I'm sure spiders crawl into mouths and are reflexively swallowed, but I wouldn't want to guess how many. It seems like a tendency that would breed out of the spider population fairly quickly. —Alorael, whose most traumatic bug story would have to be the gnat that crawled down his hear, got stuck, and stayed alive. Nothing is quite like having a gnat buzzing and wriggling in your aural passage. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

quote:Actually, jerks could be those who consider themselves [insert any positive adjective]er than everyone else. I've found that there are supercilious people of all kinds, whether they think they're above intellectually or socially or spiritually. Every group has them, but don't let a few bad examples spoil you on everyone. —Alorael, who has discovered that his taste in females has only that in common: they're all female. They usually have two arms, two legs, and one head, but not always. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The maze changes, I believe. You'll have to explore all areas still open to you to find a new way out. If you really can't, use the character editor to remove your party from the town. —Alorael, who can't remember how he got through the maze himself. Maybe it's time for him to play through Nethergate again. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I found that giving characters maps, dice, or other items that can be used but that have no real effect drastically reduced the dangers of charming. The AI seems to love using items no matter how little good the items actually do. —Alorael, who first discovered this while fighting the Crystal Souls under Tinraya. He did find pressing enter repeatedly slightly annoying, but it beat having his fighter mauling his casters. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The thing I hate the most about Alorael is that he gets so angry over little things like people taking his ever-changing signature. Just because he has reserved all rights doesn't mean it shouldn't be free for anyone who wants to use it. —Alorael, who has now spoken about himself in the third person in the body of his post. A terrible line has been crossed... Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I know a few people who play Spiderweb games. In fact, the first time I heard about the games was from a friend, although I didn't really pay attention until I stumbled across them a month or two later. —Alorael, who has had little luck convincing friends to even try Spiderweb games, let alone enjoy them. He's managed to create a few addicts, but most people can't get past the first 2D, low resolution sprites. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Nobody is perfectly normal. We're all very strange in our own ways. The trick is finding the dominant forms of aberrance, no matter how minor and unremarkable they may be, and attaching an official label to them. —Alorael, who has seen some people have their lives greatly improved by medication for blanket diagnoses. The problem isn't the disorders themselves but the idea that everyoen must have some disorder if they're willing to pay enough to find it. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Slithzerikai and vahnatai are, to the best of my knowledge, words straight out of Jeff's imagination. The word 'nephilim' comes from the Bible, but the Exile/Avernum kitty nephilim are so different that I think the shared term was either a subconscious word recall or a coincidence. —Alorael, who can't think of any other interesting names from Spiderweb games other than the endless ranks of creations from Geneforge. Most of them are either fabricated names or names with clear etymology. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

How do you define sport? Some people say that car racing is a sport, and it clearly involves less physical activity on the part of the participants. Others claim chess is a sport, although all the exertion is mental. quote:According to that, cheerleading is a sport. It is a source of diversion, a physical activity presumably engaged in for pleasure, and certain people seem to consider it sexual play. —Alorael, who doesn't particularly care if cheerleading is a sport or not. It's still a ridiculous practice that makes curling and golf look like sane ways to pass time. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A quote from the description of the General forum: "A general discussion forum for our company and games." That's not very true, but we try to maintain a facade of pertinence. More importantly, no answers were forthcoming and far too much awfulness was appearing. I don't like awful very much, personally, so I decided to put the topic out of its misery. —Alorael, who would like to discourage the infliction of further horrors. He'd also like to discourage the revival of locked topics. Both are bad things. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I haven't noticed any recent mass emigration of old members, nor has there been an especially noteworthy influx of newbies. I believe Jeff said somewhere that Spiderweb incorporated sometime in May or June, but I could be making that up. It's hard to say when Spiderweb really began, though, because I'm sure Jeff began programming E1 months before he decided to make a company to sell the thing. —Alorael, who suspects that the company only appeared after Jeff realized that he could make money off of his games and that a company adds a touch of legitimacy to the matter. Some paladin abilities will be possible to create through the use of scripts and special equipment, but Avernum and D&D are too dissimilar to have real class counterparts. If you want a halfling, supply the graphics with your scenario, inform the player that he or she is playing with at least one halfling, and have the scenario make reference to those PC halflings. —Alorael, who finds that far less unlikely than TM's rakshasa parties. Or his whole set of rakshasa theories, for that matter. They have even less basis than vahnatai creationism, and that's saying something. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

This topic is filled with horrors, and it seems that nobody has any answers to add. I'm not bored very often. I'm going for number 4000 as well, and I think Arancaytar is too. The chances of the account going to a genuine newbie are slim. —Alorael, who doesn't think he'll actually get it. But it wouldn't be right to give some random newcomer all the bragging rights of a nice, round account number, would it? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It's also quite possible to believe that the Big Bang theory is plausible and believe in God at the same time. The theory doesn't work if you believe that the Bible is literally true, but many people fit in comfortably between atheism and literalism. —Alorael, who is one of those people. If God exists, He made the universe somehow. The Big Bang is no more far-fetched than performative power, and it's much flashier. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |
