Be aware that the alternate route requires you to overcome a number of acid-spitting plants, which are a challenge in their own right. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... Posts: 68 | Registered: Sunday, April 4 2004 08:00 |

I agree. I thought that they would certainly be tied in to some larger plot thread, or act as a prerequisite for embarking on some ridiculously difficult sidequest. The "We have been created to test the skills of adventurers" explanation strikes me as too flimsy to be credible. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... I just complteted the 6th testing station and recieved the Gauntlets of the Hammer, and I was wondering if any further tests are available. The shade made a garbled reference to the existance of an additional location, but didn't offer any specifics. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... It has only occured to my now, as I approach the end of my first run through, that I haven't seen any GIFTS anywhere in Avernum 4. I can't imagine that they were somehow omited, but I thought my expIorations have been reasonably complete. I also seem to recall someone mentioned that they were present. Could someone tell me where they are? [ Friday, January 13, 2006 20:26: Message edited by: Wotan ] -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... I've also encountered an error in that same location in Magus of Cattalon. I reached the point where the giant attack was supposed to occur. All the soldiers formed ranks at the western edge of town and waited. I immediately followed and waited for the attack to commence. However, nothing happened. No giants were present anywhere on the map, none of the townsfolk would speak with me, and I was unable to leave town. In frustration, I busted into a few houses and eventually found the wizard's corpse. Soon after, I got knocked on the head and woke up in jail. The story proceeded as usual after that. The strange part is that several characters have made references to my participation in repulsing the giant attack, despite the fact that I haven't actually fought them anywhere in the scenario at this point. After passing through the portal in the wizard's tower, my singleton was over-burdened with loot. Upon reaching the new location, I set about finding a person upon which to unload all my accumulated treasure. However, I've been unable to locate anyone willing to purchase said goods. Where's the closest item buyer? -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... Posts: 68 | Registered: Sunday, April 4 2004 08:00 |

Incidently, where is the Emerald Chestguard located? I was originally under the impression that I'd find it in the dark slith lands, but I've not encountered it yet. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... Posts: 68 | Registered: Sunday, April 4 2004 08:00 |

I've had a couple glitches that are making this scenario more difficult than it ought to be. First, I noticed that none of my characters areable to use the "Cutscene Speed" ability (and consequently, any other new abilities). Also, I can't seem to make use of any of the unique spells in their wand form. None of the shopkeepers have any goods to sell - I can sell my things just fine, but there's nothing buy. Finally, neither the quests nor special items show up in their respective windows. I'm playing on a Mac, and I just re-downloaded the most recent version of Canopy. Any ideas? -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... Posts: 68 | Registered: Sunday, April 4 2004 08:00 |

I'm having no luck trying to guess the Demon's riddle in Backwater Calls. The text reads: "What is the thing that having it, you can no longer give it away. But lacking it, for the moment at least, you can give it to those who must pay." -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... Philosophy as grist for the plot is fine, up until I, the player, have to buy into it in order to advance the story. As was stated earlier, it's extremely irritating to be forced to view things from a perspective I may not agree with or even understand. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... I found the lost city very frustrating. Having to go all the way to the southern room to find the second mirror was almost impossible - the only way I managed to get by was being lucky enough to use the mirror to catch the energy sphere in the path of a beam and kill it. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure I'd have died long before I properly positioned the beams. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... High level scenarios wanted in Blades of Avernum | |

The point is the need for a variety of diffrent difficulties. Part of the fun (for me, at least) in BoE was taking a party through a circuit of increasingly difficult scenarios and watching their skills grow. I don't relish the thought of having to build a new party for every scenario that comes out because reusing my old party would remove all the challenges. This isn't to say that low level scenarios serve no purpose. That's an obvious falsehood, as BoE boasted numerous well-done low level scenarios. It's just that in these early days of BoA, it would be nice to spread out the development a little to liven things up a bit. In shot, variety is all that's being asked for. I think that's reasonable. A question for the more design savy - how was lockpicking handled in BoE? I don't recall this particular bug being present. A lockpick was neccessary to attempt to open the door that way. -------------------- What really went on there, we only have this excerpt... Posts: 68 | Registered: Sunday, April 4 2004 08:00 |
