty politics. Maybe I should rephrase that, all politics are dirty, but McCain eats the stuff like a fat kid eats ice cream. Anyway, I'm not even sure there was ever a good candidate for me, but I'd say that since the economy is one of my bigger issues, I'd have voted for Romney. It all depends. In my opinion though, the best demo is Avernum 2. It is the emotionally charged "defend your homeland" story with a good deal of plot twists and quests to keep your hunger satiated until you finally choose to buy it. That and of course its original version, Exile 2. Nethergate is also great, and you don't have to worry about catching up on the plot from other game series. Blades of Avernum is rather useless as a demo, but the full version is of course, unlimited hours of fun. I'm not a big fan of the geneforge engine, so I won't endorse or unendorse the games that use that engine, you'll have to see if you like them yourself. I tried deleting the prefs, and then I reinstalled and deleted the prefs again which unregistered me (as I assumed it would from your instructions.) Reinstalled again overriding the prefs created from said test and the application was registered. Rebooted and it was still registered. (At this point I assumed that one reboot wasn't sufficient enough) rebooted again, and it's still registered. Well, it might happen again, but let's hope not. Anyway, if this fixes it for a reasonable amount of reboots, I'll be much better off than otherwise. Thanks for the assistance, we can assume this problem is fixed. The Problem: Occasionally after I reboot my old iMac I find that my copy of Avernum 2 (Version 1.0.2) has magically become unregistered. My Temporary Solutions: I do step ii and reinstall it, it works again, but keeps unregistering. Needless to say this can be a pain in the neck, especially since I can't figure out why it's doing it. I've installed it on my Windows computers several times without this problem ever occurring. I'm just curious if anyone's had this problem before with a potential solution for me. If any other information is needed from me, I should be here to respond. If this problem should be disregarded because it can indeed be fixed each time it happens, then that's also fine. As a note: I recall this happened once before this week for Avernum 1, I may be wrong, and it isn't giving me trouble at the moment. quote:Well, the second post was made within a minute of Jeff's, so the person didn't know that Jeff had posted yet. I personally would like to see just a few more spells. (60) When you think of 40, sure that's plenty, but you have to divide it evenly between mages and priests. What I propose is either make another class of spellcasting, or seperate spellcasting into individual groups. Think about it, if a priest can summon a host of shades, why couldn't that priest summon a warg? In reverse, if a mage can summon several demons, why can't he summon a shade? You could branch spellcasting into four groups: Status, Summoning, Damage, and Healing. Status spells would have haste, slow, bless, etc. Summoning would have summon beast, summon shade, etc. Damage spells, healing spells, so fourth. Thinking in terms of customization, that let's you choose what you want your mage to be specialized in. I have often found it difficult to get a mage up to the required levels for spells because of the cost of raising mage levels, and this could provide an easier way to reach the particular spells I want to cast. Also, think about it in relation to weaponry. If you choose to boost your melee weapon skills, it won't help you hit with a spear or a bow. If you improve your summoning like that, it wouldn't help you to increase your healing power. Also, since Avernum is becoming more like Geneforge, there could be an expensive Magic Craft skill that costs about 14-16 skill points, and boosts all four aspects. Well, you could become a bad person yourself, and not care about what's right or wrong. Anyway, I don't really recommend joining the Anama, you'll either end up with restrictions, or kill half an island's population... maybe more. All for what? Two priest levels and a few spells? Points taken. Zephiel's father tried to kill him because he didn't want his son to be a better king than him, which is why Zephiel faked his death. The incest, didn't know about that. I mean, I knew that if Florina married Hector, and Fiora married Eliwood, then Roy and Lilina would be cousins, but not about the whole 'Bern royal family' crisis. Sounds like a real life royal family to me...[/shot] I admit, I haven't unlocked any of this. FE6 is a hard game, and I lost Lilina just before Murdock, and had no time to A support anyone else. So, I PHAIL. Anyway, I guess this is just proof that it's rare to find a game with such originalty. (Fire Emblem was released in 1990) (Not to say Avernum isn't original. The only games that go underground are just for dwarves and crappy dungeons.) [ Wednesday, June 22, 2005 14:59: Message edited by: Shiryu ] Posts: 167 | Registered: Saturday, January 31 2004 08:00 |

It's occured to me, after playing a great deal of both Fire Emblem and Avernum lately, that there are quite a few plot similarities. Almost shockingly so. In Fire Emblem 6 (The one with Roy, Japanese only) Lycia (who is being oppressed) is fighting a war against Bern (who is oppressing, A2). Also, you have to slay King Zephiel (A1) and then fight off the Dark Dragon Idoun to beat the game. (Pyrog, almost) In Fire Emblem 7 (Fire Emblem here) You basically start a random adventure for no real purpose, only to accidentally stumble into something that leads to you saving the world [/Avernum 1] And lastly, in Fire Emblem 8 (Sacred Stones) you go around slaying random plagues of evil monsters. (A3). in order to beat this game, you have to defeat a guy who has infused himself with dark and demonic powers (Garzahd). Isn't that strange? Maybe this time one will finish the other off! The return of the stupidly overpowered Pachtar's Plate Mail! Revenge of the Slith! I'm not making any sense! I'd like to see the return of dual wielding as well. Maybe, maybe not. BUT, I think It'd be cool to have this big group brawl between the characters of the previous games, to see who's stronger. Well, Avernum would be alot easier with those numbers, like in the olden days of Exile. But the thing is, mage's are more overpowered in avernum. Just picture a team of 6 mage's, going in and Ice Lancing the slime pit, killing a possible 48 slimes per turn. that's not really how it's supposed to be done. with 6 mages, they could run up, kill a mage, and you'd still have 5 in reserve. In my opinion, mages should be limit one, because of their power. They are the easiest to get rid of, but also the most powerful. Honestly, A1 lacked a function for the right click, and if you press both at the same time, you run like you're on crack. So: Easiest outdoors experience: A1 Best plot: A2 Best combat: A3 I vote A2 though. (i have the whole trilogy, and it's the only game I haven't beaten yet >.<, I was close though, before I got a new computer and lost the data that is.) (I'm too lazy to see if there is one already, but I doubt there is.) I was thinking that, for a more community-type feeling, Spidweb should get a chatroom. Pros to this: *More interactivity. People will be able to suggest things more clearly, and information will travel faster. *More people will be around for longer periods of time. *Easy to manage the unruly ones. With IP's being shown as well, for IP bans. Cons- *Too many people could be on, and the chatroom could be a storm of messages. *Finding a server/room/bot/ops. Which won't be too hard. Note, if there already is one, I'd like to go there. If not, it's an excellent idea for more interactivity. Posts: 167 | Registered: Saturday, January 31 2004 08:00 |

Many Muslim names are taken in by the more original games. Like vizier... and... I admit, I know that and dervish. That's it. I'm a Muslim noob level 1. But they're getting to be popular class names. I recall X being a woman in the original series of exile, yet it seems he turned into a man in avernum, he's described as having long black hair, a transexual characteristic.
