Goblins and the like are generally considered beasts by all of the other 'smart' humanoids (humans, nephilim/nepharim, slithzerikai, and vahanatai). We don't know the history that caused the goblins to become basically thieves and brigands and bandits, but they are not considered anything but pests. -------------------- -Daravon Posts: 104 | Registered: Friday, March 8 2002 08:00 |

Then again, nobody every gives a goblin the benefit of the doubt - they just go straight in for the kill. It's reasonable to assume that there are a few reclusive friendly goblins. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! No, still just the three base races. The idea was proposed by a number of people but not implemented. The friendly goblins were the peach kind from Nethergate. Apparently willingness to chat died out when the species evolved into the later pink variety. —Alorael, who would like to have a moment of silent prayer for poor Gobo's people. Alas, a harsh new world had no place for their pale kind. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

There are some friendly goblins in DwtD! They sell herbs and potion ingredients to you - of course only before you invade the goblin hill. -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? Posts: 1420 | Registered: Wednesday, October 2 2002 07:00 |

Giant goblins? Aren't those called "ogres"? :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

But ogres aren't friendly. At least, not much. Occasionally they are. And G.I.F.T.O.s would scare me. A lot. And they'd try to hug you and accidentally crush you. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

There's Martha, the friendly ogre from Port Townsend in Avernum 3. Martha's a civilised ogre, not a "friendly" one. Friendly ogres brings to mind eight-legged creatures that talk in high voices and tell people that they are cute. This idea, applied to ogres, scares me. As I said. There's nothing wrong with civilised ogres, as long as they don't become too GIFTS-like. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

I think the idea of giant friendly talkng {insert random creature} is getting pretty tired, and I for one would not be unhappy to see it end. Martha is friendly. She's not effusive about it, and she's not too bright, but she doesn't even try once to eat you. For an ogre, that's positively worshipful. —Alorael, who wouldn't feel right with ogres of the GIFT variety. For one thing, they're already giant. For another, antics that are cute in a spider could be quite agonizingly painful in a huge brutish humanoid. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

There is the Deadly Goblins BoE scenario. None of them are friendly, but you could do something with the smartness of them. -------------------- ALBATROSS!!! -John Cleese !!!Long live Monty Python!!! Not a Chance! Long Live The Weather Balloons! Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, May 27 2002 07:00 |

If you can be bothered, it's possible to charm and talk to them. They don't say much, though. -------------------- Rate my scenarios! Areni Revenge To Live in Fear Deadly Goblins Ugantan Nightmare Isle of Boredom Posts: 1423 | Registered: Sunday, October 7 2001 07:00 |
