Thanks, I'll try that.

In my own defense, it was less a decision based on any dissatisfaction with the previous operating system than a pragmatic acceptance of my own financial situation and a desire for a computer that isn't 5 years old and actually runs.

I recently upgraded my home computer, and decided to switch platforms from Mac to a Vista-running PC. Is it possible to continue to use all of the Spiderweb games I've purchased, or will I need to repurchase the ones I want?

No, both areas are unaccessable. If you edit your way into X's rooms, you'll find that they are empty, so you're not missing out on anything.

I killed Bel using a Celt party on easy without any assistance from the editor. I ended up reloading after, as it sort of ruined the roleplaying experience to have killed the god of death. I'd be curious to know if there are any consequences later on.

I finally found the papers. My problem was in overlooking the alcove they're kept in. I returned them to Greta, and that was that.

It seems that only the Shaper half of this chapter is directly affected by cheating in this way.

[Edit] Typo.

Glitch in the Fens in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

While playing through chapter three, I encountered a rather odd set of events. I'd just made it to the rebel camp and gotten the available quests. Being a friendly town, it was immediately cleared on my map. However, when I left using exitzone (as has become my standard means of leaving friendly areas), I found that the area to the north had become availalbe for travel, despite the fact that I hadn't finished off Monarch yet. Being naturally curious, I explored Burwood for a while. And that's where the weirdness started.

Upon returning to the fens to finish up the Monarch quest, I found that General Crowley was convinced I'd not only attempted the mission, but botched heroically. All he'd tell me was that I was free to go north to Burwood, but only because I'd assisted Moseh earlier. Greta, on the other hand, still wanted me to take care of Monarch for her. However, she was also really upset that I hadn't returned with the Shaper Papers. As I hadn't recieved that quest at this point, I had no idea what she was talking about.

Despite all that, I went ahead and did all the Monarch-related stuff - killed him, his friends, rescued the captive shaper, etc. One thing I immediately noticed was that I didn't find the papers anywhere. I still have no idea where to find them. Anyway, when returning to collect my rewards, I had more oddness. The only reward I was able get from the shapers was for finding Miranda's scout. She had no dialogue regarding Khyrk (sic?) or Monarch. Crowley still wouldn't acknowledge that I'd actually done what he wanted, so nothing there. From the rebels, I got Greta's reward for Khyrk, and a congratulations regarding Monarch. However, she was also quite angry about the papers, which prompted me to return to Monarch's lair and turn it upside-down.

Which is where I'm at now. I'd like to find the papers and finish this damn quest, but I'd also just like to move on with the game. Any suggestions?

I believe that the fyora fang charm is also a luck-based drop. My lifecrafter currently has two in his inventory, and a third was sold in the fens.

Properly Running Blades in Blades of Exile

I just fired up Blades to indulge my nostalgia and realized that none of the custom graphics are functional. It's been a couple years (and two new computers) since I last played, and I have no recollection of how I dealt with this the last time.

I'm running Blades on an eMac with the latest version of Tiger installed. Can anybody point me towards a simple solution?

No. Absolutely not. For any reason. Ever.

Feasability aside, the format does not lend itself to the style of game play that makes these games unique and enjoyable. Really, what would be the point?

Wealthy Family Near Mertis in Avernum 4

I recall characters in the surrounding area remarking on the "oddness" of a particular family living near Mertis. I also recall visiting this location and discovering that these people were odd indeed. However, I have no memory of any resolution or explanation of this. I've recently begun a second play-through, and I'm curious: did I miss something the first time around that bears investigating, or is this just a little bit of local color?

The dichotomy you're thinking of isn't hunter vs. hunter gatherer, as both would certainly practice some degree of nomadisim; this is readily observable within modern hunter/gatherer groups such as the !Kung San of the Kalahari, the Efe of the Ituri forest, or even among prehistoric human groups in the Levant. I believe you were referring to the diference in subsistence strategies between hunter/gatherers and early agriculturalists (although this is still something of a simplification, insofar as there was no clean break from the one to the other observable in the archaeological record).

Because the subsequent development of Jeff's other series (Exernum) hasn't done much to sell people on the idea that he has anything more to say about the world he created. Asking him to continue to churn out an interminable parade of indistinguishable sequels is like buying the new Rolling Stones album. It only encourages more of the same.

As far as I could tell, the blessing only dispelled the undead's shield after they struck one of my characters. Attacking them from afar, though always a good idea, won't actually remove their resistance.

On another note, I also cleared 80% of the cave wusing spray acid and enduring armor before I remembered that help could be obtained in the Honeycomb.

Trainer skill listing in Avernum 4

The priest in Dharmon seems to have been overlooked. For a paltry 7/8k gold (my memory is a bit hazy on the exact amount), he'll raise the END of each party member by 1. While not strictly a trainer in the sense that you don't go to the purchase skills screen, it's still a straight cash for skills arrangement.

Also, the Avernum spy in the hidden celler in the giant territory will raise each party member's Gymnastics by one as a reward for killing the giant chief.
